Whose mother brought this object out of the cupboard for special occasions?

Mine did whenever she had the neighborhood ladies over to play cards or mahjongg, or if family were visiting. The rest of the time she endured ... instant coffee. shudder

I have no memory of my parents making coffee other than instant growing up. It ruined me for coffee until I finally tried the real thing decades later. (Now I drink way too much lol)

I really don't get the instant coffee thing. My father didn't drink coffee, but I know for a fact that my mother drank instant coffee at least until the 1990s. And yet, according to this website I found, electric drip coffee makers have been around since 1954!

Our percolator came out on special occasions. Otherwise my mom drank instant.
I've mentioned a couple of times that my dad was the national sales manager for Carnation company. So we also had this massive industrial size hot chocolate maker! And of course lots of carnation hot chocolate to fuel it with. I have very fond memories of going sledding when we lived in bucks county and all the neighborhood kids would end up at our house afterwards and we would have hot chocolate and s'mores.
Fond memories of good times.

Years ago, our family hosted the annual easter egg hunt in our neighborhood. roughly 50 kids all fighting for chocolate filled eggs that we hide around the wooded area in front of the house. Adults got coffee and dunkin donuts on the driveway while they watched the kids go full on feral. It was always a hit. Coffee pot was a 24 inch percolator w it was the only time i ever saw it out and I still shudder when i see them because I as the oldest had to clean it after it cooled down before it disappeared for another year.

The old church coffee pot is what I called it. I have one as well. Picked it up at a garage sale for a buck. I put it in the hunting shake so when the group gets back they have something hot to drink.
