Any cons to using dp 1.2 cable with dp 1.4 monitor?

This is for aw3423dw, i am still able to turn on gsync (indicator shows on in game) and getting the full refresh rate so i would assume there is no issues ?

At DP 1.2, you only have enough bandwidth for 120Hz on that monitor. While DP 1.4, you can do 175Hz.

i know this was 2 years ago but does it mean that we still get like the highest refresh rate on a 1440p monitor but only for 4k monitors you get 120hz?

Has to do with bandwidth limitations. There’s a balance between resolution vs refresh rates. At lower resolution, more left over bandwidth to get higher refresh rates. Higher resolution, the reverse.

Now, we have DP 2.1 which can allow 1440p @ 480 Hz, 4K @ 240Hz and etc.
