Help with pc build

Hi all,
I understand this question may be bothersome to answer but any help is appreciated greatly.
I built my pc in 2020, it was my first build and it has served me well but I’m now looking to upgrade finally. I am running a 1660 super, Ryzen 5 3600 on a MSI B450 gaming plus max motherboard.
From the research I have done I am thinking of upgrading to a 5060 Ti 16gb for the GPU. But I’m unsure what CPU and motherboard to upgrade to to best suit this. I’ve seen people recommend the Ryzen 5 9600X for CPU but is this a good choice?
To preface, I am looking for the best affordable choice not necessarily the BEST choice if it’s going to be super expensive.
In short, with this GPU choice what CPU and motherboard would you recommend for an affordable build? Any other advice or recommendations is greatly appreciated

If you want to be affordable I would update your motherboard BIOS, replace the 3600 with any of 5600/5600X/5600XT/5700X/5800X/5800XT, and for GPU I'd probably take a 9060 XT 16GB.
This avoids having to buy a new motherboard and RAM, which is going to be quite expensive.

Thanks for the reply!
Looking at a few benchmark sites, the 9060 XT 16gb seems to perform around an average of 30 frames poorer than the 5060. For a £100 more I’d be willing to upgrade for the greater frame count.
Would the rest of the advice work with the 5060? If not do you have any recommendations

Not sure what you looked at, maybe you are looking at a specific game? On average the 5060 Ti 16GB is only about 5-10% faster in most testing. See here and here.
But yes the 5060 Ti 16GB should also work fine with just a CPU upgrade. You will lose a little bit of performance because your motherboard is a bit older and only supports PCIe gen3. The 5060 Ti is a bit worse than the 9060 XT in handling older PCIe generations, so it loses a little of its advantage there.

I Looked at some benchmark sites online they directly compared the two across multiple games and it tended to be around a 20-30fps difference according to the websites, not always the case but more often than not.
Could you recommend a motherboard I could take a look at to not bottle cap my gpu and cpu?
TheDreadfulSagittary@reddit
I can't speak for the sites you looked at, the two videos are linked are from highly regarded hardware reviewers.
You can replace the motherboard, but I wouldn't say it is worth it if you are sticking to Ryzen 5000 and DDR4. I'd only buy a new motherboard if going full out with Ryzen 7000/9000 and DDR5, but that's much more expensive. For the budget upgrade I'd stick with what you have, the difference from PCIe gen3 is minimal.

Oh ok so you’d recommend I get the 5070, a 5000 series CPU and keep the same motherboard that i have now? And this would be better for performance cost ratio?
Is there any specific cpu you’d recommend for this set up?
TheDreadfulSagittary@reddit
Basically yes. I mean the performance penalty a 5060 Ti 16GB has when running on a PCIe gen3 motherboard is minimal, but if you are saying you are wanting/willing to buy a replacement motherboard, then I would just spend that money on a 5070 instead, that will gain you much more performance than a new motherboard will. Also the 5070 does not have that same PCIe gen3 penalty, or at least not as much, because it has twice the amount of connections a 5060 Ti does. The difference a new gen of PCIe makes is that doubles the speed of connections, but that's the same as having double as many connections.
For CPU, looking at the prices in the UK right now 3 models make sense, 5600XT (139), 5700X (175) and 5800XT (209). Each gives roughly the same level experience, they are each just 1-3% faster each step up on average.

Thanks a bunch man, you have been super helpful 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Yeah thats probably the best solution

Oh yeah a Ryzen 5 9600x is a great option to pair with a 5060ti leaving u some extra CPU power for a future GPU upgrade. And if u get a decent motherboard and if rumors are true then u will have some very nice upgrade options for ur COU in the future.
Now if u are looking for affordable maybe look at the 7600x as yhe price changes from time to time and its pretty similar to the 9600x overall.

I’m from the UK and I’m looking to spend around £100 for the motherboard ideally but if there are cheaper options I’ll hear them
No_Spare1827@reddit
Well £100 is tough as u become very limited to low end motherboards with waek VRMs, most will be fine for a 7600x or 9600x but anything past those probably not.
If u go with a 9600x most of the cheaper motherboards out there will need a bios update I order to work, if u get a 7600x this isnt nessisary.
So of the ones I knew ow are under £100 id say maybe look at the ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 not the greatest but has a decent VRM and is a pretty solid value. Or if u want something with some upgradability Id check out the MSI B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI with a strong VRM and overall good feature set. Though if u could go to £130 ish u can get some really nice motherboards with great VRMs and a ton of great features

Could you recommend some £130\~ motherboards in that case? And I saw people recommend the B650M motherboard as well, is this a good option or will this suffer from the issues you stated?
