Abandoned post-Cold War project from PZL for a stealthy STOL ground attack aircraft.

I think one of the notable elements is how cartoonishly small it is for a modern military jet aircraft. At 10 meters it is almost 9.5 meters shorter top to tail than an F—15, and still 4.5 meters shorter than the F-5, a plane generally seen as smaller than most in its class.
This plane is ironically extremely similar to one of the paper concept planes dreamed up by the American Air Force “reformers” which was an ultra cheap and bare bones aircraft armed with just a 30mm cannon to strafe ground targets. The Skorpion was intended to be armed with either a 25mm or 30mm cannon. However unlike the American reformers cincept this project was intended to be stealth and fly by wire. The stealth requirement was dropped sometime before the cancellation of the project however.

Does the american project have a name?
Mighty_moose45@reddit
It does but I legitimately don’t remember what it’s called, it was only ever a paper design of a plane with no radar, small profile, and 30mm cannons

Looks out of f Ace Combat to me.

I immediately thought of the Falken from AC5

The middle design is the closest you'll ever get to an ADF-01 Fallen.

looks out of inspector gadget to me

So the payload is a drop tank or a single missile lol

Point defense fighter like a Bachem or Me 163.

Yeah, I don't think Poland was looking for a plane that could cross the Atlantic and return, their opponent was right at their doorstep
postmodest@reddit
the design progress is "1. Steal from Burt Rutan. 2. This is going nowhere, let's just steal from the Polish taxpayer and do some Macross shit."

Stealthy, STOL, cheap: pick any two. They tried to get around the old "Good, Fast, Cheap" choice.

What if we Chibi-Gundam'd an SR-71?
domesystem@reddit
Well hello there VF-9 Cutlass from Macross M3/Delta..
cloudubious@reddit
I gotta make one of these as an rc plane at some point.
redmercuryvendor@reddit
I'd have gone with the VF-4, since it has the podded engines.

Hmm.
It has been three years since the last time this was here.
I approve this periodic repost.

I honestly wished it go almost mach 2. I wonder how many hard points it had. It would be great for FOB and quick turnaround times.
Ragnarok_Stravius@reddit
I remember making the bottom design, and mixing the top design with a F-89 Scorpion from the USAF in SimplePlanes.
KPSWZG@reddit
Scorpion was suppouse to be light CAS super maneuverable and agile, 25mm cannon was suppouse to work in tandem with smart ammunition. Plane was suppouse to be cheap nimble and easy to operate. It was suppouse to be used in CAS operations in case of defence war hence small size and range. It was never meant as offencive weapon. Due end of cold war and shift in military doctrine it was never really constructed.
mbarland@reddit (OP)
That certainly explains the 160nm combat radius.

Basically the ADFX-01 Morgan from Ace Combat without the laser mounted on top
FullAutoFring@reddit
First pic looks almost identical to ace combat somehow

Would the canards so far back provide any serious extra pitch authority?

I love it. Where do you insert the quarter? But wow I do love it.
