High IQ is great if you like solving puzzles faster than most people or making relevant connections between various disparate knowledge that aren’t clearly visible to most people ( also can have false positives on that just like any schitzo ), or hating the universe and talking to most people.
What it doesn’t do is give you drive and if you actually have a conscience then your limited in how well it will let you succeed, you know deeply and remember well any acts that you do that cause harm or allow harm to happen.
High enough IQ you’ll realize why do all this bullshit when you can just be happy without it.
SigaVa@reddit
There's also a huge amount of luck involved in making significant contributions to science.
Substantial_Bet_1007@reddit
This luck and elitism and the principle of "you are x race and dokt know the guy i do and dont have the funding because you didnt sucked the funders dicks so you should fuck yourself" makes me abondon the science career
the_quivering_wenis@reddit
"you are x race"? I thought Black people were allowed to science now
Fwob@reddit
science is racist
Secure_Narwhal4045@reddit
And sexist and transphobic and antigod and it killed my grandmother. Ban science!
ShinyArc50@reddit
They were for like 4 years until now, it’s apparently DEI woke Marxism to let black people do science according to the government
the_quivering_wenis@reddit
ahem "let black people do science" == "unfairly promote underqualified minorities in the name of diversity" fixed that for you hippy
ShinyArc50@reddit
Yeah I wish that was true. The U.S. government already threw out DEI like last year, now they’ve moved on to deleting history exhibits for black scientists and renaming Navy ships that were named after black war heroes.
Hell, they refuse to fund any project surrounding ending de facto segregation. They also have Laura Loomer, trump’s veritable Rudolf Hess, now calling Candace Owens a “nappy headed black bitch” for daring to question Israel.
the_quivering_wenis@reddit
it's like there's some kind of little shit gremlin just crouching under the societal pendulum smacking it back and forth as quickly as possible lol
ShinyArc50@reddit
I’ve always said that noticing racism is still noticing. Elites will feed the right wing all sorts of debunked bullshit about race science and eugenics, and at the same time, will feed the left wing all sorts of bullshit about identity politics that says minorities can’t do anything themselves.
the_quivering_wenis@reddit
have you ever looked at SAT scores grouped by ethnicity
JKCsaba@reddit
Yeah, everyone being treated equally regardless of their race, gender and appearance is science fiction even now, they get either negative or positive discrimination.
Darkndankpit@reddit
Lmfao positive discrimination?
I think you mean reactionary over-correction. It's not like what MAGA thinks dei is, it's more that a small portion of progressives are virtue-signalers or are ignorant of the actual source-issues (like any type of person can be) so they think they're 'helping' by grouping all white folks/men/straights/ect. In a negative light.
There's a culture-war push and pull going on, where some folks overreaction to injustice pushes more neutral people awayto the right, and others who are supporting injustice push those who care further to the left.
Another issue is that, when you've been privileged in certain ways your whole life it feels normal to you. So when that privilege is extended fairly to everyone else, the privileged person can often feel like they're being mistreated or made 'lesser'.
Routine-Ad-2840@reddit
not to mention the people you surround yourself with, as Arnold would say, there is no such thing as a self made man, we are the culmination of our environment, and genetic lottery.

