College?

Hey yall, I just got my sat score today and I don’t know if it’s good enough to get into a decent flight college. I got an 1150 total, 630 English and 520 on math, is this good enough? For reference I want to go to WMU because it’s in state and I’d prefer to stay in state. Additional I got a perfect score on the essay but I’ve heard that the essay isn’t weighed too heavily in admissions.

I’m in a similar ballpark as you, after touring various aviation schools, I’m just sticking to my local flight school, getting a line job there, and doing online college.
It’s not for everyone, but college flight schools and local flight schools alike give you the same training and ratings.

Probably cheaper too.

I got into WMUs aviation program back in 2018 with a 24 on my ACT which is around 1130 SAT I think. 🤷♂️ you should be fine

I think your extracurriculars (e.g. an involvement in the aviation space) are more important. I had a 1330 but decided not to present it to most of the schools I applied to. I was admitted to UND, ERAU daytona, Purdue, and ASU. Idk what admissions committee think, but what I believe made me stand out was my engagement in the aviation community (airport internship, flight training scholarship program, school aviation club president, etc.), rather than my academic merit.
**Whatever happens, just please understand that entering a collegiate program is hefty expensive, and many scholarships do NOT cover flight training, regardless of the school says.** Also, don't buy into "this school is partnered with this airline!", as it's most likely outdated hiring boom propaganda. From what I hear, R-ATP's aren't even that much more admirable at the end of the day. Have a plan B for when the plan doesn't work out.
Best of luck! : )

Attending an aviation college is not a requirement for a productive career as a pilot.
You can do as good or better than others attending a university that doesn’t have an aviation program.
One of our frequent contributors created a good blog post that might help with college questions.
