Best Area to Cheaply Live Temporarily Without a Car?

I'm going to be digital nomading/moving abroad. And one of the major tips before expatriation is temporarily moving to a no income tax state to avoid future tax issues. Especially if you're originally from California.
So before moving abroad I want to live for a short time somewhere in Texas to properly establish residency. Someplace with cheaper rents (whether rooms or whole apartments). An area survivable without a car (Uber, transit, walking). Someplace within transit or reasonable Uber of an airport. Does anywhere in Dallas fit that description? Or do you have an idea of somewhere else in Texas that does?
Any information is appreciated. Thanks
Ps. Before anyone says South Dakota and 1 day residency I'm aware. But I want to do it in Texas for the mail forwarding service I plan on using.

You can find a cheap room / garage apt / MIL type apartment in Irving, Euless, Coppell, Flower Mound, Arlington, etc. About 10 minutes from DFW. Not much if any public transportation tho - Irving maybe the exception.
I'm renting a garage apt in Irving now - $800/ month bills paid. 10 minutes from DFW - 10 minutes from Love - 5 from Las Colinas - 10-15 from DT Dallas.

How do you find apartments like this?
cfbswami@reddit
Facebook - CL - Roommate sites...
Main thing is to place your own ad, and search for ads every day.
Think about it, how many people have great houses they can't afford. How many travel a lot, and would like someone there watching their stuff while gone. How many lil' old ladies would kill to have someone to help them around the house a bit (for reduced rent)....
I've even knocked on doors "hey would you rent that great apartment in back?"
Unfortunately - scammers work these sites, especially CL. You have to be careful....

Maybe look up the maps of DART service locations and use that to find an area that makes sense for you.

What’s cheap to you? It’s kind of hard to make suggestions without knowing your budget, cheap is relative. Not trying to be rude just helpful!

I get it. I guess I mean cheap for the area in general. And since I'm open to just rooms too its a wide range. 1200 or less? I wont even be staying there a lot more than likely.

Mockingbird station is good for that but youll need a roommate. I did a year there without a car. Its a PITA in Texas to not have a vehicle but that area made it do able.

Would a roommate situation work?

Shared house/apartment yeah. But the key is what I described above. Reasonable distance to airport and survivable without a car.

Anywhere in Dallas area will be accessible to airport & Uber.

Lower Greenville, Old East Dallas area

Downtown Dallas is likely your best option price and transit wise. Can also look around other train stations like Victory Park, Cityplace/Uptown, and Mockingbird
