Ripped off airlines today.

I was stressing over a parking spot and was trying to get turned around and held the turn for too long and ripped off both airlines. How bad is this going to hurt me?
SnooChipmunks6620@reddit
Horribly bad!!
Nah, it won't hurt you at all. It's very very common.
Recently, one of our yard dogs forgot to remove the hook ups, he got the scare of his life and ripped out the whole thing, the bar, hook points, even the lines inside the trailer all for ripped out. It was like the alien scene when the baby alien came out.

Anybody that hasn’t done this once in their career is lying. Fix it and forget it. Cheap lesson.
anxious_polarbear@reddit
I've done it with hydraulic lines (walking floor trailers). Twice.
K-Dog7469@reddit
I came in here expecting something different.
Obviously I am not a trucker.
LikwidHappiness@reddit
I am a trucker and was expecting something else as well. Spacing is important

Eats, shoots and leaves.
Blackdogtrucking@reddit
You thought Delta was charging too much 🤣
K-Dog7469@reddit
Yeah, I was hoping to learn a way to get them back.
lol_blasphemy@reddit
if you're at a truck stop, they got all you need to fix it yourself.
kell3023@reddit (OP)
They are wrapped around the tire and there’s wire wrapped around the tire too.

I had the exact same thing happen to me, brand new Pete 389, just picked her up so had no tools, that stupid air line post was held down with 2 shityy screws broke off as I was just testing 13th for the first time! Trailer locked up. Tandems got a taste of air line and reeled it in like a big fish, springs/coils got unwound so all the air lines were locked in by metal wire (unwound springs) I had to make about 25 snips with a hand held wire cutter, pulling 2 foot lengths of destroyed air-line and spring out of the skinny space of in between 2 tires. I snipped for about 45 min and finally the entire rats nest was pulled away. I actually called a Uber to pick me up roadside and bring me to nearest truck stop and back. I probably could have dropped the trailer and drove myself and let the wires spin around, but the truck was brand spanking new and I didnt want the whipping wires to damage anything else.
Wire cutters, 7/8ths open end wrench (prob get a 1" too just in case) 2 new glad hands, 2 air lines, electrical line, and a adjustable wrench in case a mystery bolt appeared. Its super easy to swap out the air lines, its just loosen, remove, replace. A electric angle grinder
kell3023@reddit (OP)
And the electrical line
Responsible_Bill_513@reddit
RIP
lol_blasphemy@reddit
they are easy to cut away, might have trouble with electrical line. if you dont feel up to it call it in to company for help. it can be a quick fix, less than 10 mins to replace.
duhrun@reddit
Self repair, it’s not hard but will cost a few hundred bucks.
RipIt1021@reddit
I've had that happen twice so far. Had my red air line decide to call it quits at the HEB PDC Warehouse in San Antonio. Their yard jockey took my trailer to the dock for me.
Second happened at a Loves parking lot. I had just busted a U-ie and both the red and blue lines have up the ghost. An O/O saw me fiddling with it and helped me get it serviceable enough to back into a spot.
Shit happens. If your company is decent, they won't bitch about it. If you're an O/O, they should have replacement lines in the store.
navlgazer9@reddit
I always carried a spare set and the electric cord too
Usually you’re not in a truck stop parking lot when this happens
First time it happend to me was in the middle of a very busy intersection
kell3023@reddit (OP)
Is it going to go on my record?
Radiant_Swan187@reddit
Yes. You know that record you've had since kindergarten? Yeah this is going right beside your booger picking. Not a good look my man. Really tho just call your damn company and they'll handle it lol. And stop over thinking life
post_mah_bone@reddit
Fleet pride sells a complete set for about $130. Takes a couple of minutes unless you messed up the hangers too.
kell3023@reddit (OP)
I did.. is this going to go on my record? And is it going to hurt me from getting local?
Crowhop11@reddit
Bro I ripped my airlines on literally my first ever load at my first ever cdl job lol. Forgot to unhook them when doing a drop and hook and remembered the moment I heard them smack against the back of the cab after they ripped apart. 9 years later, I’ve never had a problem getting a decent job lol. You should be fine unless your company is a pos. Cuz you know what I’ve done ever since that day? Triple check to make sure they’re off when pulling away 😂.
FaceWithAName@reddit
I mean unless for some reason the cops are involved this is really just a company thing. They will probably just fix it and depending on your history you will be fine.
I ripped the airlines out while I was with werner. They just replaced them and sent me on my way. Shit happens.
It only gets bad when you start fucking up other people's shit lol or completely wreck your truck, obviously
SheepherderHopeful55@reddit
Yup I ripped my airlines with Werner as well and they just sent me to a TA to get them replaced and didn't give me any shit about it
kell3023@reddit (OP)
Thanks. This is a first time thing
post_mah_bone@reddit
That really depends on you. If no one else is reporting it and you don't report it and you fixed it...did it really even happen?
kwtransporter66@reddit
Shit happens and this is just some of the shit that happens.
After the fix get yourself a kit in the truck to repair airlines. Couplers, splicers, adjustable wrenches, extra length of hose and electrical cord, electrical tape, small flat and phillips head screw drivers, utility knife and a wire stripper. Make sure your 7 pin plug has the holes marked for what color wires go in that hole.
Ok_Application_2292@reddit
175 3 in one combo and 1 hr labor. Maybe check see if you cracked pigtail socket on truck and trailer also. It happens
ApollyonFE@reddit
You ripped out your airlines in a turn? How far back is your fifth wheel slid? I've never heard of that happening before
indytrucks@reddit
My 5th stays all the way back and I still can’t fathom how this would happen. 🤷♂️
muck2profit@reddit
Shit happens,
RichCypher@reddit
If you are at a truck stop and they have a set inside just buy then and swap them out yourself and no one will be the wiser.
