Do you know what the term BFE is? Is this part if Xennial culture?
Posted by abbydabbydo@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 153 comments
We always said Butt F@$k Egypt/BFE. Sometimes Butt F@$k Nowhere, but without an acronym.
Is this generational? Or maybe just localized? I use it sometimes in comments in other subs and people don’t know what it means.
Also, anyone have any clue where it came from?
Additional-Paper6805@reddit
I’m from Florida and BFE means Bum Fuck Egypt 🤪
Electronic_World_894@reddit
Never heard of it. Maybe it’s regional?
Lady_of_the_Shadows_@reddit
Im my area well called it Bum fkd Egypt.
THRSALWYSNXTYR@reddit
I like how you provided zero context to what that phrase even means lol. Here i was thinking it was a sex term
abbydabbydo@reddit (OP)
Ha! You’re right! Sorry.
delldarlin@reddit
Bumfuck Egypt. If I had to guess I'd say it's more X than ennial.
Never understood what Egypt had to do with anything though
Ralliman320@reddit
Probably because it's about at the halfway point between here and Ape Shit Asia.
abbydabbydo@reddit (OP)
Right? That’s why I’m asking where it came from.
NoExam2412@reddit
Probably not the source...
But Southern Illinois is known as Little Egypt because of how the rivers meet and form a delta similar to Egypt. You'll note, the southern most town in Illinois is named Cairo. You'll also note the mascot of Southern Illinois University Carbondale is the saluki. The oldest breed of dog in the world, and an Egyptian dog.
Southern Illinois is more Southern than Louisville, Kentucky. By latitude, it's below the Mason-Dixon line.
It is possible, Chicagoans considered the 7 hour drive down as butt fucking Egypt.
But, no idea.
Anyhoo, I said BFE all the time growing up, but I lived in the BFE.
Also, it was Butt, not Bum. We were not polite society.
abbydabbydo@reddit (OP)
I like your stretch there. Could be!
DustyScharole@reddit
If I had to guess it's because Egypt is far and is in the desert with not a lot around (back then, Cairo is huge now). Probably just a better ring to it than "bum fuck Tunisa" or "bum fuck Libya"
Independent_Toe5722@reddit
This makes sense. “Egypt” being far and kind of mysterious is how the slur for Romani people came about.
We used to use Timbuktu with a similar meaning.
BalrogRuthenburg11@reddit
Interestingly, we said butt fuck Africa in my area of Chicagoland. Never used the acronym BFE though.
shewholaughslasts@reddit
Ooh! We said both BFE and I thought it was bum fuck in the north burbs of Chicagoland.
redbess@reddit
Midwest, it was Bumfuck Egypt, but I also heard East Egypt, at least in my family.
ughyoujag@reddit
Bum Fuck Egypt
Not butt fuck
queenofcaffeine76@reddit
I'm from Florida and we all said it stood for Butt Fuckin Egypt
Hntrbdnshog@reddit
Florida too and that’s what we said too. Almost always just BFE though. My wife and I say it all the time.
CosmicTurtle504@reddit
Correct. Dash Rip Rock even wrote a whole damn song about it!
ladybug1215@reddit
It was definitely “butt” in my area. Bum would have been someone trying to sound British. No idea if it’s still used though.
ChicagoRex@reddit
We added -ing to fuck, so Butt Fucking Egypt.
ladybug1215@reddit
Yeah, come to think of it that was the most popular form where I was too.
Canacarirose@reddit
After Orgazmo came out it did have a good run of being “assfucknowhere”
ughyoujag@reddit
That movie is a blast from the past!! 🤯
abbydabbydo@reddit (OP)
Ooh. I like that
Rubik842@reddit
That's what she said.
ughyoujag@reddit
Canacarirose@reddit
And the run of “bunghole nowhere” during the beavis and butthead days
jaymoney1@reddit
I also took Bum in this context a as in a homeless person or panhandler, not British butt
taleofbenji@reddit
You draw a distinction between getting fucked in the butt and getting fucked in the bum?
ughyoujag@reddit
I think it’s cultural
bradfo83@reddit
It was always butt fucking Egypt when I was younger. Midwest.
ughyoujag@reddit
Aught_To@reddit
I mean... semanticly.. what's the difference?
ughyoujag@reddit
I don’t know. Butt fuck just jars my ear because it’s sexual and I’ve never heard it used in this phrase. We’re allowed to say it differently though!
sfcameron2015@reddit
I always thought it was bum as in “hobo” not bum as in “butt”. 😂 I can’t be the only one, right? Right?!
ughyoujag@reddit
Yes, that’s how I once used the word bum. Now I use hobo because it’s folksier
she-dont-use-jellyyy@reddit
And "bum fuck" doesn't sound sexual?
