I just returned from vacation in Montenegro. I expected it to be like something in between Serbia and Croatia, but it felt more like Malta.
MrThrowawayperC@reddit
There's NO way Sweden is more similar to Greece than Turkiye
Particular-Highway89@reddit
I think for Croatia it would be
Bosnia
Slovenia
Montenegro
Serbia
Albania
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
Slovenia before Serbia and Montenegro lol
Particular-Highway89@reddit
Yeah ok maybe you’re right actually
RaspyRock@reddit
I disagree that Slovenia is most similar to Slovakia. You can joke about the similar name, but it doesn't translate to abundant similarity nowadays. Most similar I'd say is Kajkavian Croatia, Istria, Austrian South Carinthia/Styria and Friuli. 100 years ago I would go for Czechia and South Tyrol.
Happy-Hour88@reddit
I've only been to Maribor and it indeed looks very similar to Slovak towns in terms of historic architecture but it's more similar to Austria and far cleaner than Slovakia. It's actually even better maintained and feels more Western than Slovak towns. You can say Slovak towns aren't as neat and clean. Bratislava somehow feels more Balkan to me in terms of pavement and road quality compared to Maribor.
RaspyRock@reddit
They were both part of the KUK, the imperial kingdom of Austria. Naturally they had similar investments that resulted in similar architecture, but Slovenia is now way ahead in measures of HDI...
No-Search3016@reddit
Looks like Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia are very similar to each others. Why don’t they unite within a single bigger country are they stupid?

