(Bimonthly) Map of locations in of need bison and beavers populations.

Does bison and beaver urine really make that big of a difference?
doubletake_faye@reddit
Beaver dams make a big difference.
MrD3a7h@reddit
What about bison dams?
Alarming_Eagle_8832@reddit
They wallow and make pits that catch an store rainfall :D

Yes and yes, beaver dams, deep root prairie ecosystems, and forests do a lot of work in retaining water.
I remember when a forest next door got clear cut my well dropped a good deal and never got back up as high as it usually did.

My YouTube algorithm right now is basically entirely beaver reintroductions and ecological restorations.
Would recommend.
You watch a few videos and you realise there is a few species which together can really reverse the damage.
My favourite is beaver though because they just make their own habitat, fix the water and so many species piggyback off them.
The bison are cool because they break up hard ground and poop everywhere but also they graze in a way where they don’t just eat EVERYTHING to the ground like the sheep and cattle we love so much.
I forgot about prairie dogs, I think they are one of the piggybackers who also help do groundwork and improving soil conditions.
Think they might like bison smashing up the hard ground I can’t remember but I know what I am doing for the next hour lmao.
Honestly it’s quite relieving watching them videos because the animals build it and then they all return. The animals, the water. Just life you know :D
Love it.

My area is listed as a d2 level drought but it just got done raining quite a lot over the last few days and everything is still soggy🧐
Worshipme988@reddit
That’s not how that works
No_Possible_7108@reddit
Thanks for the informative comment. You might notice the single other reply informed me how it works over 10 hours ago

The map might not include that data, but also don't be too influenced by anecdotal data: just because you had one good rain doesn't mean you can't also be in the net negative vs normal.

Sounds like my bank account
No_Possible_7108@reddit
That makes sense, I was thinking in terms of it being a single "snapshot" of the most recently available data6

The cattle folks are in trouble here. I feel for them.

Out west we had crazy high temps in March that melted our snow pack, but then we got more snow. Some places are at half the average snowpack for this time of year, others are over 100%. The crazy weather makes it really difficult to understand how the summer is going to go. From the map, we have no drought but it’s hard to believe that this will last with a high chance of El Niño. This summer feels ominous.

My area is the only part of the nation without drought. Unfortunately for some, we’re at 2x moisture this year. The rivers are swollen and dams are failing. We are on high ground but damage is observed while driving locally.

D4 here but it has rained some this week and getting better. calling for rain tonight and almost all day tomorrow. maybe that will get the fires under control.
