Saw that on its maiden flight at KEUL on my way to lunch. Pulled over and shut the car off, I could not for the life of me figure out what I was seeing or hearing. I’ve never been more stumped seeing an airplane fly, ever.

You'd expect those massive radials to get the plane belting down the strip pretty fast, but when that tiny little J85 turbojet spools up it just goes from a lazy roll to the speed of fuck in no time at all.
Really shows you why modern aviation couldn't ditch piston engines fast enough once turbines became reliable.
karateninjazombie@reddit
That take off goes hard lol.
mbarland@reddit
That takeoff roll goes from, "Huh, that's kind of cool" to "Holy shit, did you see that thing?" in like 1.2 seconds.
Pappa_Crim@reddit
Wait that was real, I thought I was tripping balls
Kommer2015@reddit
is that real it looks so odd i know of the old mustang twin plane that was similar that the us navy was using after ww2
Grape-Snapple@reddit
that would be a sick ass transformer
paperairman@reddit
I have a picture of little me infront of it some where. I presume I saw it fly but I don't remember seeing it fly.
hyperdream@reddit
They should put an Otto in the other side.
SchreiberBike@reddit
That's what I thought was going to be at that link.
Apexnanoman@reddit
Ok so clearly someone with both a pilots license and engineering degree developed a functional meth addiction.
er1cAtWork2@reddit
I swear I’ve seen this plane flying at an airport show. But I haven’t been to an airshow in 15 years (unfortunately). Am I misremembering or was this around back then?
dmr11@reddit
The Yak-110 was first conceived in 2016. You may be thinking of the Jet Waco, which is a red-painted biplane with a propeller + underslung jet engine that performed at air shows during that time period.
er1cAtWork2@reddit
That may be what I remember. Thanks! The time Frame Seems close As well…
Zcube73@reddit
I hope this thing is running contra rotating props
looper741@reddit
You mean counter rotating, and no, they’re not. However, both engines do rotate opposite of most propeller engines because they’re Russian.
GrownHapaKid@reddit
What’s it like on a single engine?
TacTurtle@reddit
Jet, prop, or other prop?
GrownHapaKid@reddit
Critical engine
SpruceGoose__@reddit
The question is: Why not?
Tasty-Fox9030@reddit
So this is the flying equivalent of a monster truck huh?
SpruceGoose__@reddit
Preciselly
weaseltorpedo@reddit
Saw this thing AND the jet Waco fly at an airshow (same airshow but separate demonstration), it was AWESOME
SpruceGoose__@reddit
The jet waco is awesome too!
chitochitochito@reddit
Was going to say this reminded me of the jet Waco Jimmy Franklin flew. I will never see another airshow like the Masters of Disaster at 2004 at Oshkosh, but this comes close.
LightningFerret04@reddit
I’ve seen this aircraft twice, once at an airshow and another time overhead!
Annual-Advisor-7916@reddit
At first I thought that's just a small jet engine like on that Rich Goodwin Pitts, but no that's a GE J85, the engine from a F5...
Bellanzz@reddit
Why?
DreadnautVS@reddit
Because Dell is awesome and creates cool things :)
AverageAircraftFan@reddit
Same as the Jet Waco, its cool!
AreWeThereYetNo@reddit
I was going to say “because Russian” but that is not the case. So I’ll settle with “because why not?”
AlbinoAkon@reddit
Any more info on this..?
aka_Handbag@reddit
What would you like to know?