I’d say Greece has in common with Albania
Bulgaria with Turkey
Otherwise I’d say it’s good. Slovenias is probably most accurate, but I’d put Austria higher
dwartbg9@reddit
Bulgaria with Turkey?
tipoftheiceberg1234@reddit
Sure.
Cuisine wise they’re almost identical.
Architecture (Byzantine, ottoman, Roman)
Climate - warm, summery, sea access
Music is very similar, dance.
Bulgarian even has a grammatical tense it inherited from Turkish (the narrative) and is part of the Balkan Sprachbund as a result of ottoman contact. Bazaars and чаршии exist in Bulgaria, lots of Turkish loanwords.
Not saying Bulgaria isn’t similar to Slovakia, but it’s more similar to Turkey than Slovakia.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit
There are too much stereotypes in the Yugo countries for Bulgaria, country which has changed and it's much better than many Yugo countries like BiH for example
ExtremeProfession@reddit
Is it though? Salaries are basically the same, infrastructure in Bulgaria is still not up to Visegrad or Baltic countries standards.
Average commie block in Bulgaria looks worse than the ones in Bosnia, very few have new facades and insulation unlike in other eastern European EU countries.
And that's coming from someone that likes Bulgaria a lot.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit
BiH is a shitty country it's nowhere near the salaries the same. There are many things to be compared but BiH is a stressful place.
ExtremeProfession@reddit
It's maybe shitty politically but life continues to improve year by year, it's safe and you can have a very decent life.
Strange_Status_7690@reddit
Yea very decent life but we don't know if BiH as a country might cease to exist or if third entity is discussed to be formed. BiH is a artificial country and the poorest Balkan country along with N.Macedonia and Albania by GDP per capita, although Albania is proceeding to EU now at fast rate.
tipoftheiceberg1234@reddit
Let’s say that’s true even though it’s only true for most but not all ex Yu countries.
Nothing I wrote there is incorrect ^
GayOver@reddit
Austra sharing some words with Bosnia and lots of culture, yet, not even blueish. Also, Bosnia was under Austria for a while and even has their architecture.
Esdoorn-Acer@reddit
Austria and Bosnia do not share any culture.
GayOver@reddit
you have no idea.
Esdoorn-Acer@reddit
I most definitely do. Bosnia has more in common with Turkey than with Austria.
Divisive_Ass@reddit
Austria left some buildings and Turks left people, but country isn't similar to Turkey according to this. What bulshit is this?
Esdoorn-Acer@reddit
Bosnia was under Austria-Hungary for merely 40 years (or 10 years if we count only formal annexation) and under Ottoman rule for 400/450 years.
Not sure what you mean by “Turks left people” but Bosnian culture is influenced by Ottomans (dances, music, clothing, rituals, religion, food), not Austrians.
ExtremeProfession@reddit
Bosnian culture is equally as influenced by Austrians when it comes to food and traditional clothing (if we're talking folklore) as it is by the Ottomans, as Austrians were there in a period of huge demographic rise and national awakening. You could call it recency bias.
Infrastructure wise there are more Austrian buildings in major cities than Ottoman ones because of that very population growth, the entire railway and post infrastructure was planned by Austrians as well.
Esdoorn-Acer@reddit
Most definitely not. There is nothing Austrian about national Bosnian cuisine or traditional clothing.
Austrians did build infrastructure but they didn’t influence the culture in any meaningful way. The Ottoman influence is undeniably bigger and stronger.
ExtremeProfession@reddit
There are many elements in traditional clothing of all ethnicities in Bosnia borrowed from A-H, which is why it looks like a Frankenstein of both influences.
Enter any older cake shop in Bosnia and see what's on offer, bet you there are more Schwarzwalds, Sachers, Strudels, Boem/Bohemian cakes than baklavas and other Oriental desserts.
Stews, goulash, schnitzels, almost ALL bakery goods such as kifle and breads, heavy use of sauerkraut and sour cream are all influences from the period of A-H.
Most famous cheese production in Livno and trappist monks around the country but most notably in Mariastern monastery - all set up by A-H.
Wineyards in Herzegovina although active since the Roman times and famous in Middle Ages were revitalized by A-H from their experience cultivating grapes in other parts of the empire.
Esdoorn-Acer@reddit
Sorry but that’s simply not true.
Yes AH influenced how food was commercialized and urbanized but not what the traditional cuisine fundamentally is. It did bring some Central European dishes but none of them is considered a part of a national/traditional Bosnian cuisine. While you can find balkava, burek, ćevapi, sarma on every corner, I can promise you that NO ONE considers Schitzel, Schwarzwald, Sacher etc. are Bosnian food.
The cultural foundation of Bosnia was built over centuries under the Ottoman Empire. That’s where the core cuisine, traditional lifestyle and especially folklore clothing come from.
Pointing at cake shops or schnitzel doesn’t really prove equal influence…it just shows what got added in the late 19th century. It’s not the same thing as shaping the base culture at all.
Also your claim that traditional clothing being a “Frankenstein” of AH and Ottoman is a stretch to say at least. Most of that was already formed long before AH even showed up there.
A-H influence is there but it mostly has to do with modernisation. Ottoman influence is structural and long term. Those aren’t equal.
And 40 years vs 400/500 years matter a lot! You can modernize a place in 40 years but you don’t redefine its core traditions in that time.
ExtremeProfession@reddit
You can believe whatever you want but the average Bosnian will eat goulash and schnitzel way more often that ćevapi in their home. For me that makes it traditional and part of the cuisine.
Sure if you end up discussing the matter in some pub they won't claim it's Bosnian but they'll likely say their mom makes the best, they for sure won't say that about a wok or butter chicken.
Esdoorn-Acer@reddit
I’m sure people make it at home but that doesn’t make it Bosnian or part of national cuisine. People make home whatever is convenient. They also make pizza and all kinds of pasta but that’s doesn’t mean that’s Bosnian food.
Comparing it to wok or butter chicken makes no sense since South Asian were never occupying Bosnia.
Divisive_Ass@reddit
I've ment to say same thing. Map doesn't make sense.
Esdoorn-Acer@reddit

CommunicationNo4547@reddit
True Slovakia feels more Balkan than Slovenia for sure. But in terms of architecture, vibe, Cyrillic use and culture Bulgaria for me is closer to East Slavic than West Slavic
StevenAdamsInDallas@reddit
Funny that the least similar to us is Chad (darn flag stealers).
Yeah, Moldova is there.
lilian_moraru@reddit
Moldova is there but it suggests that between Polish people and the Romanians living in Republic of Moldova, there is almost no difference in relation to Romanians living in Romania.
Also, Serbians and Poles are supposedly more similar to Romanians than Italians.
StevenAdamsInDallas@reddit
I think it compares on multiple categories (20% is demographics, culture, government etc.)
It also factors in geography. It's not that deep. We got much in common with Moldova (we also used to be neighbors with Poland).
It's just a picture, not that serious.

