Which is the best value GPU in my situation?

My 1050 Ti is showing its age already and struggles to run newer games no matter how much I lower settings. I've collated local prices in my country for GPUs that I'm willing to shell out money for and here are the cheapest ones i can find:
- RTX 5060: 300 USD (seems to be MSRP)
- RTX 5060 Ti 8GB: 415 USD
- RTX 5060 Ti 16GB: 550 USD
- RTX 5070: 630 USD
If you're wondering why there's no AMD GPU in this list, it's because I'm heavily reliant on CUDA for work. I can only justify buying AMD if the performance was good enough (around 9070 level) that I'm willing to forego CUDA and just use it primarily as a gaming GPU and leave the work stuff for another device.
My use case is mostly 1080p gaming and *maybe* some light VR for simracing. From benchmarks, even the 5060 can run VR for the titles I want to play but I have to sacrifice a lot of visual fidelity to run it at a constant 72-90 fps. I'm fine with constantly lowering settings though since I've been using a 1050 Ti all this time. But if it can't run VR, I'll just stick to flat screen gaming as I've always done.
My CPU is a Ryzen 5 5600G (around Ryzen 5 5500 performance). I know this CPU is weak but I got this used off of someone at a good deal and I have no plans on upgrading soon. From the GPUs I listed, the 5060 Ti seems to be the max it can go before I run into a CPU bottleneck.

What's your budget and what games/resolution are you targeting? RTX 3060 or RX 6700 XT are solid value picks depending on that!
Winter_Cod8401@reddit
for 1080p defo 5060. plenty power
Talsol@reddit
5070 being more than double the price of the 5060 doesn't necessarily mean double the performance or value, keep that in mind.
Funny-Wind4878@reddit
1080p90, for your CPU, unless you plan to migrate the GPU to future upgraded Rig, I would go for the RTX 5060 if the difference between prices of 5060 and 5060Ti 8Gb is indeed 115 $. Otherwise I would jump on that 630$ RTX 5070...
Now while the price you present for the 5070 is quite appeling, I also find the price of the 5060 and 5060Ti 8Gb the opposite, as I find the 8Gb Ti at around the price you show for the basic 5060...but prices vary... Now, if the price difference between the basic RTX 5060 and the 5060Ti 8Gb was up to 50-60$, I would go for the Ti...
AdstaOCE@reddit
9060XT 16GB / 9070 / 9070XT, unless your CUDA work is one of the few applications that actually does benefit heavily (most don't).
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
I run machine learning simulations (not the LLM AI kind) so unfortunately I do need CUDA. I'd have gone with the 9060 XT already if I wasn't so reliant on it.
DarkPhoenix1515@reddit
if you earn your keep through that work, you should probably optimize for that use-case.
do you need the extra vram/performance?
if so, get the 5070 or 5060 ti 16gb.
if not, the cheapest 5060 is the best "value for money".
if "any cuda will do", perhaps you could use your current gpu as a dedicated work machine and get a 9060.
HyruleanKnight37@reddit
5060Ti is too expensive to be held back by that 8GB memory, and the 16GB model was supposed to be $120 cheaper at $430 and not at the msrp of a 5070, which is going for $630.
Personally speaking, an $80 premium over a $550 card is much easier to digest than a $120 premium over a $430 card. So if it was between the 5060Ti 16GB and 5070, I'd go for the 5070 any day. At the end of the day only Nvidia wins and we lose, so might as well lose a little less.
Cultural-Accident-71@reddit
The difference between 5060 and 5060ti 8gb is 10-15% in gaming. No need to pay 115usd for this performance! The 16gb version is overpriced af! So 5060 if you want to save some money or 5070 if you have the money and want to sleep quite for the next few years. Consider how you still running a 1050ti I'm sure you will easy have the 5070 for the next 7-8 years without even thinking about the 12gb vram. If its true that Nvidia is working on a tech to reduce vram stream the 8 gb will last longer otherwise I see dark for 8gb cards because unreal engine become very popular and its very vram hungry tech!
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
Honestly, if the 5060 had at least 12GB of VRAM, I would've jumped on it already lol. 8GB doesn't seem a lot in modern games but when I look at Cost Per Frame data, it doesn't make sense that the 5060 always comes out on top despite its 8GB
RationalDialog@reddit
What do you do with CUDA? depending on that a 16 gb model might make sense even more so if it means you make more money then I would think bigger.

