I used the AI verification yesterday. It went just fine and it was super fast.

what about people without palms?

githman@reddit
IBM is an active volcano, all things considered.
While the tendency is of course concerning, corporations have been cutting the corners on customer verification for a decade at least. I still remember my surprise in maybe 2017 when Airbnb approved my account in seconds after I sent them my fairly horrible Android camera photo. There was no way a live person could have made the decision so fast; it ought to be some optical recognition software agreeing that this picture does look like a middle-aged guy my other registration details identified me as.
And if a corporation intends to use your data for AI training anyway, there's no difference if it happens during the approval process or later.

I have said multiple times, make them listen to this: https://youtu.be/VbYUeORbd1s

It will just reorganize so you can't tell if it's melting.

Lot of you seem to get stuck on the ID part, that's not the problem here, nor is it unrealistic you have to show your ID when taking an exam, like voting. The AI part and storing the data however, yikes.
Titdirt69420@reddit
Depends who you talk to in America. Last I checked this is racist.
Titdirt69420@reddit
Id's required to use your computer and take an exam, but not for voting. Makes tons of sense.
rdruash@reddit
Yeah I have no problem with the an ID verification by a HUMAN. I’m not interested in having any form of AI slop anywhere near my documents
natermer@reddit
Using software to validate IDs has been going on for decades now.
sojuz151@reddit
What is the difference? Why do you care? What are you even angry about? An OCR?
That_HalfCrazy@reddit
They are making it mandatory for everyone to upload their gov issued ID to an AI. And I'm pretty sure they are going to post-train their AI, which means not only will it be stored in their database, it will be used as a training material for their AI. So, in many ways it's different from an OCR
sojuz151@reddit
Do you have any evidence for that or are you just making stuff up?
Vellanne_@reddit
These ai id verification company's are very odd and suspicious. There's really no need to take pictures of yourself and all that. Most major banks can immediately verify your identity through federation.
Al_Keda@reddit
\^\^\^ This. I don't ind sharing my ID to take a test. But recording and storing that ID and all the information it contains is off limits.
sojuz151@reddit
I don't understand what the problem is that people have other than generic "AI bad". Maybe I am missing something?
Coaxalis@reddit
you're missing everything.
sojuz151@reddit
Could you maybe share some details?
CirkuitBreaker@reddit
Somebody please tell me this is fake.
redsteakraw@reddit
Just like voting you should be showing an ID to take a test.
j0seplinux@reddit
I mean...this is for an exam, right? So it does warrant some kind of an id check. I honestly see no problem here.
GolemancerVekk@reddit
When I needed to get verified for an official online account with my local government (I'm in the EU) I scheduled an online video conference with a government clerk who confirmed live that I am the person on my ID.
This is also how many live certifications do it.
Also, let's get real, it's not a bar exam is a Red Hat certification. No need for them to be so precious about it.
The only reason for Red Hat/ to do it any differently is to have your ID on file and use it for AI training.
j0seplinux@reddit
Why would they need your ID for AI training? I mean, they probably have your name, birth date, a photo, they could just use this data to train their ai if they wanted to.
GolemancerVekk@reddit
They should not have your birth date or photo. They need the name to put on the certificate and that's pretty much everything they need.
Identity verification should be a one time thing, done on the spot in a way that doesn't end up storing any personal data.
Normally they shouldn't even want personal data because it comes with a much higher bar for regulations such as GDPR.
OberstObvious@reddit
Oh dear, it will save me from showing my physical ID card, which I always have with me anyways because being able to show that to a police officer on reasonable demand is mandatory, to a human on the day of the exam. How thoughtful of them, now all I have to do is share my photo ID with unknown third parties for eternity and beyond to be used for all sorts of unknown purposes. That doesn't give me stress at all!
INITMalcanis@reddit
Just how much porn is there in this exam?!
thunderbird32@reddit
How is it a "fast-pass check-in" if you can't check-in at all without it?
killersteak@reddit
the usual practice exam thing is still open though?
Murakia@reddit
Man I'm so sick of this trend. Fuck anyone that requires uploading government ID. They're taking identity theft way too lightly.
Al_Keda@reddit
I have a problem with anyone who isn't the government requiring my government ID.
In my jurisdiction, It's a violation of the Privacy Legislation to require me to give private information that I don't want to give.
RudePragmatist@reddit
This is IBMs hand in the background. I worked for them long enough to recognise it.
Al_Keda@reddit
Third.
smile_e_face@reddit
Yep, had the exact same thought.
TeamAffe@reddit
In the end, we're all screwed! Don't forget when Linus Torwald spoke out against the "fake news of Corona vaccinations", which were right in the end. Free software for the ass. Whether Windows or Linux, in the end everything will come down to a controlled system.
KestrelVO@reddit
Oh nooo! If it isn't the same ones that pushed an age check json file on Linux!
FLMKane@reddit
If it isn't the same ones that pushed systemd period!
WhitePeace36@reddit
wtf that is wild
WaliBoi@reddit (OP)
Let me clarify what I have issues with. It's not the verification of ID, it's the storing of ID and pushing more towards AI verification and recording.
For contrast, CompTIA & Cisco Exams only required me to show up to the exam with the ID and did not store my ID nor pushed AI verification of the ID.
ElCondorHerido@reddit
Are they expected to give certifications away without verifying identity? really?
Al_Keda@reddit
Verifying identity is very different from recording identity.
mystictroll@reddit
Checking your ID is a standard procedure for any online/offline exams.
uziam@reddit
How is this “pushing AI ID verification”? Do you want them to artificially slow it down so you don’t feel annoyed waiting when you choose manual verification?