lilian_moraru@reddit
For Romania:
* In relation to Republic of Moldova: relatively accurate but it should be significantly more in front of the countries with Slavic influence. Literally has the same language, traditions, food types, folklore (same stories, same traditional cloth style, same traditional dances, same traditional songs, etc).
* Personal opinion: Romania/Romanians are closer/more similar to Italy/Italians than Serbia/Serbians for example.
So, in general, it's not accurate, at least for Romania. Despite what the index percentage suggests, it seems that "geography" is the main factor in this presentation.
electrical-stomach-z@reddit
Greece is not similar to spain, it is most similar to turkey and bulgaria.
riquelm@reddit
I think we are very similar with Albania, we have similar warrior, highly patriarchal, traditional tribal system.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
Traditional tribal system is exclusive to Montenegro ,north Albania and Kosovo (maybe some Bosnian too) and a lot of these tribes share the same ancestors(pretty well documented) and of course mixed with each other.
riquelm@reddit
Yeah, Montenegrins and Albanians are genetically brothers but the language creates a huge gap, unfortunately.
Particular-Highway89@reddit
How are they genetically brothers if one are the tallest people in Europe and the others are amongst the shortest ppl🤔
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
Among the shortest is just bs
Particular-Highway89@reddit
Based on data on average male height in Europe, the shortest men are generally found in Mediterranean and Balkan nations. While European men are among the tallest globally, regions with the lowest averages—often around 172–174 cm (approx. 5'8")—include Cyprus, Portugal, Albania, and parts of the former Soviet Union
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
That is just bs ,instead of data there are some very small studies (some of them self reported height) and some graphs that puts Albanian at 175 -177cm but def not the shortest
No-Search3016@reddit
I think it’s mostly Albanians from the south that are bringing the average lower? I mean in my experience Albanians from the North, especially the younger generation are quite tall. I myself am very tall and my cousins too but ok it’s genetics here but also my other friends from the North are more like 177-180cm on average. Still I have never heard about us being “genetically brothers” I always thought they were basically Serbians/south Slavs/pretty much same family
riquelm@reddit
I mean I did a DNA test and got almost 50% North Albanian although I have no known Albanian in family, even in the past.
No-Search3016@reddit
We have been neighbours for centuries after all so I don’t think it would be that unlikely either.
For example I have got typical Mediterranean features (I live in Italy and people always say they are surprised when I say I’m Albanian as they assume I could very well be Italian) but one of my cousins (his mother is my aunt from my father’s side) is tall and has got blonde hair and blue eyes. I have always had this thought like he looked too much Slavic hahaha but his father’s side of the family is Albanian although in our society there really weren’t any written records like in western societies where you can trace back to your family tree for generations.

North Macedonia is probably a lot more similar to Croatia than Slovakia. Half of the people dont even know where Slovakia is
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
Slovakia is quite similiar to northern parts of Croatia especially Slavonia. Croats and Slovaks lived together in the same empire for centuries. Both countries are Slavic and Catholic. Many Slovaks were settled in Slavonia after its reconquest, and many Croats migrated to Slovakia while fleeing from the Ottomans. Genetically, Croats and Slovaks are also quite similar, especially Northern Croats. Slovakian Towns and cities Look almost exactly like the Towns and cities in Northern Croatia. Croats are definitely more similiar to Slovaks than to North Macedonians or Albanians.
Particular-Highway89@reddit

I've lived in Slovakia and visited Vienna, Graz, Salzburg and Maribor and let me tell you the only Balkan thing in Maribor was some of the food like burek in grocery stores. The roads there are better maintained and cleaner than those in Slovak towns. I didn't go to Ljubljana but it looks more Western than Bratislava in terms of cleanness and maintenance. More Austrian/Czech-like. Slovakia looks shabbier, I still remember the cracks in the austere asphalt pavements with grass growing from the cracks, something I didn't experience in Maribor much.

