Part 61 School in DFW Area

Hello everyone, I’ve been thinking about getting started in my life and trying to jump into a career as a pilot down the road. As of now I must start from the beginning. I am looking to do a Part 61 school.
I’ve checked out some schools in Denton and McKinney, and so far Above it All Aviation has caught my eye. I am scheduled to do a discovery flight pretty soon. I did a tour recently and it’s a pretty small looking school which I don’t mind and they like to train in Piper Warriors which costs about $205 + $95 instructor/hr if I recall correctly.
Basically, I want to know if anyone has any thoughts and opinions about Above it All Aviation and if I should consider anywhere else? Is that rate a lot for training?
Also what are some questions I could ask during my discovery flight to know more about the school?
I’m a little nervous to make a commitment to a school haha.
Thanks! :)

u/TXAggieMike is our local DFW CFI. I think the club he uses is quite a bit cheaper, but I don't remember what field he's on now. He can get you an excellent personalized training

The C172N’s are $80 dry.

I did reach out to him, waiting on a response. I think part of it too is that I live a bit too far away from FW for my liking. Should’ve rephrased to Dallas Area lol.

Ping me again by text message and we can talk on Friday.
Flight instruction happens via the https://www.fortworthflyingclub.org and their Cessnas. The rates will be significantly less expensive, saving you money.
And you can continue to use the aircraft for fun and adventure once your private pilot certificate is earned.

Understood! DFW is a massive area....

I’d recommend Airplanes and Attitude out of KTKI. For a C172, it’s $195/hr + $75 instructor/hr. Have had a great experience with them and their instructors. Their website has a lot of info if you’re interested. One thing you should know is that they want you to pass the Knowledge Written Exam before you start flight training. So make sure to get that done.

There are some individuals who do instruction more on the east side of town. What airport are you the closest to?

Where I live I am very close to the Mckinney National Airport (I’m in the Allen area)
I do drive to denton a lot since I have college friends up there so a drive to Denton is kinda like nothing to me.

If you don't mind a waitlist and monthly fee, you can train for about $80/hour cheaper at Texins Flying Club at McKinney. Happy to send more info if you'd like.

Sure thing! As of lately, I am currently trying to get myself as organized as I can life-wise and I’ve built a mental momentum where I want to start as soon as I possibly can. However, I’d love to get to know more info about it! Keeping my options open :)

That's a bit high for primary training. Try some schools at Meacham such as Delta Qualiflight.

I may check them out. Ft Worth is a little further than I’m comfortable with driving. I live in Collin County and so Denton is usually about my limit distance wise.

It might be worth while to get a crash pad apartment with some other students while you're in school.
