Why don’t we have a “perfect” battery yet?

I was looking into battery tech recently, and one thing stood out.
We’ve made a lot of progress—better performance, better efficiency—but there’s still no “perfect” battery.
It seems like every improvement comes with a trade-off.
More power usually affects lifespan.
Better performance often increases cost.
So even though batteries work well for phones and smaller devices, scaling that up (like for EVs) is still challenging.
Curious what others think—
is it just a matter of time, or are there fundamental limits here?
