They should have a long pike instead and move in a tight formation to make sure they can check all of the path they're clearing.

Theodore Roosevelt would not approve!
I’m a M-1903 enthusiast, so I immediately thought of his disdain for the early “rod bayonet”. His exact words were “as poor an invention as I ever saw”
Monke_with_a_Stick@reddit
literally how is this effective?

Hmm... I read the comments, and it seems most people haven't been to the military. The basic way to find landmines is to poke the ground with a knife or a stick.
GrandHetman@reddit
More like an old school way of doing it, plus you'd do it while prone and using careful pokes, this seems too "brutal" to work

This rifle spike has been in use for 70 years. In Korea, there is a gray zone centered on the DMZ that is 350 km long and 40 km wide with ambiguous ownership, through which south and north troops frequently cross. Naturally, both sides have planted a massive number of landmines in this area.
People will wonder why they don't use modern things like metal detectors.
The biggest reason is that landmines are made of wood and plastic, making detection impossible. And here, if you dig the ground, you can easily find traces of the Korean War. so, metal debris is so common in the ground that you will likely hear a detector buzz sound every 10 meters.

Long pointy stick boop places to find traps
jdrawr@reddit
I'd assume it's used as aProbe like knives are for anti mining. For anti booby traps maybe it activates trip wires or hits them first setting them off at a safer distance?
RentAscout@reddit
Still stupid. Like a emotional combat support stick will help. Probably cost the taxpayers an extra arm and leg.
DookieShoez@reddit
Lol, arm and a leg

This isn't official issued. It's just tapping the tent stakes and fixing them to the muzzle with a butterfly bolt.
Antonw194200@reddit
It looks so incredibly dumb when they do photoshoots and people "scan" their surroundings with the weapon up in a ready firing position. Like you could keep that up for more than 5 minutes.
AyeBraine@reddit
It's a photo session. Yeah they're bunched up in dramatic poses. It's because they have to fit in the photograph.

I was just thinking of along these lines.
When dude peaks over the tiny step of a rock like its a grand opening he should make sure is clear.
Peripheral vision would cover that from feet away.
So performative.

So, when your country's military films, do they look directly at the camera and offer opinions like in the drama "The Office"?
Antonw194200@reddit
Someone should have told the director "this is dumb, this is how computer game characters move, not real soldiers". I suspect this was choreographed by someone outside of the military and these guys are just following directions.
floralvas@reddit
Welcome back spike bayonet!
pedest@reddit
Reinventing the bayonet was not on my modern warfare bingo card
ShiftyLookinCow7@reddit
Sounds like a really dumb Israeli tier gimmick product that American consumers will overpay for when they hit the surplus/clone market
DookieShoez@reddit
Oooooookay.
Think these guys are korean but ok
SmthnInconspicuous18@reddit
Oh cool! Now they can "safely" detonate a mine 2.5 feet away rather than by being right on top of it! What a fantastic idea! I hope whoever designed it get an award! Or better yet, the opportunity to demonstrate the Tactical Spike bomb removal first hand!
tlawrey20@reddit
What a stupid idea lmao

poke poke

couldn’t carrying aiming like the retractable baton be better than a long stick on your rifle
Limp-Development7222@reddit
Make the stick sharp and you got a poker
