I felt like this in September, possibly norovirus although I only vomitted a few times. The diarrhoea was awful, I've never been so ill and I had no strength, felt dizzy for a couple of days didn't feel fully right for over a week.
Do you use dual defense nasal spray? From boots. Really works, kids haven't had so much as sniffle all year, normally they get colds as soon as they strategy back in school. Good luck. There's a few versions, vicks makes one as well.
I second this, it’s great and helps shorten any symptoms. Has to be the Boots one as it’s natural ingredients and doesn’t have any nasty chemicals that burn your nose like the Vicks one.
I was at a gig on Monday and was wiped out for a few days after thinking I just overdid it. But then the sore throat that I thought was from singing got really bad, and has now morphed into a proper snotty cold, headache, fatigue and general yuckiness. Just in time for the bank holiday!
Contrary to popular belief norovirus isn't just a winter disease and can actually peak in spring/summer depending on the strains doing the rounds.
Used to be an emetophobe (scared of vomiting) until I found a cure, so I knew my onions on this and never let my guard down!
Also worth noting Covid is still very much a thing, and again contrary to what people (incorrectly) said pre-vaccine, it is now "just a cold/flu" in that for most people it will be nothing more than a mild but annoying illness that can cause everything we're seeing mentioned in this thread - bad throat, cough, runny nose, stomach/arse upset, you get the idea.
u/roidweiser is winding you up with the onions joke. Though the clue is in his username.
Testosterone. Turned out mine was low which caused awful panic attacks and anxiety for years. When I corrected it they simply vanished, along with the fear of vomiting, which was the primary concern but a nice bonus.
Noooo, absolutely not. I mean, it probably could cure it perfectly, but injecting testosterone as a woman is a big no-no unless you want a deep voice, hairy chest, and well, other stuff that's a bit crude to go into!
That said, I would look at hormone levels. I'm something of an amateur expert on male hormones because I did, and continue to do, so much reading on it through my own journey, but I know very little on female hormones.
That said, estrogen levels and in particular thyroid levels are a huge factor in female hormones, and can have all kinds of effects, I do know that. Unfortunately most GPs are pretty clueless on this (and that's not a criticism, they're GPs not endos) so I'd probably recommend an endocrinologist but as hormones aren't taken overly seriously by the NHS (ask any women over a certain age, or anyone who is trans) you'd probably need to go private.
You could do your own research into this, but I'd strongly advise caution. For men, injecting testosterone is easy, highly effective, and basically risk-free unless you're going into very high "anabolic steroids" levels (and even then the risks are easily mitigated). But when it comes to stuff like thyroid medication and the like, you really don't want to be self-medicating and taking any advice from non-qualified people.
My GP immediately prescribed HRT for me when I brought it up.
Women/AFAB people can absolutely have low testosterone levels and benefit from hormone therapy, even before perimenopause. Women have testosterone and it plays a very important role. Taking testosterone as a woman won't necessarily lead to male secondary sexual characteristics.
So many people think Covid isn't still out there. I caught it at the end of February for the first time (somehow managed to avoid it through the whole Pandemic) and it wiped me out for 2 weeks. When I said I'd tested a few of my colleagues were asking why I did because 'surely it's gone now' like I hadn't been interacting with them and with friends and family right before I got sick. It's a good job I did because I did accidentally pass it to a friend who works with the public. Because for him it wasn't as bad he wouldn't have tested if I hadn't and gone to work sick to spread it. There are plenty of folks out there Covid can still kill just the same as the flu kills people every year too.
I do have a few chronic illnesses which I suspect is why it took me out the way it did. It was horrendous. I haven't felt that unwell from a virus in years and now about 5 weeks later I'm still dealing with issues as a result of it. My immune system is fucked. Since I caught it I've managed to catch norovirus as well as tonsillitis and now I'm dealing with a UTI, and my hayfever is the worst it's ever been. On top of that I have POTS, which I've had my whole life but was able to manage without medication for about a decade, but now it's so bad I'm back on medication and still experiencing presyncope every day and passing out from getting up too fast or standing for too long. It's like I've gone right back to before I got diagnosed. I also now have constant fatigue worse than ever. I'm 31 and struggling to stay awake during the day and barely have the energy to get through a day at work. I come home and basically eat and go to bed. If I do something over a weekend I can only really do one day of activity and spend the following day sleeping to recover. The GP can't diagnose long covid yet but I have a suspicion that's what's going on. Covid took my already burning dumpster fire health and poured petrol on it.