Happy-Hour88@reddit
As a Bulgarian out of the 3 countries I've visited so far Romania, Greece and Slovenia, Romania, at least Bucharest looked the most similar.
Slovenia looked the least similar. Maribor was too spotless and clean for a Balkan city. the only Balkan thing was some of the food in supermarkets like burek.
If anything some Slovak towns look more similar to Bulgarian ones somehow. They're less spotless, shabbier than Slovene towns.
Greece is also surprisingly dissimilar. It's only similar in some of the food but around the Promachonas pass the vegetation gets decidedly Mediterranean and the styles of houses beyond the border changes. The largest cities of Greece look very different than Sofia. I think in Bulgaria only some towns pretty close to Greece or Turkey like Ahtopol look Greek-like. I haven't been to Serbia yet but I think Sofia could pass for a Serbian or Romanian city easier than it could pass for a Greek one.
Substratas@reddit (OP)
Insane!!! Isn’t that just right at the border?
Happy-Hour88@reddit
Yes, indeed. The vegetation gets dryer slightly before passing into Greece but once on the other side it always strikes me as more exotic-looking. And the way Greek villages and cities look is different.
HumanMan00@reddit
For me, Greece is weird, it's like they r not Balkan according to this list. Ive been they're pretty Balkan.
Serbia flip spots between Bulgaria amd Croatia.
Substratas@reddit (OP)
Many Greeks in this sub often imply they’re not Balkan, and I believe self-identification also matters. If they don’t want to be called Balkan, they shouldn’t be considered as such.
HumanMan00@reddit
I hate to disagree with you as you are very likable but i have to.
I know of this phenomenan but IMO Greece is core Balkan. A lot of what makes Serbs Bulgarians and Macedonians different from the rest of the Slavs comes from them and the Ottomans.
It's weird to me they renounce all that.
azuratios@reddit
The majority of the Balkan things that people share here do not apply at all to where I grew up. As a matter of fact there is a very large "every day life culture" divide between us and Northern Greeks. And on top of that, you can call Northern Greece "core balkan" but also kinda the weird guy of the group.
I personally feel 100% Balkan but because I grew up in Greece not because of the place in Greece I am from. Basically just being Greek can make you undestand "Balkan" you do not need anything else.
HumanMan00@reddit
That is true but that doesnt make you non- Balkan bit makes the definition of Balkan culture broader than what we commonly see it as and especially broader than what global pop culture sees it as.
For example Vojvodina in Serbia has the same aspects that you describe, Slavonia as well, Slovenia especially.
As for Greece, much of the Balkans pre migration is impacted largely by Greek and Roman culture. It's under the layers and comes up in smaller details (like the Slavic myth adopting the three wise women of your myth into their own for example). This goes beyond the Balkans but lets stick to Balkans here.
If you take everthing superficially sure you are mediteranian but if you dig in which i think its high time we did things get a lot different.
Senninn@reddit
I dunno. I always thought we had a certain affinity with the Solomon Islands

Substratas@reddit (OP)
Lol trueee, but I still do think there’s bias from the OC too bc I don’t Albania is that similar to Croatia.
JRJenss@reddit
Yeah. From the POV of Croatia everything seems legit, and there's no Albania there, but looking from the Albanian perspective Croatia is on the list ahead of Serbia. Same thing with Bulgaria, but they're at least Slavic. I don't quite get it. If we're similar to Bulgaria, shouldn't Bulgaria also be similar to us. Instead Slovakia is there for some reason.
Substratas@reddit (OP)
The OC is likely using mental shortcuts, such as ”Were both countries socialist / commies? Yes, therefore they’re similar…” and crap like that.
I’ve noticed many people, especially in ”Western Europe”, are hardwired to think like that - they tends to overly simplify & minimize our cultures into just a small aspect of those 45 years after WW2.
ayayayamaria@reddit
Nothing man-made can be without bias. But those maps are not about cultural similarity alone (in fact it's only 20% that) but nobody seems to understand this.

With Serbia? Have you ever been to Albania, my “German” friend?
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit

