Welp it happed today. My first accident(their fault)

Location DMV area. As I was coming off the 270 spur onto 495 east(I’ll explain if you don’t know the area. In bumper to bumper traffic a Nissan Altima collided with my drivers side wheel well.
So here is the details. Coming off the 270 spur heading on 495 east you are fed into the 5th lane of 495 east. There are signs 2000 feet in advance this lane will end and merge with lane 4 of 495 east(the far left lane).
As soon as I had the option to change lanes into the 4th lane and get out of the lane that would end I did. The Nissan Altima in front of me decided to jump from the 4th far left lane, back into the lane that will end in order to get ahead. No worries. Well the lanes are coming to the merge point and I am going with the flow of traffic, I let 3 cars(or they jumped in front of me) from the ending lane into my lane… well that wasn’t enough for Amir(actual name)
He decided he was NOT gonna get stuck behind the slow truck and even though I was on the ass of the car in front of me I justtt let in, he wanted to squeeze into a space that didn’t exist. Eventually he is a foot from my left wheel well and also on the shoulder. I lay on the horn justttttt incase he didn’t see my rig even though he had been inching in for atleast 20 seconds expecting me to slam on the brakes. Well let’s just say I didn’t….
Eventually while I maintained my lane while he was still trying to merge into my lane from the shoulder, he collided with my truck.
Pulled over, called safety. Exchanged insurance information. Only thing I said to him was “brake is on the left buddy” he started to get uppity saying I ran him off the road and blah blah. I just pointed up at my dash cam and his face went pale…
I gave him my phone number and he gave me his before we parted ways.
Security and safety team reviewed the footage and found no fault for me. 10 mins later I get a call from Amir saying “hey so this is my dad’s car and I just wanted to see if there was no dmg to your truck if we can just avoid insurance” I’m like “buddy that’s not up to me, good luck”
Sorry for the long post. This is the first time I’ve been in an accident and I needed to vent/decompartmentalize

If Amir's dad gets a lawyer it will become your fault pretty fast. Not avoiding an accident when all you needed to do was back off a bit makes you at fault, especially if you knew that and purposely hit him.
Your security team probably hasn't seen a court room. If they are lucky Amir will get a small 50k settlement to go away. If Amir is traumatized and scared to drive around big mean trucks the price keeps going up.
Never post your crashes on social media, ever, lawyers can and do get court orders for all your posts like this one. Then admitting you didn't back off because you didn't feel like it. A lawyer could argue you purposely hit him to teach him a lesson. It would then become assault.
I get cut off all the time 6 cars 10 cars I don't care. I always back off 27 years I've had a CDL and no crashes other then being rear ended when I was stopped.

Not for CDL drivers we fall under different laws created by multiple court cases.
It basically comes down to could the wreck be avoided by the professionals aka CDL license holder. If the answer is yes which OP admits then it is the fault of the guy with the 80k to 140k pound truck.

Back off a bit? My only options were letting him hit me, slamming on my brakes causing the person behind me to rear end me, or changing lanes into a minivan. There was no “backing off” video will be up tomorrow

You can't see or control the car behind you so not your problem that would be impossible to avoid. Seeing the car and not slamming your breaks if you admit you could have, shows it's your fault.
A CDL driver is held to a higher standard because of the damage you are able to create with your vehicle. Good luck, hopefully your insurance doesn't push them to talk to a lawyer. You are basically a giant dollar sign to any lawyer out there.

glad you had the dashcam, that's basically your whole case right there. if his insurance gives you trouble you can file through your own carrier and let them subrogate, or hire a trucking accident attorney in the DMV area. for florida-based stuff my cousin used Farber Law.

Nope. Let 3 cars in that lane merge with me at a zipper and made it very clear I wasn’t letting him in. It’s all on dash cam and safety and insurance say I’m all good. If I let him in, then I let the next guy in, and the next asshole and suddenly I’m just sitting there. You must not drive in the DMV

It does not matter what the idiot was doing. You are supposed to be driving carefully to avoid hitting cars when they do shit like that! For example If someone slams on breaks in front of you instead of trying to stop are you going to just plow into them because they shouldn’t have?

I was driving carefully. I always drive carefully. I just decided to let an asshole realize he was being an asshole.

I wasn’t trying to prove him wrong. I was just in my lane. You must not drive anywhere near the DMV. Either you can’t read or are just being obtuse. This was nuts to butt traffic, I had the right of way at an alternate merge, let 3 people in his lane in front of me, and took my turn. He decided to collide with my rig.
Again let me emphasize this… this is the 495 in Maryland. I don’t know what kind of Midwest carefree driving you are used to… but out here if you don’t go you just sit there. I did my diligence and then some to let people merge and this guy was taking advantage because he didn’t want to be stuck behind a truck.
If I let him in, I let the next guy in, and the next guy, and the next guy.
When safety gives me the video tomorrow morning I’ll upload it here and tag you. But it just sounds like you are new to this and not used to actual city traffic and just want to stick to “just be a professional driver and let everyone walk all over you”

That looks like mostly surface transfer and some panel denting, annoying but not the worst outcome for a first accident. A lot of that white scuff might buff out, but the crease on the door will likely need body work. Glad you’re okay, that’s always the main thing.