Like you said, for most people Covid is like a bad cold or normal flu and that's a result of it mutating over time and becoming more virulent but less dangerous, which is what all coronaviruses do. Last year's flu often becomes the following year's cold and whatnot. But it's still out there and people can get it more than once. But if you've had it recently you will have increased immunity for a while which is neat. Hopefully I won't get it again or at least I can go a few years. I had the flu just before Covid happened and that's the last time I've been as sick as I was. A lot of folks I know that don't have a shitty health situation like I do have had it and said they had heavy cold symptoms and upset stomachs. Also despite it being spring, Norovirus does spike this time of year and lots of people are getting RSV, plus just general bugs spreading as more people go outside as the weather gets better and the days last longer. More people mixing in public places equates to more germ spreading naturally.
Sorry to hear it hit you so hard. I think some people are just more susceptible to it than others. My colleague and I got vaccinated at the same time, I felt crap, especially after the second and third dose, whereas she didn't feel a thing. Then we also got it at the same time. She could test herself out of quarantine whereas I had to add to mine. I'd been feeling off for weeks, to the point where I was almost relieved when the test was finally positive and I knew what was going on. Could barely eat for ten days and alternated between lying in bed shivering and sitting in the sun until I no longer could because of the pain. Even when I was back at work, it took a long time to shake it off completely.
The second time I got it was a walk in the park compared to the first.
It proved handy that I seem to have a weird telltale sign for covid: apart from all the nasty fluey crap, my shins hurt. After every vaccination and during every infection. No idea why, but handy.
Yes! Since Monday, I had to log off work at lunchtime and took Tuesday as sick. Still feeling nauseous with anything I eat going straight through me. Bad tummy cramps and backache. I have IBS so I’m used to having an unpredictable toilet routine but this is something else!
The past few days I have been absolutely drained of energy. I’ve gone to work, come home in the afternoon and slept through until the next morning. I don’t have any other traditional flu or cold like symptoms but I have been getting headaches and an aching upper back and neck.
Likewise - and I dont get hayfever. Definitely some sort of nasty doing the rounds - NHS say the usual suspects (Cov, flu, rsv) are at low levels currently so probably one of the regular cold viruses going for aches rather than sniffles. The tiredness and headaches just as the sun and warmth return are so irritating!
Cornwall- Husband started feeling off randomly Saturday evening after tea, then spent the night shivering and throwing up multiple times and sweating, baby was sick on Sunday night, I was sick with the same symptoms Wednesday night after eating tea, then had a bout of dizziness and funny vision Thursday evening for around half an hour
I never have problems with my somach but this week ive been off work all week with extreme explosive diarreha, unable to keep fluids down let alone eat.
I felt dizzy yesterday, but thought nothing of it as I have low blood pressure. Later felt a little shaky, but carried on as it passed.
However, it’s now 05:55 and I woke at 04:55 with stomach cramps and had to run to the loo. Now on the sofa with the dog, I’ve now got mild cramps. Otherwise I don’t feel unwell though.
I’ve usually got a cast iron stomach, haven’t eaten anything unusual. So I’m guessing I’ve got some sort of stomach upset.
I had something vaguely similar this week. Two days where I had nosebleeds and dizziness/tunnel vision to the point that I passed out during a work meeting, combined with an upset stomach. Felt fine before and much better now, so no idea what it was.
One of my twins (1.5 years) caught some sort of mild cold a few days ago, but also has conjunctivitis.
I started with a sore throat and stuffy nose at about 4pm...woke up at 2am with my right eye glued shut with gunk. It's now nearly 5am and my other eye isn't happy.
I guess that's life with 2 toddlers who sneeze in your face on the regular!
For what it's worth the kids have been basically poorly since early December with random sniffles and viruses (hand foot and mouth). Luckily I've only caught about 75% of them 🫠
No but im not to good tonight, im putting it down to the sun though. I had a drive around the A Roads in the Peak District and the day before that I did my garden, I sweat a lot, mainly my head and back so it doesn't smell and is usually salty as I keep them up with electrolyte powder, today it was like water. I fell asleep around 8pm....Just absolutely gone, I woke up feeling like I had a hang over, you know quite nervous and on edge and just feeling off, so I had 8mg of Clonazepam on top of my 4mg prescribed a day for epilepsy and a few hours later I nodded off until around 0330 and woke up after a vivid and very violent dream which isn't uncommon for me but thats usually near the end of a proper sleep. I've got no dehydration powder so I've just ate loads of fruit and had a strong brew, loads of biscuits. I still feel off but it's not uncommon for me to get tired when the sun comes up and I will get a 5 to 6 hour kip.
