Need help on upgrading a Prebuilt PC
Posted by OfficialPepe@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 5 comments
I have two images with my current prebuilt pc’s specs and another from this company that could help in upgrading so I just needed help with if this is worth going through on or not. If it isn’t, what do you suggest? because I want a pc that runs ff7 smoothly with no stutters.
nvm can’t post images so specs:
current:
GGPC RTX 3050 Gaming PC AMD Ryzen 5 5500 6
Cores / 12 Threads - 16GB RAM - 500GB NVMe SSD -
NVIDIA GeForce RTX3050 6GB Graphics - AC WiFi +
Bluetooth - Windows 11 Home
Company offer for upgrade and trade in:
If you sent the computer into us we could upgrade the processor to Ryzen 5700X, Aftermarket CPU cooler, Another 16GB of RAM, a 2TB HDD for bulk storage, and a RTX 5060 8GB Graphics Card.
for $1,100
am I better off getting the parts myself and building it (I don’t trust myself with that) or paying someone and are these parts good for ff7 recommended specs?
- RECOMMENDED:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows® 11 64-bit
- PROCESSOR: AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600 or Ryzen™ 7 3700X / Intel® Core™ i7-8700 or Core™ i5-10400
- MEMORY: 16 GB RAM
- GRAPHICS: AMD Radeon™ RX 6700 XT / NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2070
- DIRECTX: Version 12
- STORAGE: 155 GB available space
- ADDITIONAL NOTES: 1080p / 60FPS (Graphics Quality Preset “Medium”), SSD Required. 12GB VRAM or above recommended to play on 4k resolution.

That's not a good deal at all. Doing it yourself would be far better.
For just FF7, your current CPU is good enough, there's no real need to upgrade it yet. What you desperately need is a new SSD because 500GB is not enough. Best to get a 2TB one but 1TB would be enough. We would need to know your motherboard model to ensure that there's an additional M2 slot to use.
The 3050 is below the 2070 requirements. I assume that you're looking at FF7 Rebirth, in which case the game has DLSS support which means that your 3050 would actually still be good to use too.
Getting more RAM is always great but again, need to know the motherboard slots and whether yours is 1x16GB or 2x8GB along with the timings. Though we could always just get 2x16GB RAM and swap out the old ones.
Here is an example list of parts to change. 2TB SSD, 2x16GB RAM, and a 5060 Ti 16GB. RAM and GPU are very easy to change, the SSD will also be easy if you have an extra slot. This would let you play basically any modern game on 1080p on High graphics at least.
If you don't want to spend that much, getting a 5060 is still a big upgrade over the 3050. Don't worry about naysayers, it's a good GPU, just that it's a bit on the pricier side.

oh sweet this is super helpful, i found out that i have a B550 UD AC-Y1 motherboard, i hope that helps... and yes i am looking at ff7 rebirth, if i wanted to work towards just having good pc specs overall but had to take a first step, what part would you recommend i get first?

Yeah you have an extra m2 slot. I would upgrade the SSD first then a new gpu (whether 5060 or 5060 Ti), then ram and finally cpu.

5060 8 gb will not age well. Highly recommend at least 12gb vram, 16gb preferred. In gaming benchmarks, a 8 gb card becomes the biggest bottleneck.

Is there a specific part you recommend? I was checking on a website in my area and it sells for 1.2k (Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 WINDFORCE OC 12GB GDDR7 Graphics Card PCIE 5.0 - 2.5 Slot - 1x 16 Pin Power - Minimum 750W PSU ) so I’m not too sure… judging by my current specs, what do you think I should upgrade?
