Do people still make physical mood boards?

I was watching Friends earlier (since it’s always on repeat), and Monica pulled out her wedding planner which got me thinking; I never made any sort of collage or mood board, but it seems fun.
It definitely seems very old school in an age of Pinterest, but cutting out and sticking down pictures and ideas sounds so fun. It sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon.
So have you guys ever made one? Do you have any suggestions? Where do people even buy physical magazines anymore?

I recently started scrapbooking and thats pretty similar I guess

I tend to do vision boards rather than mood boards, but I’ve done them on physical paper and on Canva. I do them for fun!

Yeah lol we used to make them at school and college. you can pick up free magazines from tesco and boots and stuff. Apply for catalogues online. And magazines are... in many shops 😂 have you not noticed them? They're in supermarkets and newsagents. You can also print off pictures from online

I don’t think I have to be honest, I only ever see kid ones with the toy on the front (that I was never allowed 😂), but I’ll definitely have a look out for them! Anywhere online you recommend to order?

Honestly it depends what you want to make a mood board of? Im constantly getting flower catalogues and shoe through the door in the post

I don’t really know. A wedding one seems cheesy, especially since I’ve not got anyone to marry at the moment, maybe just cool vibes or house ideas? Or a different theme on each page

Generally mood boards are made to help you come up with or refine ideas that you already have.
Have you considered making a mood board of different mood boards? Might help you decide.

A cork board and some sewing pins work quite well.
Especially if you are working with fabric and want bits of it on there. For sewing, embroidery and similar it's great to look at colours and textures for a few days so you can make sure they work together in every possible lighting situation.

It always looked like something I’d have enjoyed but I would have felt so vain doing I couldn’t do. Like the idea of collating pics of things that appeal to me and then arranging them aesthetically on a board and showing that to other people makes me want to die. I’m 47, I’m way mentally past this being something that should be a challenge to me or if I had a couple of friends helping me sort out some huge party I can see how it would be useful to have like a reference thing for us all so I could manage it under pain of their insistence but the idea of having an evening when I could just mood board for something for me makes me cringe myself inside out. I couldn’t do it.

Oh, that’s okay! We can all like different things

Sounds more like some forced corporate wankeybollocks these days, tbh.

I’m sorry?
CumGuzlinGutterSluts@reddit
Nah their right it actually does have that, "manager is making us do this feel

I’m so sorry, I don’t understand. Do they think I’m being forced to do this? Or do they just think it’s not fun?

It's one of my favourite hobbies and it's really popular, as well as collaging look up 'junk journaling' online (it doesn't have to be actual junk, I use ephemera/magazines/stickers etc)
Just_A_some1@reddit (OP)
Yess, I really wanted to try junk journaling this year!! Bought a nice new notebook and everything, but it’s just so intimidating to start 😅
Several_Cat7155@reddit
Yeah I get what you mean! The way I got into it was just by decorating my bullet journal. I basically jotted down what did each day of the week and then after decorated the pages. I don't plan anything really so that makes it easier.
For collages I have a ring-bound scrapbook and I basically pick an image to start off with and then just add to it with whatever feels right.
I actually got a book called 'Extraordinary Things to Cut Out and Collage', it has loads of pictures just for collaging and gives some good inspiration and advice. I got mine 2nd hand but you can still buy them online, it might make it easier to get into it :)
Just_A_some1@reddit (OP)
That’s really helpful, I’ll definitely keep that book in mind! I did see those “ransom letter” letter stickers on TikTok, but I feel like that’s a little extra
Several_Cat7155@reddit
Yeah you don't really need them, I haven't bought anything like that. I made a load of stickers recently, I just searched 'journal stickers' in Pinterest and printed them out on glossy sticker paper and they came out really good, but you can just use ordinary printer paper and glue them down.

This is too highbrow for this sub.
