'Michael' - Michael Jackson Biopic

Michael, a biopic on Michael Jackson (not to be confused with the 1996 movie starting John Travolta, lol) has recently been released in theatres. Anyone seen this yet? Anyone interested in seeing it? Anyone not interested in seeing it?
As Gen-Xers, a movie about The King of Pop is not really necessary since we've all literally seen his career in real time for the most part. We're all seen him on TV, some of us have seen him in concert. A few have seen him in real-life. I remember when he died in 2009, I remember seeing the helicopter transporting his body to the coroner's office flying in the sky, and I also got to attend his memorial service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
I would guess this would have more value for younger Millennials, Gen-Zers and Gen-Alphas who might want to learn more about the guy in that popcorn .GIF meme.
The lead role is played by Jaafar Jackson - who is Michael's real-life nephew (Jermaine's son). Which is kinda weird...yet...kinda on-brand for this venture?
As for the reviews, they've been mixed. People either think this movie is real bad or real good. Though the people who say it's real good are somehow connected to the music industry, so take that as you will. I'm not as excited about seeing this film as I am for The Mandalorian and Grogu anyway.
I dunno, I'm open to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

While I enjoyed his music at the time, I refuse to line the pockets of the Estate of a person with his questionable reputation.

Absolutely loved it, just saw it a couple of hours ago.

What did you love about it?
lassita_48det@reddit
The music. Took me right back to that time period. I can remember the anticipation of the MTV world premiere videos, gathered around the tv with my family. The music and his presence were just amazing to me. Seeing the earlier stuff reminded me that this was the same person my mom had introduced me to (the Jackson 5). Just nostalgic for me.

And just wow, his nephew was fantastic! At some scenes I had to remind myself that this wasn’t Michael himself!

Does the movie touch on the controversies?
spamlet@reddit
No. The original script was basically a hit job on his accusers but they got sued over that so they basically ended the story before any of that happened.

Show us the lawsuits bot.
spamlet@reddit
lol. I linked the source.

Accuse everyone of being a bot bot?
MaximumJones@reddit
Why am I not surprised.
RandomObserver13@reddit
Sounds like a GoFundMe for people who are already billionaires. No thanks.
Admirable-Currency89@reddit
Nope, it will be crap that could have just been a Hulu movie or email or something. His life is just not that interesting. Tragic at times, yes...but who amongst us hasn't had some abuse or tragedy.

"his life is just not that interesting"
Bad bot.
Admirable-Currency89@reddit
Oh come on. I'm not a fucking bot. It's really not that interesting.

I had pretty much given up on biopics, then I saw Weird Al’s movie, which brilliantly poked fun at the most ridiculous stuff in biopics, and that sealed it. Not interested.
djauralsects@reddit
There’s usually an already existing documentary that does a better job than the biopic.
djauralsects@reddit
I have absolutely anything better to do.
Sufficient_Stop8381@reddit
Does Pepsi catch him on fire?
allaboutaphie@reddit
Ill wait tell I can see it for free..lol
zeydey@reddit
On MST3K.

I read that "It's like an OJ Simpson bio that ends with the Heisman trophy"

Not interested. We lived it in real time, and if it’s not a complete story (unpleasant parts and good parts), that doesn’t appeal to me. Very talented man, sad and heartbreaking childhood, tragic death - but why ignore the ick parts?
I didn’t know Janet Jackson was omitted from the story, I understand her not wanting to be involved though. But I was/am a bigger Janet fan than I was a Michael fan.

From what I've heard, it's a very middle-of-the-road, superficial biopic full of his music from the era in which it's set, which I understand to be mostly the 1980s with glimpses into his childhood and ending in 1989. I don't expect much beyond what the trailers have already hinted at, but I would be satisfied with nothing more than a bunch of musical numbers recreated by Jafaar Jackson and the rest of the cast.
I'll check it out once it comes to streaming.

I saw it Thursday night. Jaafar, his nephew, did a great job of portraying him. Janet is completely left out of the movie. It doesn't go into any of the controversies, his marriages, or his children.
InspectorBrief1567@reddit
Loved him in the 80's and he's, will the movie cover neverland?
dbrmn73@reddit
Can't wait to not see it. Have never cared one bit about him.
CHILLAS317@reddit
Really not interested in a PR pic that was put out to try to clean his legacy
brngckn@reddit
I saw it yesterday. It was ok. The musical parts are great - Jafar Jackson a near perfect replica of Michael Jackson. The rest of the movie is meh. Janet Jackson declined to be involved so she's missing entirely from the story like she doesn't exist. I'm not a film editor but I'd of ended the movie less abruptly. Can't hold a candle to the Bohemian Rhapsody movie.

Meh. I’ll wait until it hits streaming services.
