What handgun is this? Looks like an HK

The person in this photo is Velupillai Prabhakaran who was the founder and main leader of the LTTE up until his death in 2009 during a last stand against the Sri Lankan military, therefore this photo was before that year
Something I find super strange is this photo is that his handgun and holster look incredibly modern (for one it has an optic, can anyone ID it or give a guess on who was making compact red dots for pistols back then?, the polymer/kydex holster that looks like it’s set up for a laser/flashlight attachment, and the extended magazine)

Weird way to carry a pistol for cross draw.

This guy was pretty fat so if he did have a conventional pistol draw set up it means his belt would have to be lower down to his waist which probably would have made him self conscious or made his people view him as unfit
But I’ve also seen other LTTE guys with crossdraws so maybe that’s just how they were trained to carry pistols?

I'm not sure the beer gut is hidden very well by the belt halfway up to his armpits but he gets points for trying

The trijicon rmr came out in 2009. Maybe he had a custom cut slide for it?

Yea, its a full size USP. Could be the .45 model by the size of the mag baseplate but hard to tell with the pixels.
