Great so al qaeda, isis, and friends are going to end up taking an entire country. Its been commented on by a range of analysts just how efficient this atta k has been and how skilled the drone pilots supporting the offensive seem to be.
It's worth taking a moment to reacquaint yourself with the horror of these groups.
I fear we will be dealing with the aftermath of this year's down the line.

Well, they kicked out the French and antagonized the Tuareg tribe, both of which were helping them combat these Islamic militants before. And for what? A Russian paramilitary which offered a much lesser military presence and had no experience with local terrain and politics.

I mean we can all summarise history. No one is disputing this. I'm more concerned about having a terrorist run state in Central Africa moving forward.

You should be even more concerned by the fact that the same/friendly groups operate in multiple countries in the Sahel, and are likely to grow across the region.

Burkina Faso is pretty close to collapse. In fact the Alliance of Sahel States of them, Mali and Niger of the Russian/Wagner-backed coupist countries is supposed to be a military alliance, a Sahel NATO. Why are they not helping? Because they are collapsing because they chose Russia as a protector and cannot stand on their own. But Russia is a shadow of itself which is stretched thin by the quagmire it got itself by attacking Ukraine... Their clients everywhere are falling.

Short term it suits them more to keep up the flows of valuable raw materials like gold.

Literal gold mines in Mali that Wager/Afrika Korps was/is emptying, right? Yes. And avoiding a loss of credibility, yes. And the Sahel coup-countries could have been used by Russia to act as pressuring agents regarding migration. But if they fall... Russia still has that crises to benefit from as a consolation prize.

Did you even read the article.
They are blocking one access route, that's it.
They initially tried taking over the capital ,but they failed and where pushed back.
The article mentions a similar coordinated effort by insurgents groups back in 2000's but the french corp and African corp were only capable of pushing them back out of the capital.
Last year, ppl where claiming that their fuel blockade was going to bring about the collapse of the govt, it didn't so these groups very desperately are coordinating attacks together.
