I loved the bit where he explains Snaps as something nobody cares about.. He's right

Everyday on this sub people post something that will completely change everything.
But no…

a) This is *canonical* and ubuntu - in partnership with nvidia/google/qwen...
b) This is literally free and open source i.e. not a scam however you slice it

It would be nicer if you simply said what this is, I'm not in my mood to watch one half an hour video to find out.
rm-rf-rm@reddit
I watched this video a few weeks ago. Yes the title is clickbait and sort of incorrect, but the content is genuinely worthwhile and personally was very enlightening. I hadnt heard about those capabilities at all. I will make a post about it as I think more people need to know about it but I recommend wathcing the video.

It's snaps for models optimized by NVidia/AMD/etc. So probably just ignore it and keep downloading from huggingface.
outtokill7@reddit
Just because it's from Canonical with partnerships doesn't mean it's going to revolutionize a damned thing. There is lots of AI dev happens on a Macbook and those people simply do not give a damn about what happens in Linuxland.
There is lots of free and open source software and I don't think anyone here was implying what you said was a scam. We just dislike posts where someone claims to say something is a massive game changer and it's probably not. Certainly not helping that it's an hour and a half long video and you aren't providing any commentary on why it's so good.
DocMadCow@reddit
I doubt Ubuntu has changed everything but I doubt it is the generic vibe coded slop that most people post daily 😄
Mrfrednot@reddit
Obsolete? Nah but its now way more user friendly on ubuntu, if I understand it correctly (I googled around a bit so I am no expert in any way or form):
1- Inference Snaps, its a one command install for both model and optimized for the hardware available 2- native driver support for NVIDIA CUDA en AMD ROCm 3-local first desktop so no online cloud as a standard (still available it you want it) 4-microcloud that is like making a network from old pcs to run a more powerful ai on a local cloud.
So its cool, takes the nerdy tweaking out of the experience and makes it more mainstream. But saying it makes other local engines obsolete is kinda clickbaity imho.