Stratospheric-Ferret@reddit
In the UK if you say "bum fuck" it's definitely sexual.
dfibslim@reddit
Maybe in Europe
ughyoujag@reddit
Not when combined with a remote location
gridlock1024@reddit
Yep, always Bum Fuck Egypt
jackytheripper1@reddit
Same
Solid-Hedgehog9623@reddit
Short for ‘bumble’ in my neck of the woods.
Medical-Purple@reddit
It has been used equally in my household
redditydothis@reddit
Yes it was bum fuck Egypt. Central California.
ResurgentClusterfuck@reddit
Yep and my mom tended to use the phrase
It was right across from the ass end of nowhere
Moxie_Stardust@reddit
This is how I heard it first, I think it was the later 90s when I started hearing BFE as an acronym.
Rubik842@reddit
Bumfuck Nowhere is the term round here.
Back of Bourke is similar, used in polite company, They mean the area to the west of here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/SRVpguBwFPXvwqXD9
BreakfastBeerz@reddit
Did you abbreviate it "BFN"?
We rarely, if ever said "Bumfuck Egypt" and just said, "John lives out it BFE". We just all knew what BFE meant.
SanSanSankyuTaiyosan@reddit
We said Bumfuck Nowhere in PNW (Canada) as well. Also “bumfuck all” to the question of what you were up to.
abbydabbydo@reddit (OP)
Interesting and much more civilized
_Asshole_Fuck_@reddit
“Yeah man, we were way out in BFE.”
primordialforms@reddit
We said East Bum F$@k
Hot-Ad930@reddit
Same
SeaworthinessNo4647@reddit
We'd say East Bumfuck. Egypt was never part of it lol
Hot-Ad930@reddit
Same! Grew up in western ny
Hot-Ad930@reddit
We always said East Bumfuck
sjp1980@reddit
Butt fuck Idaho.
That was the one I was familiar with growing up in New Zealand. Why Idaho? I have no clue. Was it related to a movie?
Clem_bloody_Fandango@reddit
Oh, yeah, I remember this slight variation. I mostly heard B F Egypt in California, but occasionally Idaho.
If I'm late because I had to park far away I still come in saying "Sorry, I parked in Egypt."
More-read-than-eddit@reddit
Never heard anything like this around nyc/northeast
nahmahnahm@reddit
Same. I hadn’t heard the term until I moved to the middle of the country. In the Philly area, we said Bumblefuck.
fyrefly_faerie@reddit
Same in downstate NY. But in front of adults, we would say the “Boonies”.
Minotaar@reddit
Near Philly, definitely heard it, but never as an abbreviation. Just bumfuck Egypt. Also East Jabib latched on for me.
CaptServo@reddit
in CT it was either East/West Bumblefuck
zismonger@reddit
Same- east bumblefuck came up at times. What’s with all the f@ckin’ censorship? Isn’t this a xennial sub…
PetulantArmadillo@reddit
New Jersey suburbs here. Growing up, older folks said East Bumfuck.
mrdon83@reddit
Upstate NY and we never said anything like this. If you were in the middle of nowhere, it was "the boonies," "the boondocks" or "the sticks."
When I was a teen I met a person in an AOL chat room from Arizona who used the acronym "BFE" and I had no idea what they were talking about so I asked about it. They explained the acronym as "butt fucking Egypt" and that's the only time I've ever heard it used untill today.
JamesBuffalkill@reddit
North Jersey here, absolutely clueless.
GStarAU@reddit
Aussie here. I've heard it a few times, and some variations... sometimes I've heard people use "the arse end of nowhere".
Just imagine that with a Steve Irwin-style Aussie accent 😉
sjp1980@reddit
Arse end of nowhere and woop woop.
In NZ we also said "the wops" and "the boondocks" and "back blocks".
Oh in case anyone wondered, "wops" or "wop wops" has nothing to do with the similarly spelled slur with a g at the end. Just in case anyone was wondering if I misspelled something.
coachlasso@reddit
I always heard it as bum fuck east or east bumblefuck
teriKatty@reddit
Apparently that wasn’t slang where I lived because I never heard it before.
seriouslynope@reddit
I thought it was bumble fuck Egypt
Zargoza1@reddit
Yeah, of course.
You go to the middle of nowhere, turn left and go about 15 more miles and then you’re in BFE.
Cozy_Minty@reddit
Another use of the word buttfucking, was lighting a cigarette with another cigarette. I dont know why we called it that or why we apparently like buttfucking so much
BalrogRuthenburg11@reddit
We called it monkey fucking in our area of Chicagoland. No clue why.
MockeryAndDisdain@reddit
Because being uncircumcised was still wildly unpopular at the time. We weren't yet blessed with the beauty and the glory that is Docking.