If" doesn't exist for Nvidia. You will get what they offer and in your case the 5060 is the best value you can get! I saw benchmarks in some games it beats the 3080 10gb version! I think this should say enough. Also don't forget the lanes that pcie3 and also physX not natively supported. The 5090 can't run og assassins creed black flag because it used PhysX 😅 it runs but it lags and stutter while action. Get the 5060 or look around for a 4070s for 100usd more.
9okm@reddit
Didn't they bring back physx?
Cultural-Accident-71@reddit
Nope, there is a mod that let you emulate PhysX but native support is not there. A YouTube has a video on it (zWormz) trying to run og black flag.
RegularTech575@reddit
there is actually native support, but only for certain titles now. i know at least Mirror's Edge has support currently on my 5070 Ti
Cultural-Accident-71@reddit
Do you run a legacy drivers? The only way Mirrors Edge runs smooth on 50s series is with legacy.
RegularTech575@reddit
i installed the drivers with NVcleanstall and there was an option in the “Components” section for PhysX. I enabled it there, installed the new driver package made by the program and it just worked. Perhaps it was injected by the program, I’m not really aware since I always update using DDU and NVcleanstall
Cultural-Accident-71@reddit
Thas actually very cool! I didn't knew you can use it to run on legacy. Thank you. I don't have an Nvidia card anymore but its cool to know that community takes care or it.
9okm@reddit
It's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely a shame, but it's totally workable. Just don't play at max/ultra and you'll almost never have a problem.
Soulspawn@reddit
If cuda is important maybe ram is as well, in my opinion it's either 5060 or 5060ti 16gb.
Both are massive performance upgrades, coming from1050ti, these cards will be double or triple the performance.
So it is down to you if the price difference and ram differences is worth it.

I went for the 5060ti 16gb , but if i had enough for the 5070 , wouldnt think twice about it.

