I've gotten hooked on Solitaire again lately. Is it just me?

I used to love playing Solitaire back in my 20s—didn't matter if it was with an actual deck of cards or on a PC.
It's super handy that I can just play it directly on phone now.

I play a lot of cribbage the last few years
RocktacularFuck@reddit
I’ve been hooked on dominos

The last 5 years of my parent’s marriage consisted of my silent generation dad coming home from work, eating dinner and going into his study to play solitaire for hours.
I love video games but man that sticks with me. Dissociating is such a thing in my family.
Pragmatic_synic@reddit
I play ever day the last 672 days. About 5 games a day. Draw 1 im a little nervous-superstitious to stop.

Freecell yes, normal solitare just isn’t as fun. And just trying to download a playable solitare or freecell game on a phone is a pain in the ass with ads.
Top-Order-2878@reddit
If you are android potato jam has a very playable solitaire. Not the prettiest but no ads and has easy/hard mode and 1 or 3 card options.
I had the hardest time finding a solitaire with no ads and actually random decks. Most seemed to only have decks that were solvable. For me at least the rarity of winning is part of the charm.
saposguy@reddit
Back in high-school I either had a paperback in my pocket or a deck of cards. I still have a deck in my work/travel bag

Wait until you discover Balatro.

I was trying to remember what we were doing before the Internet and this reminded me.
Zealousideal_Debt483@reddit
if you like this, try Balatro

My mom taught me Solitaire when I was around 8. Loved it so much that she bought me my own deck of cards and a book, "150 Ways to Play Solitaire" that Christmas. I still have that book, too.
I also have a couple "Solitaire Collection" games for the Nintendo DS and 3DS. I loved those games during long commutes.

Solitaire and Maryjane are essential for coping with menopause. These 2 coping mechanisms, are best for everyone's safety😆.
arawnsd@reddit
It’s my go to on planes. Simple, slow, non stressful and kills time.

Nope.
jthmniljt@reddit
Wow. Me too. And I never liked it for years!!!! Seriously even using real cards I never played because I didn’t like it. But suddenly this year I started playing on my phone ……. It’s not just me?
berkeley_solipsist@reddit
I've been playing this one for years now.

LuceLeakey@reddit
I spent many months working through every single game on this website until I had won them all at least once. https://worldofsolitaire.com/
When I was a kid I'd play solitaire with real cards, but this is so much easier!
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
Looks like I’m dealing with a Solitaire master over here!
LuceLeakey@reddit
OMG! It took me forever. But it's a mindless way to keep my hands busy during boring work meetings or when I'm watching TV. In

Good workout for the brain, enjoy solitaire
egordoniv@reddit
Never played it, but my 72 yr old mother has always been a fan.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
Well, I’ll be! I think your mother might just be the most seasoned Solitaire player I’ve ever met.
Affectionate-Map2583@reddit
I'm partial to gin rummy and canasta against fake computer people, myself.
housevil@reddit
It's not just you.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
It’s so great to see that Solitaire is still going strong after all these years.
winterneuro@reddit
If you're interested in card games and interested in something a little newer, check out Balatro. But I warn you - it's addictive.
calmneil@reddit
Wait.. Me too klondike expert level now. Played last in july 1991, windows ver 3.0,working the boring night shift then. Wow, more than 30 years ago, along with broderbunds prince of persia 1 by jordan michener.

Gosh, time sure does get away from us!
HaloTightens@reddit
I play a little every evening. It’s relaxing.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
It’s the perfect way to take the edge off before hitting the hay.
Onehundredpercentbea@reddit
4-suit Spider solitaire has been my best strategy to emotionally pause and regroup since my parents have been doing the slide into assisted living and hospice. In my mind it's like a set of small zero-stakes solvable problems, which feels really soothing in a sea of high stakes unsolvable problems.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
I hear you. It's so important to just decompress and let brain go blank.
ScottishCrazyCatLady@reddit
Helps me off to sleep every night.

i admire how you've embraced the large print version.

Spider solitaire
PsychologyNew8033@reddit
I was playing with actual cards quite a bit this past winter.
tommymat@reddit
Same here - gives me a break from the screen and also forces you to pay attention more.

Ahhh solitaire. It represents the joy in just doing things alone nowadays
itizwhtitiz72@reddit
I play solitaire on my phone daily♥️

My grandfather taught me, it feels peaceful. Gen x thing.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
I'm so happy you're enjoying a nice game of Solitaire.
TimotheeOaks@reddit
When I was young solitär war my go to game. Easy with a deck of cards always at hand. Espcially on holidays. Still have a deck of cards at home just for it.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
That's just one of those things only our generation really gets.
Inevitable-Lock5973@reddit
Not Solataire but Majong
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
I tried playing Mahjong a while back, but it was a little hard to wrap my head around😿
jpetersell@reddit
Harp. It’s double solitaire. I lose hours sometimes.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
It’s ridiculous! A hand of Solitaire only takes a couple minutes, but I'll play a few rounds and suddenly two hours have totally flown by.
Habergeiss@reddit
My father used to play it on his windows pc like crazy.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
This game is way too addictive😂
ExcellentHorror9025@reddit
I have one on my phone that I play occasionally but I have to turn the wifi and data off when I play since the ads are so annoying
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
That is such a great idea! I swear, the ads these days are just getting out of control.
PossibleDiscipline90@reddit
I love that my sons can play all the rpg type games but can't figure out solitaire. I feel like a solitaire grandmaster lol
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
I know, right? It honestly feels like kids just don't have the patience to learn card rules.
Playful-Park4095@reddit
I'll play it on planes or trains on occasion. If usually rather read.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
They're both good ways to kill some time.
Ok-Limit-9726@reddit
You let the old man in
Sorry
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
Yep, I've just accepted my fate at this point😂
servantbyname@reddit
Love solitaire, but more importantly how'd you get the large font??
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
I rarely see solitaire games with font options or a senior mode, which they really need to fix. The apps I play, like Solitaire Tycoon and Solitaire Smash, have pretty big print, so I'm fine with my glasses. A friend suggested playing on a computer or tablet where I can see perfectly—solitaire.com and solitaired.com are both great!
Wynnstan@reddit
Have you tried /r/DailySolitaire/ ?
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
Yes! I joined this group and can't resist playing every time I open Reddit! But honestly, I mostly play on apps like Solitaire Tycoon and Solitaire Smash—I just love collecting all the rewards!
WhatTheHellPod@reddit
MS Solitaire is the only game on my phone.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
Solitaire is just so addictive🎉
Naive_Product_5916@reddit
I showed some kids how to play it with cards and they didn’t believe me.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
Kids today are all about short videos and social media, so sitting still for solitaire is probably a bit of a stretch for them.
Plainsdrifter71@reddit
The classics never let our generation down!!!💯
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
Solitaire is a total classic for our generation!
SafecrackinSammmy@reddit
Its good to keep the brain sharp
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
Oh, absolutely! It really does work.
EmpireCityRay@reddit
I never understood how to play it.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
Basically, you just stack the cards down in alternating colors—red on black—until you can build all four suits from Ace to King up in those top piles.
CygnsX-1@reddit
Solitaire and a word search game on the phone are how I keep myself distracted mostly.
Fair_Cabinet4867@reddit (OP)
Turns out it's not just me. They sure do help pass the time.