In this blessed year of our Lord, 2026. Cigarettes no longer buttfuck, which is a Sin, they Dock. As the good Lord intended.
nighteyes_fitz@reddit
I'd never heard the term butt fuck Egypt or bum fuck Egypt until I joined reddit. Bum fuck nowhere we use regularly. So no I haven't heard it being abbreviated before or if I have I didn't know what it was.
herseyhawkins33@reddit
Bumblefuck, bumfuck or bumsville Idaho. We didn't use any abbreviations.
littlemama9242@reddit
I had to look through the comments to know what BFE even meant. Im in NY and we would say East Bumblefuck
Snarktoberfest@reddit
BFE has always been Bum Fuck Egypt.
Also, East Jabip, The Boonies, Middle of Fucking Nowhere, The Sticks, Way out in the country, The Forest,... All I remember right now.
SunshineInDetroit@reddit
Butt fucking empty is what I remember using
JackBlackBowserSlaps@reddit
Nowhere, yes. Never heard the use of Egypt.
alwaus@reddit
Welcome to bum fucked egypt, now entering the middle of.
Automatic-Arm-532@reddit
Where did this term come from? Do they really like anal in Egypt or something?
Expert-Housing-8488@reddit
East Bumblefuck
shinysquirrel220701@reddit
Bumblefuck Egypt,
6millionwaystolive@reddit
Yes, this is how I remember it being said
6millionwaystolive@reddit
We said "Bumblefuck Egypt" around here
Ossmo02@reddit
Used here still to this day, the acronym at least.
Citycrossed@reddit
I grew up in eastern Ohio where there is a large undeveloped area called Egypt Valley - it was strip mined decades ago. I always assumed Bum Fuck Egypt referred to Egypt Valley as there’s literally nothing out there. I got to college and someone said they had to park in BFE and I said “oh, you know where Egypt valley is?” Omg, they looked at me like WTF. It was a TIL moment for sure.
drainbamage1011@reddit
BFE/Bum Fuck Egypt/Butt Fuck Egypt/East Buttfuck/East Bufu/East Bejeezus/The Boonies/The Boondocks/The Sticks.
All were used interchangeably, depending who you talked to. Cincinnati suburbs.
Mo-Cance@reddit
Little town in Ontario, we always used to say butt-fuck Idaho.
Somethingisshadysir@reddit
This is not a term I've used.
s-multicellular@reddit
It was Bum where I grew up and the Egypt wasn’t exclusive. You would add Bum Fuck ____ for anything that seemed fitting when you were really lost somewhere.
yowza_wowza@reddit
BFE - bum fuck Egypt where I grew up in the south. We still say it. I learned it from my Gen Jones parents.
jfrii@reddit
Bum fuck Egypt, yeah.
We also said east budaphuck, but that may have been more localized venacular.
Elle3786@reddit
We said BFE because we would tell people that we were from there by the time we were 7-8. We knew we couldn’t curse around adults, but that we lived in the middle of bum fuck nowhere, or bum fuck Egypt.
TestDZnutz@reddit
Bumfuck was a way to describe the middle of nowhere. Bumfuck Egypt was just adding a qualifier for emphasis, as Egypt is a far away place. Never heard of some saying "butt fuck" because it's not a literal use of the term fuck, so it sounds weird in context. I'm guessing it was misheard and repeated.
rainbwepidermis@reddit
In my area of New England it was always "east bum fuck" for the middle of nowhere
depictionofmood@reddit
Haven't heard that phrase but heard having to drive 'all over hell and half of Georgia' to find something or someone. Also recently heard having to drive 'all over tarnation' to find a location.
NextBestHyperFocus@reddit
Bum Fuck Idaho, Arse End of Nowhere, Out fuckin Woop Woop.
ReferToMeAsDonald@reddit
I recently used the BFE while talking to my college aged son and he looked at me like I was crazy until I said butt fuck Egypt and then they laughed for about 20 minutes. Although I will say, I’ve heard him use it since.
R0botDreamz@reddit
Always hears this and know it to mean something that is fae away but no idea where it originated.
airportspongebath@reddit
East Jesus. I’m not making that up, that’s what we all called the middle of nowhere when I was growing up.
Available-Past5054@reddit
Around Philly, people say East Jabip
JeffTrav@reddit
East Jabip is what I grew up saying. Should have known it was a local thing, lol. Go Birds.
BottleAgreeable7981@reddit
Extends south into Delaware as well.
airportspongebath@reddit
I’m from CNY but I grew up around a bunch of Philly folks. You guys say the weirdest shit. “Wudder”? How bout McNabb though?
human_sweater_vest@reddit
Yes we said that
Vehlin@reddit
East Jesus Nowhere is a Green Day song
nouniqueideas007@reddit
The common saying for my area was Where Jesus lost his sandals.