High IQ is directly correlated to professional success and accumulation of wealth.
But you don’t want an IQ too high. The world is built for 95-140 IQ people.
poop-machines@reddit
Actually when you look at very high iq (130+) it's associated with underachievement. This is more true for those that are 150+.
Its also associated with drug abuse.
High iq can be a curse if not nurtured. People in this bracket can feel alienated from others, have a difficulty connecting to people, and face exclusion because being too smart is annoying/weird. Imagine if you had a friend who's was constantly saying things you didn't understand, for a lot of people this puts them off.
kopernagel@reddit
Econmajorhere@reddit
Worked in finance, knew some high IQ autists. They were driven by two things: ego and money (another form of ego after a certain level).
I think most eventually moved on to fund some projects on their own but finance gave them exactly what they needed at that stage of their lives- quantifiable proof that they are right/world is wrong, and money to eventually clean up, get fit, buy a Ferrari and get laid.
The world offers drive and motivation, just have to connect the steps to get there.
Paratwa@reddit
Absolutely.
I too sold my soul.
Mickybagabeers@reddit
Finally, someone gets me! I’m not lazy, I’m high IQ 🍻
Paratwa@reddit
It’s more … I don’t want to say ennui as that implies a lack of desire but more weltschmerz ( German word ) that fits it better. Knowing the difference between what should be and what is and your lack of ability to change it on your own or get a group of others to do it that breaks you.
Cuck_Boy@reddit
Amen
Flagnoid@reddit
yup, low IQ and lower morals are a much better key to success.
that and daddy's emerald mine
Paratwa@reddit
That’s not what I am saying at all.
I’m saying that high IQ doesn’t equal success at all, and often can lead to disaster via a number of different means.
Musk would be a great example of what I meant there talking about a lack of conscience and schitzo patterns. Not that he doesn’t also do a lot of great things, I think he is a piece of shit, but he has also done good stuff via other much smarter people at his companies.
Frankly I wouldn’t say he is greatly gifted, more driven than anything else and has access to money.

An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large fin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.
The Mexican replied, “Only a little while.”
The American then asked why he didn’t stay out longer and catch more fish.
The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs.
The American then asked, “But what do you do with the rest of your time?”
The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life.”
The American scoffed. “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat, and with the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats. Eventually, you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman, you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually NYC, where you will run your expanding enterprise.”
The Mexican fisherman asked, “But how long will this take?”
To which the American replied, “Fifteen to twenty years.”
“But what then?”
The American laughed and said that’s the best part. “When the time is right, you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich; you would make millions.”
“Millions?” asked the fisherman. “Then what?”
The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evening, sip wine, and play guitar with your amigos!”

Also there are different personalities. Some high IQ people will be kind and others will be evil dipshits who will destroy the planet for their personal benefit while avoiding the jail time they deserve. Some people don’t value money and don’t see it as a sign of success
Paratwa@reddit
Money is just a means to an end. Once you make enough of it, it no longer becomes interesting unless something is broken inside of you.
Enough varies from person to person though. Some people want to run companies, need to, to accomplish a vision. Others just want to pay the bills without worry.

morbo-2142@reddit
Important context he widrew after being arrested during the first red scare for demonstrating with socialists and anarchists.
So this obviously brilliant individual got arrested for protesting peacefully by a moronic right wing overzealous government.
Its always the same objectively brilliant people fall victim to right wing anti intellectual bias. It was more direct in this case but often they are targeted because of a precieved link between academics and the left.
It always interesting how the left is always tied to academia and higher learning in general and most non-wealthy, non-aristircrat intellectuals are on the left. Also interesting alot of them appeared when education became something way more people got access to.
TlDr; he is a victim of anti left/intellectual bias. How many people have thr right crushed/ driven into obscurity that could have changed the face of science?
graphical_molerat@reddit
The thing is, in the 1950ies, being virulently anti-left made some sense. What with the Soviet Union and other communist experiments being a thing back then. Featuring brutal dictatorships with jackbooted secret police, barbed wire along the borders to prevent people escaping from the socialist paradise, labour camps and the occasional mass starvation campaign against undesirable ethnicities thrown in for good measure (Holodomor). While at the same time the capitalist model had not yet degenerated to the dysfunctional state it has reached now. That’s not to say that the political left didn’t have a point even back then: just that being scared of the more extreme forms of it was actually not that unreasonable. McCarthy was still a crook: but he could not have egged on people to quite the frenzy he managed to stir up if there absolutely had not been anything to be afraid of.
morbo-2142@reddit
Im not in disagreement with you points about how brutal the Soviets were.
This happened much earlier than McCarthy. The first red scare was like 1919 1920 ish. The Soviets had just taken power.
He also marched with anarchists and socialists. The anarchists were not fans of the Soviets either.
sarattenasai@reddit
Oh no pretty dumb people fall victim to "right wing anti pedantic bias" too, it's not just the brilliant ones. It's almost as if a high percentage of academics were useless morons writing bullshit papers with public money because no company would fund their research.
Naturally these objectively parasitizing crooks support an ideology that wants more taxes (more money collected to pay them) and spending more public money (guess where spending goes). And of course most of the poor people are on the left, because leftist ideology is to give to the poor.
I guess you feel like one of these highly intelligent pedantic useless fools that dedicate their lives to investigating microplastics and then finds out study is tainted because of their plastic gloves? Gl fr.

