Does remote desktop work for university?

Next year i am going to study architecture. Which i need a new laptop for as my current laptop isnt strong enough and its old. But with all the requirements for a new one such as a i9 and a rtx 3070 the laptop will be quite expensive like 3k+. Which i find quite expensive to take to university everyday. So i started looking into remote desktop, but im hearing quite mixed things about it. I will be mostly using it for cad and revit modeling with a bit of twinmotion. the notes will then be taken on the laptop itself. Is this a usable option for university?

Maybe. I do a lot of work using remote desktop.
It is incredibly latency sensitive, and trying to do CAD or PCB design over a pretty low-latency link (wired both ends, <8ms RTT end-to-end across the Internet) can be frustrating. Add in variable latency if you haven't got an ISP that has good peering with JANET or are on WiFi and things get worse.
Your uni may have systems with suitable specs that you can use on campus.

just fyi those requirements are several years old already, so make sure you're looking at modern equivalents
remote desktop works fine, it's been around forever, there is some latency though

potentially but from my understanding of remote desktop you would have to set a vpn of your home network on the laptop in order to connect, and it can be quite laggy and can disconnect you intermittently
