Why does everyone have a Peq15?

Ok stupid question but indulge me if you could please.
Why do I always see every person or video with a peq-15 or some other brand of IR/Illuminator laser on their AR?
Why is this so significant and necessary on a rifle like every single person is running night vision? I get it to some extent, but are there other reasons or any significance to buying a legit one?
I have a hard time justifying it when I’d rather just go buy a brand new thermal or do another 2 full build for that price.
I’m no stranger to throwing some pricey stuff on a build but I really don’t see the use unless you have NV unless their are other things its helpful with.
Be nice, spit some knowledge if you have any.

The Peq-15 is the easy button as it just straight up works well, is proven and if you are some sort of LEO or Military it is almost certainly already approved equipment.
Civilians with them already have a 4k minimum night vision rig so are not that price sensitive for something that works without a lot of hassle and research

Out of all the gun owners I know only 1 of us has any type of thermal or night vision. He spent thousands on it. I don’t see myself getting anything like that anytime soon, unless I stumble into a bunch of money.

I’m on a deer lease quite a few of us run NV or thermal. We have endless hogs, coyotes, bobcats and raccoons to hunt at night.

Every time I turn on my thermal scope or thermal monocle, it brings a smile on my face!

I have them on two rifles, but my units are 4 way units with a white flashlight, visible green laser infrared laser and an infrared illuminator. I rarely use the infrared portions, but I do when hunting at night.
I have them because for me, there is nothing else that can give me that much functionality in such a small and light package.

You always say build after mounting an optic?

everyone is watching their favorite gunbro on youtube and sees them using one and in turn want one too. im betting more than half the people who own one dont even have nods
hitemlow@reddit
And of the half that do, 80% don't have land they can shoot on at night to actually train with their NV.
WhoisMrO@reddit
Idk where you live, but in the SW US we have tons of BLM land.
hitemlow@reddit
There's pretty much zero on the eastern half of the country.
BBQSauce61@reddit
You're seeing over representation of people who either have them and don't use them, or do have them and do, simply because stuff like that generates clicks and views. Compared to the general gun owner population, while its been becoming more popular due to technology development and reduced cost options from China, thermal and night vision/related equipment is not owned by many people.
Soupcasebody@reddit
I can only speak for myself and the people I train with we use nods half the year so it stay on the rifles all the time no reason not to have a LAM.
misfitofscience76@reddit
What do you got, how much is it and where should we buy it?
SentoTheFirst@reddit
Replicas are $200-$300 that can work ok. Real ones are like $1500.
RegardedCaveman@reddit
I’d rather have one rifle setup the way I like, that works day or night, inside or outside, near or intermediate, with it without my NVG, than 7 rifle builds.

i’d bet cool factor is 99% of the reason. truthfully most guys probably don’t need any attachment that isn’t integral to the gun’s function in their entire lives. i have an eotech and magnifier and i don’t think ive shot anything further than like 100 yards (location constrains me) but i think it is super cool so i did that
GSDTippyTappies@reddit
Many are probably for the same reason people put rediculously oversized stupid looking wings on the back of their cars, they don't actually help with downforce and the cars don't race, it's because they look cool and it's another accessory people like to buy.