Antique_Birthday6380@reddit
Well, if i were in your place, i wouldn’t comment about a country that i don’t have the slightest idea what it looks like, like in your case with Albania.
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
But i know plenty of Albanians. You dont have to visit a country to know something about it, especially in todays age when there is YouTube, Google etc. Also im asking you again, what is wrong with my statement that Albania is more similiar to Serbia than to Croatia?
Antique_Birthday6380@reddit
How can you consider yourself an expert on a country just because you know a few Albanians, while you have never even visited the country, are you okay or not?
I don’t know which Albanians you have met, but i am sure you imagine Albania as some kind of desert with a few camels passing by and a mosque nearby. You didn’t say this of course but that is your whole perception of Albania.
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
I have absolutely no idea how you concluded from my statements that I see Albania as a desert country with camels. I think you're the one who has absolutely no clue what they're talking about. What is wrong with my statement that Albania is more similar to Serbia than to Croatia?
Antique_Birthday6380@reddit
Albania is neither similar to Croatia neither to Serbia. And i will repeat it to you again, you have no idea at all what Albania is like, and unfortunately that’s how you think about Albania is no matter that if you says it directly or not. But what can I talk about with a kid like you who thinks Italy is more similar to Croatia than Serbia, a literally Slavic country like you, with the same language and the same culture.
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
Take your schizophrenia pills. I haven't said a single negative thing about Albania. I find it hilarious how you accuse me of knowing nothing about Albania and then you claim that Croatia and Serbia have the same culture which is simply not true.
Antique_Birthday6380@reddit
So why are you getting irritated and talking to me about schizophrenia medication just because I said that Croatia is more similar to Serbia? How idiot can you be to say we have no connection at all with a country where you speak the same language, you were in the same state, you have the same DNA, and then to saying that Albania is more similar to them. Albania has zero, literally zero, connection with Serbia except for what we already know about Kosovo, which are not very good stories.
And a fun fact: I have traveled in both countries, unlike you kid who never leaves his house. From Vukovar to Karlovac, from Porec to Dubrovnik, inland Croatia is a copy in every aspect of Serbia. Osijek is no different from Novi Sad or the inland villages of Croatian with the villages in Serbia, from food to architecture. Meanwhile inland Albania has no similarity with Serbia, let alone coastal Albania. So I suggest you travel a bit and stop acting like an jerk on Reddit.
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
Where did i say that Serbian is more similiar to Albania than to Croatia? I said that Albania is more similiar to Serbia than to Croatia. Ofcourse Serbia and Croatia are more similiar to each other than to Albania. Learn how to read before accusing me of anything.
Antique_Birthday6380@reddit
I’m sorry to tell you, but the education you’ve had leaves a lot to be desired.
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
Says the idiot who thinks Albania is more similar to Croatia than to Serbia just because both countries are on the Mediterranean. Albania and Serbia were ruled by the Ottomans for centuries, and that has influenced their culture and mentality. You Albanians are culturally more similar to Serbs than to Croats, whether you like it or not.
Antique_Birthday6380@reddit
Others are also saying that you’re wrong even your compatriots. You’re completely stupid, brother, stupid and delusional.
Why am I even telling you to visit Albania, you’re so chronically online that you don’t even know where your bathroom is let alone Albania.
Particular-Highway89@reddit
I think Albania is more similar to Croatia because of its Mediterranean lifestyle and culture and also their allies.
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
Both Serbia and Albania share the typical Balkan lifestyle. Strong family structures, high levels of hospitality, and so on, whereas Croatians are more distant and more Western-oriented. Many national dishes from the Ottoman era are also shared between Serbs and Albanians, while in Croatia, typical Balkan dishes like burek, cevapi, and sarma are perceived as foreign. The music in Albania and Serbia often has an oriental influence, which is virtually non-existent in Croatia. Religiously, Albania and Serbia are also similar, both countries are culturally dominated by Orthodox and Muslim influences, whereas Croatia is strictly Catholic and significantly more religious than Serbia and Albania. Architecturally, Serbia and Albania are also alike alongside modern architecture, Ottoman old towns and socialist brutalism dominate, while Croatian cities are shaped by Baroque and Renaissance styles. I know Serbs and Albanians cannot stand each other politically, but culturally and in terms of lifestyle, they are more similar than one might think.
Particular-Highway89@reddit
90% of what you wrote is incorrect. Cant even be bothered going through it
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
Nope, what I have listed are facts that anyone without a political agenda can confirm. Of course, Serbia and Croatia are more similar to each other than Serbia and Albania are, but culturally, Albania is more similar to Serbia than to Croatia.
amazingamy19@reddit
I agree.
Young_Owl99@reddit
For Turkey, I am surprised how low the scores of Greece and central Asian countries.
Yes Greece is only similar with a small portion of the country but we share lots of foods and stuff.
And with central Asians, yes we changed a lot and not going to make “We are Turkic not middle eastern” argument. But we have a language with same origin. It has to be something.
auroralemonboi8@reddit
Maybe the map creator considered only the capital region of each country?
Then it would make sense why Greece ranks so low, and why its geography is most similar to Spain, because both Ankara and Madrid are at the same latitude and have the same köppen climate classification.
SelectionStriking183@reddit
That I was thinking exactly, if you compare the capital region of each country it may make sense otherwise not at all.

