Take a few cherrypicked examples whilst completely ignoring the slavery, indentured labor, sharpening social and religious divides, trillions of worth in modern USDs stolen, 10s of millions killed in famines, taking the second largest economy in the world with 25% share in global GDP to just 4% share. Also, you're comparing apples to oranges, India was the richest or second richest (after China) country in the world for most of history, the British took that and turned it into a poster child for 3rd world poverty, Vietnam on the other hand, was a mountainous coastal strip with no significant natural resources, so all that foreign occupation wouldn't have done anything to them anyway.
