we're all just plain stupid sheep I'm not going to lie
this is talking about an increase in salary, their salary is already high
why not give the workers the much deserved 3% increase instead of enriching yourself unnecessarily to feel more "powerful" and "mighty" or to spend it on something absolutely stupid and without real value or enrichment for anyone

Because the CEOs do all the work. If the CEO didn't buy the already successful company, then how would all the peasants survive? /s
Suspicious_Place1270@reddit
nobody knows, really
Likes_You_Prone@reddit
The CEOs know. They know everything
Suspicious_Place1270@reddit
ah yeah, right, without them the company would not run, sorry i forgot
leviathan235@reddit
Because most workers have no bargaining power vs their employers. Employers don’t raise pay unless forced to, like when a valued worker threatens to leave. CEOs technically are workers too, but they actually have serious bargaining power vs capital, so they can negotiate high pay.
CEOs have incentives heavily aligned with capital, so they will screw over workers as much as possible to enrich the company.
big_cock_lach@reddit
CEOs aren’t aligned with capital, they are capital. Most CEOs are bond members and are typically one of the largest individual shareholders. Many are the largest shareholder and/or the chairman of the board. Most non-CEO executives are also major investors who sit on the board too. It’s usually the senior management that are mainly workers who have their incentives aligned with capital. Executive management are typically the main source of capital.

to enrich the company AND themselves*

Ahh yes this is perfect for my bias! I love passing off extreme outcomes compared with median ones and calling it reporting. No doubt CEO pay is high but maybe it should be compared to their workers not all workers so you can eliminate noise.
kolitics@reddit
Yes, how dare these plebs just use readily available data and not go into granular detail of how each CEO’s pay compares to the workers of their individual company? All to push their narrative that CEOs make more than workers.
Blackout38@reddit
It’s not readily available data, it’s an assumption using GDP data relative to the top 1500 CEOs who presumably would be leading successful companies in wealthy nations none of which is adjusted against the gdp data or investigation further. If you think that’s granular, bully for you.
kolitics@reddit
Yes, bully for these plebs who think they can just compare a CEO to some rice farmer. Do they not realize how much the price of maintaining a yatch has risen?
Blackout38@reddit
Yeah they certainly love cherry picking facts and fitting them to their narratives. That’s a good thing too because we can keep them blinded and obedient to narrative.

Between AI overlords repeating we are all getting unemployed, the absurd state to find a job in developed countries and the underemployment situation + the rich getting richer while destroying the very capitalism they profit from (like private equity companies) + mass surveillance state...
Guys, I tend to think this is not even sustainable.

Gig economy for all

What i find so odd is that CEO's are paid the big bucks because they are both highly responsible and accountable (allegedly). Yet this concept is completely reversed in politics (in the UK at least), where MPs earn about £80k + allowances. There are several thousand civil servants who earn more than that... and they work for the MPs
Maybe if we paid politicians the big bucks then they could prioritise shareholder value for the nation /s
ScaryShadowx@reddit
Expecting politicians to act in the interest of their constituents because it's the "right thing to do" completely ignores human behavior. Politicians should be paid extremely well, it's crazy that the leaders of major countries often earn what a middle manager in a major city earns. People are then shocked that they are always on the lookout for their next career move which will double or triple their pay when they leave office and use their office to make those connections and win favor.
Pay politicians the same rate as these big corporations and they will want to hold on to these jobs. Singapore for example pays their ministers and PM extremely high wages (in the millions), and they are driven to stay in the role and deliver rather than quickly move on to more lucrative positions.
PestySamurai@reddit
Accountable? Gotta be several upper managers fired and more than a few deaths or (god forbid) lower profits for a CEO to be fired.
Suspicious_Place1270@reddit
and thats it, they really only get fired and get to keep their bonuses...
Almechik@reddit
And then they just become CEO of a different company because they have contacts
