Ethernet working a lot worse than wifi

Hi all!
I've just built a relatively new pc and i've had nothing but problems with my network!
My wireless wifi works perfectly fine while my ethernet loses it every single time I use it.
The reason this is a problem for me is although my wifi works fine, its very inconsistent with big spikes when I'm trying to play games. Ethernet used to work until it didnt and its just gotten to the point where i dont know what else to do.
For example, Download speeds with ethernet are around 1mbps to 125kbs (i think those are the right units). While wifi speeds are around 40mbps. While using ethernet, my game is very patchy, same as using wifi. To the point where sometimes it is unplayable.
I don't know much but my specs are:
- rtx 4080 msi gaming x trio
- ryzen 7 7800x3d
- Gigabyte b650 elite ax motherboard (which i'm using for both wifi and ethernet)
The games i play are mostly cs and valorant, in which both have issues
So far i have tried:
- a full windows reinstall
- messing around with adapter settings
- restarting and updating router and firmware
so any help is really appreciated! and feel free to ask any questions, ill try and answer as best as i can!

Get a new cable and make sure it’s the fastest CAT 8. If that doesn’t work then it’s possibly damaged Ethernet port on the motherboard

Cat5 is fine here. Unless you're above like 10g at longer runs cat8 is snake oil. Don't waste your money.

I’ve tried a cat8 cable already but none made use, a broken port makes sense so maybe looking at a new motherboard would fix it? Or just trying to get warranty?

It’s my best guess that it’s the motherboards Ethernet port, so you could try a new motherboard. Before you get a new motherboard, make sure you troubleshoot the best you can and do online research as well.

CAT8 is often scam cables that are worse than genuine Cat6/6A cables.
This is because consumer standards stopped as 10GBase-T, reputable companies don't bother making Cat7/Cat8 because the 25gb/40gb twisted pair ethernet standards never left lab testing.

Are you using windows' default driver, or the one from you Gigabyte board?
In case you haven't I'd install chipset and network driver directly from your motherboard page rather than whatever windows finds - just in case (tbh mostly it should just work, but you never know).
Alternatively you could try a bios update if the above doesn't work.

Try a different cable, Cat5E, 6, or 6A from a reputable brand. No Cat7/Cat8, no flat cables.
If that does not help try a cheap USB NIC. A bad port on your motherboard is possible.

have you tried replacing the cable
quite possible its damaged and so having a lot of packet loss and/or negotiating a really low speed

Yes I have tried multiple different cables but none made any difference.

Have you got the drivers installed?

new cable and a different port on the router?
make sure the router settings prioritize your pc
