Some Recommendations for Upgrading From My Ryzen 5 2600?

Hello! I am not exactly well-versed in PC building. I had a friend who builds computers (practically for fun) let me buy a PC off them a few years ago. Now I would like to make a few upgrades to allow me to play more current games and have some fun with some VR without excessive lag.
(Tell me if I need to add additional information!) Baseboard: B450 AORUS PRO WIFI Processor: Ryzen 5 2600-Six Core Processor, 3400 Mhz RAM: 16GB (Yeah I know, planning on upgrading to this to 32GB) Graphics Card: Radeon 5500 XT
So, from my (admittedly) basic research and understanding, my biggest issues seems to be the memory (planning on just getting DDR4 16x2, anything much better seems out of my price range right now) but the solution to that is obvious. My question is, what CPU would be the best price for value upgrade in the $200-$300 range that would still work with the motherboard? As long as I can get at least 60FPS at 1440p at medium graphics, (or low graphics if it doesn't look horrible) I'd be happy! Also tell me if upgrading my graphics card would be worth it.
Thank you!
tl;dr: Best value for dollar upgrade for the Ryzen 5 2600 that's around $200-$300 USD that works with the B450 AORUS PRO WIFI motherboard (Socket AM4 I think?).

Wait for the 5800X3D 10th anniversary edition, and a 9060-9070xt gpu if you can afford.

Just seconding what the other person said about upgrading the gpu first out of everything. Your CPU while not incredible today has held up shockingly well. In an ideal world everyone here would be screaming at you to save up a bit more to get a 9060xt 16gb which msrp’d at $350 as the perfect upgrade (note the 16gb and NOT the 8gb version). However, they are now more than $430 with the current memory crisis which is obviously way out of budget. Your next best bet is either a new B580 12gb or a used card like a 6700xt.
Future: next upgrade is your CPU which you will want to save up for at least a 5600. Despite the price do not waste your money on a 5500 they are an abomination of a cpu and are priced accordingly
Future future: I’d expect that by the time 16gb of ddr4 is drastically holding you back you’re probably looking at a complete new build
Final note: if your system is running on a HDD instead of a m.2 nvme drive that should also be a main priority it’s life changing

honestly, the gpu is also very slow and would definitely require an upgrade as well. just upgrading the cpu alone with this setup won't really provide any substantial improvements.

would you prioritize upgrading the cpu or gpu or ram? or would it be required to do multiple at the same time? Also any recommendations for an upgrade to the GPU in the $200-$300 range?
According_Spare7788@reddit
i would prioritize GPU first, then CPU, then RAM.
At 200-300, something like a used rtx 3080 if possible or a rx 6700 xt.

No issue with the ram, that’s enough, i would consider both changing the gpu and the cpu under that budget, you could get a 5600 for like 120-140 and a 3060 maybe, or a 2070, 6800 with the 180-160 left, this would make your pc capable of doing much more, especially VR

Thank you for the response! Question though... Are the numbers GPU or CPU?
