What does "FCK BLK" mean? & politics in serbia
Posted by Kelp345@reddit | AskBalkans | View on Reddit | 54 comments
Hello everyone i am visiting serbia and i have come across these signs. What do they mean? Also, i think i have seen some protests in belgrade so i was curious about the political situation in serbia. How are the politics going out? Are Serbian people happy with their government? Thanks.

Ma jebo vas zivot people in serbia act like corruption only exists here in the balkans and nowhere else
SuspiciousShock8294@reddit
Ignore this. Just as everyone in the world does. Poitics are shit, as they have been forever and will stay that way also forever. Belgrade is one of the safest places to visit, for people that know how to stay safe in places that they live in. Enjoy the lovely weather, meat, rakija and keep dreaming that you can actually get with one of the beautiful girls that you will meet every 50 meters while walking around this tortured city. You'll have a great time, if that is the reason for your visit. Not difficult to have a great time here while visiting, at all. Welcome and enjoy your stay.

Inevitably I see it here in Switzerland too.

Serbian students have been blocking the universities in Serbia in protest against corruption and abuse of public institutions. Furthermore citizens supporting the cause have been blocking traffic, schools, etc.
Students devised a sticker "FCK SNS" - SNS is the party in power.
The government responded with "FCK BLK" where BLK stands for "blokaderi" (people who block).
The image is of one of university buildings vandalized by the government. (yes, you read that correctly) It's government's thugs intimidating students.

It’s funny cause I hear years of Twitter accounts making them out to be “””””based””””” genocide deniers and nationalists and then you go there and everyone’s chill and it’s actually quite nice
RandomGuy1525@reddit
People tend to picture Serbians online as Russian bootlickers, reality is most people are pretty chill, only genocide deniers are the ultra nationalistic boomers that treat Vucic as the second coming of Christ

I sure hope they let them speak to the people though
liluzivertonghen@reddit
Wrong, this is the GOVERNMENT's messaging, not the students'.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
We have: students
Vučić has: students 2.0
We have: ćaci
Vučić has: blokaderi
We have: fck SNS
Vučić has: fck blk
Etc...
nkl32@reddit
He also has Fck std
branimir2208@reddit
They are supposed to mean "fuck blockaders(blokaderi)" but since our goverment thugs are a braindead retards they used BLK instead of any other 3 letter word.
ilovemangos3@reddit
is it common to use english swear words in serbia or just for the political statement?
onakos@reddit
Also worth a mention: latin alphabet is not even their "native". they not only changed the language, they are using a completely different alphabet too.
ilovemangos3@reddit
I know, I have had to look into old political serbian propoganda to finish my russian degree and haven’t done a ton of research on modern trends, but even then there was use of both latin and cyrillic
jazz_442@reddit
Not native, but both alphabets latin and cyrillic are used by people.
Zemljotaur@reddit
We use both Cyrillic and Latin alphabet equally, while only Cyrillic is require for official documents.
orphanViking@reddit
Both latin and cyrillic are native alphabets. They have equal treatment and both are official. Cyrillic is a bit more "officialer"
You learn cyrillic in the 1st grade (6-7 years old) and you learn latin in the second grade.
Emotionally latin is more tied to the "west" and cyrillic to tradition.
95% of digital communication is done through latin because phones and keyboards are easier to use the way 95% of the world uses them.
branimir2208@reddit
In both cases not so much.

RebootAndPray@reddit
People are very unhappy with the government, and government is very unhappy with the people. People get out and protest, government bits the shit out of them.
What the slogans mean is....well, you know that Borat meme?
On one side you have the government, SNS party. They are pain in my assholes.
On the other side you have the students movement.
So, students make stickers "FCK SNS" (pretty self explanatory)
Government make their own stickers "FCK STD". No comment needed.
That doesn't land well, so they make new ones "FCK BLK". Because, they call students "blockaders" because they were blockading the universities during protests. So you know. Big brain.
Students make simple stickers "Students are winning!"
Government spray paints the entire city with this crap, including "blockaders terrorists", "blockaders Ustase (google what they were if you have the stomach for it) and some other braindead slogans.
So there you go. Welcome to madness.
Kelp345@reddit (OP)

Important piece of context: these inscriptions are written by corrupt government sympathizers on the Faculty of Mathemathics building of the University of Belgrade. The Faculty of Chemistry is in the building as well.
We have reached open government destruction of higher education institutions.
Catman_192@reddit
No we aren't happy with our goverment.

fck in bulk not a little ... my brain
Magnum_Gonada@reddit
Google says " FUCK BLOKADERI", and BLOCKADERI refers to the police enforcement that try to block protests.
QuietWaterBreaksRock@reddit
Yes and no
"Blockaderi" in question are referring here to protesting students
"FCK BLK" is a cheap knockoff of "FCK SNS" stickers and graffitti or Fuck SNS, the dictatorships political party, which appeared all over the country, before the leading party started spamming "FCK BLK", because they simply can't imagine anything new themselves.
Beautiful-Dish-6275@reddit
I recently had an exam in my college, the course is called computer architecture and you do coding in assembly. The list of the nimbers your code needs analyze strats with a label BLK.
Im guessing they dislike assembly? Cant blame them.