ExoTheFlyingFish@reddit
If blindly hating others is your idea of "better"...
morbo-2142@reddit
Im kinda stumped. Point to any hate in my comments. Im frustrated and disappointed but not hateful.
The nazi comparison is even more out of pocket. They hated leftists and intellectuals. They had freaking book burnings and were murdering people in the streets.
Didn't expect to be called a nazi for saying things the right and nazis do were and are bad.
This thread has been fascinating.
ExoTheFlyingFish@reddit
Okay.
That's a pretty blatant example of hate.
But let's talk broad-scale, here. What do you call it when you hate every black person because a few of them committed crimes? What do you call it when you hate every woman because a few of them cheated? What do you call it when you hate every gay person because they defied the Bible?
That's right, it's called hate. What you're doing here is hating on the entirety of the right wing because of what a few individuals did.
BlurtSkirtBlurgy@reddit
Im not disagreeing that far enough right is anit intellectual but let's not pretend that if you go far enough left its anti intellectual again.
morbo-2142@reddit
Authoritarian perhaps. Getting stuck in an ideology and a heriarchy can make people dogmatic. The Soviets and Maoists have a track record of bad science. It's about authority and control as well.
But you don't get much further left than anarchists and I've not heard any Anti science rhetoric from any of them.
Adorable-Act-3858@reddit
Yeah, because anarchists won't try to control people like that. It's kinda their whole deal.
morbo-2142@reddit
Haha top tier bait. Anarchists love control haha. So much its why the entire ideology is based on no heriarchy and not controlling people.

morbo-2142@reddit
What a weird thing to say. The American executive branch is trying to dismantle the education department and threatening to withhold funding for universities over policial issues. The modern right wing is as anti intellectual, and specificly anti educational, as ever. There are multiple studies that conclude education results in people shifting left.
Not everyone who is "smart" is a leftist, but being educated can help make one smarter and most smart educated people are at least center left.

I know it's a shitpost, but IQ doesn't go to 250-300. It functionally tops out around 160
froz3nt@reddit
Functionally meaning thats the "profoundly gifted" range. It does go higher.
RustyCorkscrew@reddit
Sure, but not really to 250-300. The standard deviation for IQ scores is 15, and 160 already represents 4 standard deviations above the mean (i.e., <0.1% of the population). An IQ of 250 would be 10 standard deviations above the mean.
Like, yes, if someone wanted to argue that Albert Einstein's IQ was 200+ then that would be an acceptable edge case to me. But outside of those extremely rare cases, though, I'm inclined to believe it's either just (1) inflated numbers or (2) someone being a dickweed
ostrichlittledungeon@reddit
Assuming there are 117 billion humans in all of human history (commonly cited figure), approximately 1.5 of them would have an IQ of 200 or above. To say that Einstein was one of them is ridiculous for two reasons: 1. Einstein's ideas have been read and understood and assimilated into modern physics. Modern physics has very much gone beyond Einstein, and his ideas are now taught to physics undergrads (although maybe general relativity is typically reserved for grad students?) 2. The mean is not a constant across human history. As time goes on, IQ scores have increased, leasing to constant renormalization. The 100 IQ of Einstein's time is not the same as the 100 IQ of our time.
