Yep, and Picard's desk in his quarters had a regular rolling office chair.
Cliomancer@reddit
If the fire alarm ever went off you'd be glad your door had a mechanical handle instead of falliable motion sensors.
PhysicsEagle@reddit
The nice thing about a manual door is if you lose power you can still open it
shoopstoop25@reddit
Gotta have something to hang a sock on ayyyy
ncc74656m@reddit
It's Wesley. No you don't.

that episode where the whole crew got hypnotised by that game you wear like glasses, they heavily implied he slept with that other character his age who was only there for the 1 episode
https://www.reddit.com/r/startrek/comments/rrk99/i_just_realized_this_for_the_first_time/
and theres a good chance they actually slept together irl too, Wil said at a convention "uncle willy wrecked her" then mouther to lavarr burton "i actually slept with her" https://youtu.be/R2V4hd0VNpA?si=sl9eMnVsRLvUUdWs&t=480

Ashley Judd. Way more famous that Wheaton. Quite the smoke show.
Optimaximal@reddit
Lefler was Judd's first acting role - at the time Wheaton was a superstar compared to her (despite her family connections).
She obviously pivoted to movies whilst Whil's career flatlined...

hes putting on a show but thats funny

OMGGGGGG, haha, thanks for sharing.

I doubt doorknobs will change much in the next few hundred years.

In one of the books about making TOS, Roddenberry talks about how they bought every “futuristic” salt/pepper shaker set they could find, but none of them read as salt and pepper shakers on screen, because they just didn’t look like salt and pepper shakers. So they became Bones’ medical tools.
JoeyJoeJoeJrShab@reddit
There was an early episode of TNG where Worf encountered an old-style door (or airlock?), and he was very confused by the fact that it didn't open automatically. That implies his dorm room didn't have such a door knob.
IkouyDaBolt@reddit
Worf always had issues with doors.
punkwalrus@reddit
Plus schools are cheap. There's a good chance that this is cheaper in Starfleet Academy than students fucking with automatic doors all the time.
Electronic-Country63@reddit
The door lock and handle on our front door is the original from 200 years ago so probably not!
Aggravating-Cat-2183@reddit
Take a closer look at that 200 year old doorknob and then go to Home Depot and tell us again that doorknobs haven’t changed lol
NataniButOtherWay@reddit
I like the brief moment in Samaritan Snare where Wesley briefly stares at a doorknob dumbfounded until someone passes through while Picard shakes his head. Just a funny background shot.
Hephaestus16@reddit
Its the final test for entering the academy, so many have aced astrometrics, could understand every time of temporal paradox and even write a letter to the prophets in the all the right tenses but fell at the dreaded door test.
shatteredoctopus@reddit
I remember watching this in its first run, and I found the regular door handle so jarring, after always associating the "woosh" and sliding doors with trek! Also Calgary got a shoutout!
27803@reddit
I think the basic door will still be the same 200 years from now
torchmaipp@reddit
Smart doors, smart locks, and holographic waifu
TreeHedger@reddit
They're cadets, not officers. No luxuries.
JoeyJoeJoeJrShab@reddit
What do you mean luxuries? This is a historic building with original fixtures. That costs extra! (Or it would if money was a thing)
handsomeape95@reddit
Even in the 24th century, they're still playing the doorknob fart game at the academy.
Odd_Secret9132@reddit
Admittedly, putting automatic pocket doors everywhere is cool looking, but kinda dumb. Like it’s over complicating things for no reason.
TOS onwards there isn’t even a handle to open them manually. How many episodes have someone prying the doors open because there’s no power? At least the NX class doors had that.
balthazar_edison@reddit
Oh no. This is like when people complained about the spot dried glass chamber this having a 21st century style door as well on disco.
BigMrTea@reddit
I want technology where technology enhances its functionality. It's not ahigh traffic area where automatic opening is necessary. It's not high security where access tech is needed. It's a dorm room door. Manual works. Less tech to maintain or fair under adverse conditions.
Diver-1Doc@reddit
How quaint indeed.

Hello, computer!
ilDuceVita@reddit
Just use the keyboard
chitzk0i@reddit
Dorms are still ancient and barely maintained in the future.
stathis0@reddit
They did add a little sound effect to imply there was something electronic going on.
EmPalsPwrgasm@reddit
Great idea for pretending you have smart home features in your disgusting little studio apartment. Just add fancy Sci-fi sounds whenever you open the fridge, or the only door you have that leads to the shitter.

Shh!
uroborous01@reddit
If it aint broke, don’t fix it?
ThePrisonSoap@reddit
Wasn't there an episode with a joke about how people in the future don't understand how regular doors work
Outrageous-Pause6317@reddit
Worf was the guy who didn’t understand doors. I can’t recall the episode.
Tabsels@reddit
That’s mice
Cool-Word2409@reddit
If it ain't broke....

And not a neon light in sight.