On the dreams I watch a lot of true crime as it's the only thing on until the early hours and I worked as a croupier for most of my working life and whatever I try I cannot get it back to normal and my GP has said he's seen it before in constant night workers and he was the same whilst doing his training years in the hospital.
I do feel really off and just hope I nod off at 5am. I've got my car coming back from an accident repair centre and they are taking my courtesy car back and I can see them phoning me up bang on 8am to say he's outside. I'm currently decorating also and need to do the main stuff tomorrow.....im really hoping I dont feel like is being described as the room needs a few more bits taken out, the carpet and bed covering in that sticky cling film, sugar soap then paint and I can't be arsed doing that whilst feeling off.
Just some tips, ask your pharmacist for some cyclyzine for vomiting and loperimide for the loose ants.......codeine or any other strong opiate is better for that though.
I'm starting to properly yawn so wish me at least 4 hours sleep and also going into REM sleep even if it be something violent or bad from the past 🙃
Not the same symptoms but I've had an awful cold/cough thing for more than a week. On and off fever, chills, struggling to do basic tasks because I'm so wiped. Cough that's keeping me awake and feels like I can't breathe right. I'm asthmatic and I know I should probably drag myself to the doctor, but the idea of driving anywhere is exhausting.
yeah i have seen a lot of people mention similar symptoms lately, it is usually some kind of stomach bug going around so it can hit different people at the same time even in different places. as long as it passes in a few days and you stay hydrated it is pretty common, but it is still good to be careful
I had this late Jan/early Feb, these exact symptoms, GP told me it was a nasty winter virus that was going around, possibly still is. Took me well over a month to stop feeling dizzy, even with medication prescribed for it (I went to see a doctor cause I thought it was an inner ear thing, since I'm prone to ear infections)
Literally coming off the tail end of it... Started 1 1/2 weeks ago as a slightly stuffy ear. By Friday it was so badly blocked that I was feeling lopsided (which doesn't help when it gets that bad part way into a work shift and it's a physical job). Then by Sunday I could hear hadly anything from either ear with some very sore and swollen "neck glands". Iffy tummy throughout. Have only started to feel human again the last couple of days.
There has been this long lasting 1 to 2 month long ass cold going on. I had bad abdominal cramps and a flare of my CFS indicating something was being fought because any kind of immune reaction sets mine off and i become bedridden (including immune responses to a food intolerance, soy). I seldom if ever get nausea like I did there.
I’m in London and have had this this week. Started Monday night, awful all day Tuesday, back to normal Wednesday and then it started again today. I work in pharmacy and so many people came in for treatment for suspected food poisoning that I was sure it must be some kind of bug doing the rounds instead and then I got it. Horrible illness but hopefully that’s the end of it.
I've not been right since September last year. I'm just about recovering and my GP still has no idea what it could be. Inconclusive stomach issues. Ruled out the big C, gastro, ulcers, bacteria... I'm back to excercising and not feeling tired at all, at least.
Argh no not had that, I really hope to avoid it! I did have a nasty cough, sore throat, body aches and dizziness thing a couple of weeks ago, maybe Covid? Still feeling snotty and a bit of vertigo, which I always get when ill these days.
I’m suffering with the remnants of some form of respiratory illness / virus! Started with a tickly throat then my sinuses were sore (swollen nose which I’ve never had before) and then turned to a really bad cough. Someone at my work with the same symptoms went to the doctors and they said it’s RSV. Fingers crossed I’m better next week otherwise I’ll have to take myself to the doctors

Haven't been ill since 12/13yo, 38 now. I do have a disability which I would say has been worse than any illness I've experienced.
I'm rarely around people so it's hard to catch anything. Only seen my mum (twice) in the last 2 weeks.

Yes this morning all of a sudden I couldn't hold it in and went everywhere I never experienced such intensity in vomiting.
I got heavy bloating last night with drained energy and fever

I'm back to excercising and not feeling tired at all, at least.

no touch wood but sounds like norovirus