Weird_Squirrel_8382@reddit
We are also an East Jesus family. If you wanted dropped off in East Jesus, you better have a ride back because mommy wasn't making two trips.
abbydabbydo@reddit (OP)
Meh. I could, but I didn’t. Somebody’s gonna be upset either way.
viridiansoul@reddit
In northeast Connecticut we just said east bumfuck.
Crazy-Ad-7869@reddit
butt fu#%ing Egypt (BFE) is what we said. midwest U.S.
Thamnophis660@reddit
"Yeah, I was late so I had to park all the way over in bumfuck Egypt"
Meaning "I couldn't get a closer parking spot, sorry we gotta walk."
Here i am thinking it was an Upstate NY saying. I too wonder where it's from, a movie or TV show? Song? Because many of us seemed to consume the same media conpared to the way it is nowadays with that sort of thing.
theMightBoop@reddit
I knew it as The BFE - big fucking empty.
pinkrobotlala@reddit
We said it, and a lot of country songs say it too. I was thinking how random this phrase is yesterday
eyecandynsx@reddit
Never heard butt… always bum.
OneHumanBill@reddit
It was "East Jesus Bumblefuck" for us.
WhatTheCluck802@reddit
East Overshoe, Bum Fuck Egypt, Kingdom Come - all interchangeable terms for those kinda places, why I call them these names I do not know.
lordhumongous40@reddit
BFE was always butt fuck Egypt to me and my buddies. Why Egypt, though?
Remote_Reaction_4085@reddit
Not even!?
It's "boyfriend experience".
Dm me ladies
Stratospheric-Ferret@reddit
Is that the experience where we ask ladies to pick us up after we've been drinking?
kellyasksthings@reddit
Definitely bum fuck nowhere, never heard anything about Egypt
cyberllama@reddit
This is a very weird comments section to read first thing in the morning 😂
Anyhow, I'm Welsh so not a phrase I'd use but I'm sure I've heard Butt fuck Alabama/Alaska in TV and films
EmCoProductions@reddit
My friends and I always said “East Jesus” or “The Boonies” when taking about going somewhere more rural.
Cooper_Sharpy@reddit
Bumblefuck Nowhere
Weird_Squirrel_8382@reddit
We always called it East Jesus or North Hell. I did hear a few people say bum fuck Iowa in college though.
TheRealTheSpinZone@reddit
BFE, butt fuck egypt, bum fuck egypt used both but yes, BFE by itself. Pretty sure we also used Butt Fuck Iowa and idk why Iowa cause we lived in L.A. but I do recall Iowa being used every now and then
dfibslim@reddit
I've also heard bum fuck Idaho. Northern California.
Beetso@reddit
I have a buddy who always said "East Jesus" in situations like these. I always found that amusing.
CunnyMaggots@reddit
California and we always said BFE/bum fuct egypt.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
Nope, I’m older and we still used full words. Once the internet came around, and people would say LOL out loud instead of just typing it, that was what the kids today would call cringe.
Confident-Cellist-25@reddit
We always said Back Far Egypt if we didn’t say BFE, but we also would have been smacked upside the head for cussing. Specifically, we would say something like, “dang dude, you live way out in the BFE!”
abbydabbydo@reddit (OP)
We totally combined it with “way out in”
Turtis_Luhszechuan@reddit
I like and use "East Jesus".
WeenyDancer@reddit
Yes, and the B was butt in my circles. Slipped out not too long ago and realized no one knew wtf i was saying
pizzabirthrite@reddit
You know you can swear on the internet?
abbydabbydo@reddit (OP)
Meh. I could, but I didn’t. Somebody’s gonna be upset either way.
SubBass49Tees@reddit
There's a local business that has a street sign, and the name is Bohmfalk. For YEARS I have been tempted to make a sign that says "Egypt" in the same font and color, and stick it in the sign next to Bohmfalk to see if anyone notices.
abbydabbydo@reddit (OP)
Even just a sticker below! Something smaller that you have to be keyed in to get could make someone’s day
KeyFeeFee@reddit
Looks like I’m the only one who thought it was “bumfuck eternity” like super far in the sticks. Never heard Egypt in my life, wild
elsie78@reddit
GenX
Puffyfugu8@reddit
Hmm never heard that before
ZeldaHylia@reddit
It’s in the song up down by Florida Georgia Line and Morgan Wallen…
We just holding it down here in BFE.
🤣 We call it bumfuck, but same thing.
she-dont-use-jellyyy@reddit
Butt Fuck East where I was from
RanklesTheOtter@reddit
Serious Sam 3: BFE ironically takes place in Egypt. But there it stands for Before First Encounter. 😅
Patty_Curlz274@reddit
Butt fuck Egypt
