A passenger captured this photo as an Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras Embraer E195-E2 departing São Paulo–Congonhas Airport came alarmingly close to a GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes Boeing 737-800 that had gone around during landing.

I dont mind to pay more to fly to Guarulhos instead Congonhas when Im traveling.
gouveia00@reddit
CGH was fine since I lived right near it. Nowadays GRU is the only option. Dad was a pilot and after being on a cockpit landing on both CGH and SDU, I pay extra just to never land there.
MetroBR@reddit
for me GRU tickets are usually cheaper as it takes 3 business days to get into town
BrodyJ19@reddit
Yall would hate to see parallel T/Os and landings
747ER@reddit
On the same runway, at the same time?
BrodyJ19@reddit
Shall I define parallel?
AaronBaddows@reddit
yes maybe you would understand that this was no parallel landing/to
megalopoutsa@reddit
Yes please explain cause I'm dying to hear why planes operating on say JFK 31L and 31R at the same time would be a problem.
747ER@reddit
Why bother? Parallel ops are completely unrelated to what is being shown in this post, and have a completely different risk profile. This is like seeing a picture of a car driving on a footpath and saying “you all would hate to see highways”. It’s a different kind of flying, altogether.
All-Your-Base@reddit

Let's ask a dictionary shall we: parallel | ˈperəˌlel | adjective (of lines, planes, surfaces, or objects) side by side and having the same distance continuously between them.

Why aren't they speaking English? I thought that's the language of aviation. How is someone flying in from a different nation supposed to hear if there's an issue.
Imagine if the LaGuardia incident happened because someone was told to stop or go-around in a non-English language and they didn't understand it.
Hot_Net_4845@reddit
Two Brazilian airlines in Brazil. It's fine for ATC and the pilots to speak Portuguese to each other. If it was a foreign airline, ATC at the pilots would need to speak English.
TexasBrett@reddit
I’m not advocating for only speaking English, but we have seen instances where local pilots and ATC speaking the local language has resulted in the loss of situational awareness by foreign pilots.
AaronBaddows@reddit
ATC speaks english with who speaks english with them. Even Brazilian Gol pilots can start speaking english and the atc will respond in english to them.
Plokeer_@reddit
CGH does not take international flights at the moment.
MetroBR@reddit
do you think Air France pilots communicate in english with french ATC? why would Brazilian pilots in Brazil communicating with a Brazilian ATC operator (which, if I'm not mistaken, foreigners are not allowed to become air traffic controllers in Brazil) speak in anything other than portuguese?
Plokeer_@reddit
CGH does not take international flights at the moment.
MetroBR@reddit
why are we using the airlines full names lol

Without opening the pic thought to where is Indigo flying in Europe without winglet.
Number of A320 planes it has makes you think like this..

DaVinkey320@reddit
And this should be an A320neo engine on a 787 wing?
TheFl4me@reddit
Its the best of both worlds. Neo engine on 787-esque wing.
Its why the E2-190 is like a glider with rocket boosters.
Fun fact: Thrust-to-Weight Ratio at sea level is the highest of any current day civilian airliner. Same as Concorde had but with afterburner.
N205FR@reddit
Actually, yes! It indeed is a PW1000 variant on a raked-wingtip(aka 787-like) wing.
railker@reddit
No? That's an E195 engine on an E195 wing.
787 has 5 segments of leading edge slat outboard of the engine. E195-E2 has 4
77_Gear@reddit
It’s the E-2. It has the PW1900G and it doesn’t have winglets unlike the E-1 which does makes it look like a 787

São Paolo-Congonhas is…no offence to anyone who lives or work there, but with all the accidents & incidents and the way that airport is laid-out, I’m actually surprised there hasn’t been more. I don’t speak Portuguese, so I can’t be certain about the timing & instructions. So GOL is in the missed approach, which the controller has to clear them for or the pilot made the decision a few miles back for them to be cruising at that altitude in the video. The article, when translated, said GOL was actually waiting for the landing clearance but ATC had gave Azul the T/O clearance. Here’s the thing, the timing is tight, but this kind of operation happens a lot & it’s not illegal nor improper, as long as ATC & both pilots are aware of the plan.
I have ran tight operations like this— I already cued the departing aircraft to “lineup on runway 17R, be ready to go”. Alternatively, I have also asked ahead of time “[aircraft ident], are you able an immediate?” Ninety percent of the time, they respond in the affirmative. Both those statements basically imply ‘I need you to move ASAP, no dilly-dallying’. Once that’s been determined & setup, I will clear them for the immediate take-off or “no delay, clear for take-off…” Then I call up the arriving aircraft to say “expect your clearance on very short final, traffic is an Embraer departing 17R from the threshold.” In essence, I have given the “ok” for both things to happen, confident that there is no conflict. This lets both pilots know that I’m aware they are both there & I hadn’t forgotten either & there is probably some urgency to my transmissions, so they get it.
Before anyone comes at me— it is permitted to have two aircraft on the active runway as long as it is clear there is no conflict. By this, I mean the departing aircraft is in the last 1/2 to 1/3 of the runway, nearing or past V1 & just about rotate when the arriving aircraft has now touched down. So technically, I have two aircraft on the same runway, but laterally (& speed-wise) separated. If, for whatever reason, the departing aircraft has passed V1 & the arriving aircraft has to pull-up, the one trailing will be given a 30° turn out (but I can’t say “turn right 30°” as a tower controller, but I can say “turn right heading 200 now”. Different countries may have different ways of handling this, but São Paolo is extremely busy & their Air Transportation ministry has them on a limit to the number of departures they can have in an hour. So I would think tight operations are a dime a dozen there.

„GOL is in the missed approach, which the controller has to clear them for“
Euhm…no?
The missed approach segment is a fundamental part of any instrument approach. By clearing an aircraft for an approach, the published missed approach, in its totality, is part of that clearance.
As the PIC, I can choose to go around at any point during an approach and absolutely do not require an extra clearance to do so.
If this causes a conflict with other traffic, then it is the controller’s responsibility under IFR to provide adequate separation through alternate means.

Pretty much every semi dodgy moment I've had on a plane (passenger) has happened at Sao Paulo. Interesting to hear it has a reputation for it
