I need honest answers about building a Pentium D

I was in the market yesterday and found some stuff and did a post but awaiting mods approval, does a Pentium D count as a part retrobattlestation? I found ton of Dell PC with it that I could refurb with GT730 GPU but would it count though? (I do wanna relive playing FEAR on older hardware)

A Pentium D is alright, it definitely can handle fear with something like a 9800 GT. Though I'd check to see if that dell can take a core 2 chip of some sort, you will feel the trademark netburst pipeline stall when using the PC. The only reason you should stick with one is if the pc can't use core 2 chips, like my old IBM Lenovo thinkcentre.
There's a reason I built an AM3 xp machine, the hitching got to me. Even a low end athlon 64 X2 blows the doors off the Pentium D.

Funny it's almost retro, my main daily machine is an old am3 phenom II x6 1055T lol. But I run Linux Mint on a sata ssd.

Currently i have found several Dell Pentium 4 and Pentium D pre-built but I did find a Core 2 duo somewhere so I should be able to get it

Check if those Pentium 4 and d machines can take a core 2 duo, it isn't a big job change the CPU, if they can't or you don't want to, get the Pentium D, it won't be better than a Pentium 4 but it'll help with multitasking.

This or look into getting an Athlon 64 (especially an X2) system. You can still use 32-bit XP on it and you'll sidestep the netburst delay.

Pentium D is ok for retro , certainly fine for fear . PCI express makes graphics easy. Gt730 wouldn’t be my first choice but should work fine it’s way higher performance than fear 1s hardware requirement