Western Greece and Eastern Turkey have many things in common. This was even more obvious 15-20 years ago.
My grandparents, who were Greek Orthodox, and my Turkish friend’s grandparents, who were Turkish Muslims, acted and spoke in an almost similar way. Their morals and values, especially regarding how they raised their children and how they treated their grandchildren, were almost the same.
No-Carpenter4346@reddit
In the case of food for sure we have crossover but cultural and politically I disagree. I don’t think this is a map of food relations, in the case of Iran and Albania I’ve seen many people relate to Turkey more so.
Early-Show2886@reddit
western thrace greece, is not similar to eastern thrace, turkey?
No-Carpenter4346@reddit
Very specific scenario my friend, this map and statistics are general
Early-Show2886@reddit
and why i got downvoted yet? doesnt made sense. Well, LOL not business.
Young_Owl99@reddit
I have no word for Albania or Iran. Iran esspecially had a massive impact on what we are today.
However, Turkey and Greece is atleast as similar as Turkey and Bulgaria if not more. According to this map Turkey and Bulgaria is quite similar while Greece is different.
Substantial-Peach-90@reddit
Even talking about the food, there is an overlapping only with dishes. Overall our food is different
Reconquistaaaa@reddit
The food Greece shares with Turkey they also share with the rest of the Balkans.
Young_Owl99@reddit
True, but that doesn’t falsify my argument.
mw2lmaa@reddit
I think a map of Europe would do ... the information that countries have little in common with Papua New Guinea is not of much help.
Esdoorn-Acer@reddit
Slovenia is located in Central Europe and Turkey in the Middle East. You can literally see that on the map….
NoSync22@reddit
Tell that to somebody in Varaždin. 😄
Esdoorn-Acer@reddit
Sure, Varaždin is more similar to Slovenia but on country level Slovenia isn’t most similar country. It’s Bosnia or Montenegro.
NoSync22@reddit
Greece’s government most similar to… Estonia?
Poglavnik_Majmuna01@reddit
Croatia is definitely closer to Bosnia than Serbia and Bosnia is definitely closer to Croatia than Serbia.
Esdoorn-Acer@reddit
It is also closer to Bosnia than Slovenia.
SmartFlyNR1@reddit
I don't agree because Slovenia is not Balkan. It never was.

Demography like Czechia and infrastructure like Belgium?
I particularly don’t get the first part
tomatos_raafatos@reddit
If religion and politics are included in culture rather than demography, then maybe Czechia has some very similar gender, age, and class distributions?
Substratas@reddit (OP)
Me neither. He was high on meth when he made Slovenia’s map, probably.

This makes no sense, Turkey is way more similar to Greece than western european countries. We're neighbors and share over 1000 years of history, come on.
Pelagoniann@reddit
This is so cool, i wanna see more countries lol
AestheticJaguar-2137@reddit
Yeah lets declare turkiye apart from balkan peninsula and make it has no relation with old turkish empire states… that really makes so much sense bro yeah🤤🤞🏻🥳🧿

amazingamy19@reddit
I don’t think this is quite accurate.
Substratas@reddit (OP)
Why?
amazingamy19@reddit
The criteria are too specific for Serbia to be so high on the list for so many different countries.
And to be in almost all of them. I think the similarities are exaggerated honestly.
thatsexypotato-@reddit
I wish we were more similar to Singapore ngl
Citaku357@reddit
Who doesn't lol
papa_CLaude@reddit
OP is larping as an albanian, sad
Th3Dark0ccult@reddit
Terrible map. Why is it zoomed out to the entire world, if the relevant countries are just in Europe? Can't see shit on mobile.
Slow-Loan-9041@reddit
Saying Turkey is more similar to Iran than to Greece is wild.
Young_Owl99@reddit
It is not.
Similar food thing also happens with Iran.
Same religion.
Low freedom index…The map looks at politics and governments too.
Language similarities. Also there are more Azerbaijanis living in Iran than in Azerbaijan so if they are counted too it is even more similar.
Slow-Loan-9041@reddit
Iranian food is incredibly different from Turkish food. And Shia Islam is also very different from Sunni Islam. Freedom index I’ll give.
ayayayamaria@reddit
If you think shia islam and sunni islam are different, wait till you learn about sunni islam and orthodox christianity
St_Ascalon@reddit
Ottoman empire was also part of Turco-Persian cultural sphere. Also outside of Marmara and Aegean coast rest of the Turkey way more similar to Iran. The only exceptions are the Black Sea and Southern regions, but they also resembles Georgia or Levant more than Greece.
TechnicianTimely2879@reddit
Depends on where in Turkey you go to.