ScaredLink8@reddit
I’d go with the 5060ti, seems to me your not a keep up with the jones sorta guy, so the extra vram will keep you going for a good while, how fast games are advancing wouldn’t be shocked if in a few years 8gb+ will be needed for 1080p
norm009@reddit
Get the 5060 to save money but the 5070 is probably the better option if you can afford it.
Rare-Trade443@reddit
"My 1050ti is showing its age already"
It's was an entry level card 10 years ago, wdym "already"
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
I've been surviving playing on ultra performance scaled resolutions for so long. 360p upscaled and 30-45 fps became normal for me lmao
zman6116@reddit
I’d personally look for a used 4070 or 4070Ti. Both should be right around $400-500. They are faster than everything on that list besides the 5070 and have 12gb of VRAM
XGreenDirtX@reddit
You're showing us gpu's from $300 to $630. Obviously the 5070 is gonna be the better one here, so I'll advice for that one.
Figure out your budget. Are you willing to pay $630? If no, go for the second best. You actually seem to have figured out your options quiet well already.
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
Obviously, the 5070 is better. But I just find it outrageous to pay $630 for it, especially when it only has 12GB of VRAM. Fk Nvidia lol. I'm looking for the *best-value* in terms of price-performance.
GT_Hades@reddit
$600 was way cheaper than how I got my 5070ti ~$1,011 this Feb
5070 and 5070ti are the best value in current gen, altho you won't miss a thing if you buy 5060 if you really want to save stuff
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
5070Tis are still expensive here too. They're around $1050 to $1100. 5070s are $630 to $700.
GT_Hades@reddit
Damn it is way worse
XGreenDirtX@reddit
I get how that seems stupid, however, the 5070 is insane for its price. Usually I'll point people towards and, but with the current market I feel like the 5070 is worth it.
The 5070 needs less vram, also because it will empty its queue faster. The 5060ti with 16GB might handle large texture packs better (I'm not sure, never tested it), but the 5070 beats it with a giant leap at every other aspect.
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
Yeah, 5070 usually tops Cost-per-frame charts from what I've seen. $630 just seems kinda high for what I'm willing to pay for a 5070. If it was closer to MSRP, I might consider it.
9okm@reddit
They asked about value.
mahanddeem@reddit
You need a better CPU to make your GPU upgrade worthwhile
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
I'm actually considering the 5500X3D or 5700X if enough people suggest the 5070 so I won't run into a bottleneck. For now, the popular opinion among the comments is the 5060/5060Ti. The former won't bottleneck my CPU but the latter only has a slight bottleneck.
ConjugalVisitor234@reddit
Try to find a 3060ti. Amazing bang for your buck. If you’re lucky you can find one for close to $200. May not be as good as a 5000 series, but it’ll save you a bunch of money and it’s way better than your current card.
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
I'm actually pestering my brother to upgrade so I can buy his 3060ti off of him lmao. He doesn't seem to budge though.
ConjugalVisitor234@reddit
Look on fb marketplace. I see em all the time
rucekooker@reddit
Whatever you do, don’t buy a 5070. At 1080p, a 5600G is probably only going to push around 55% GPU usage at best. I’ve seen it firsthand, I’m running a 3080 with a 5600X and it barely hits around 70% usage at 1080p in more balanced-load games. GPU-heavy titles will obviously still push it to 100%. It’s honestly terrible. Upgrading to AM5 just for better RAM pricing isn’t worth it right now, so my only real fix was moving to a 1440p monitor. No regrets though, 1440p feels like a game changer.
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
Yeah, 5070 would already bottleneck my poor CPU. I'm sticking with AM4 cause I have the RAM for it and I already got this CPU-Mobo-RAM when I bought my PC used.
rucekooker@reddit
Yeah, I’d say go for the 5060 Ti 16GB, just be ready for roughly a 15–20% bottleneck at 1080p.
If you’ve got some spare cash, seriously consider moving to a 1440p monitor. It doesn’t just help clear the bottleneck, the jump from 1080p to 1440p feels insanely good, like a completely different experience. And with DLSS and Frame Generation backing you up at 1440p, it’s honestly a no-brainer.
billybob212212@reddit
I’m going to be the outlier here and say get a 1660ti for around $100 USD. That will be a gigantic upgrade from the 1050.
GoGoGoRL@reddit
And then you’ll have to pay for a new gpu in a year or so again…
Photog2985@reddit
Showing its age already? My dude, that thing is ancient.
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
I've been playing Helldivers 2 lately and I enabled toaster mode. Everything looks like a giant blob lmao.
Exciting-Row8978@reddit
I've just now made a post about how confused I am looking for a new card but I'm a bit lost because I'm looking for a 4k 60 experience.
For you though at 1080p a 5060 8gb would be absolutely fine. Only thing I'd say is upscaling and Ray tracing have been the things that have been where the growth has been in the newer generations and if you don't need that you could probably find a 4060 or 3060 both TI second hand that would be a big upgrade and perform better for the price as a 5060 if you can't care about upscaling or ray tracing.
Bottom line is though at 1080p any lower mid range modern card will handle that easily.
For VR I used to hook up my occulus 2 to a 1070 and it looked amazing. Fallout 4, doom 3, all the native occulus games etc. A 5060 is a big upgrade on that, I've never tried it myself but my old 1070 had no issues so the lowest price card you listed should handle it fine
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
VR should be the perfect use case for upscaling because of its high resolution but I haven't seen any implementations of DLSS or FSR for VR before. But if you say that 1070 works fine, 5060 might be fine if I manage my expectations
Exciting-Row8978@reddit
Something that I think is never talked about when it comes to stuff like this is how everyone sees things differently.
I'm one of those people who barely notices any difference with over 60fps but I do notice the difference between native 4k and upscaled 4k. I haven't tried it myself but I imagine the upscaling would be even more noticeable in vr when the screen is so close to your eyes.
What do you care about and what do you notice more? If you want things to be really smooth and fluid but don't notice a slight image quality reduction then things like dlss will be great. If you're like me and even in vr barely notice frame rates but want things crystal clear then upscaling isn't as important.
I personally find better image quality more important and HATE frame gen due to input lag so I'm really not into the newer advancements in tech.
Anything you've listed though is a significant upgrade on what you had. My 1070 became a problem in 2021 and its a much better card than what you have, you really can't go wrong in terms of a modern upgrade at those prices especially at 1080p.
I also wouldn't be too worried about going second hand either for a better deal. If you can get a warranty you'll get much more performance for your money
_SirLoki_@reddit
3070-3080/ 4060-4070/ 5060 used 30** series are looked over by ai users, so tend to find them easily enough and for good prices.
rucekooker@reddit
You already have a bottleneck in 5060Ti. medium bottleneck
but still go for it i guess
HappyAffirmative@reddit
Are you willing to buy used hardware? Because there's plenty of good RTX 4070/4070 Super/4070 Ti on Ebay. Those go for around the $450-$550 mark. You'll get 12GB of VRAM and roughly equivalent performance to a 5070.
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
Sadly, I've looked at the used market and these GPUs don't exist where I live. I come from a third-world country and most people don't even have the midrange options. Highest I saw (that isn't the complete high-end like the 4080) is the 3070 which was around slightly cheaper than the 5060 I listed.
FakeJoestar@reddit
ebay ships to a lot of places if you’re able, I see a 3070 (which I have and would definitely recommend if you’re on tight budget) is able to ship to me for 190USD plus tax right now. Pretty crazy performance for the price.
Rayquazy@reddit
For ai I think the 5060ti 16g is better value than the 5070x
someonefl86@reddit (OP)
It just seems overpriced at the moment and it likely won't come down anytime soon since rumors say Nvidia is cutting down production of the 5060Ti 16Gb models. It's outrageous to pay 5070 MSRP for a 5060 Ti lol.
