Why is the FDA trying to ban something instead of regulating it?

If pharma companies can't make exorbitant margins off of something, they don't want it on the market.

The government uses outcomes to justify its power grab that doesn't actually care about the outcomes.
San Francisco spent $100,000 per homeless person and all that money went into donors pockets and there's more homeless now.
But people are going to keep voting for more taxes to help the homeless.
When I said I wanted to downsize government I was told I want Starving Children to die.
That's how brainwashed these people are

Talk about budget cuts and watch both major parties are in an uproar. The problem is that people actually believe government is efficient and well intentioned, when in truth they are a corrupt quagmire

It is not something that the people in power and those they work for sny money. They do however make money from prescription drugs and more so privatized jails. So they wont regulate it, just ban it. Then people will be using prescriptions or black market drugs which can be helpful for putting folks in jails.

It’s Kratom. Unsafe. It’s not an “alternative”. It is just as bad as other opiates.

It’s always about control.
Berkwaz@reddit
It’s about money. It’s always about money. Money buys power and control and gets you more money.

Follow the money then ask them

FDA is majority funded by big pharma whose main priority is making drugs expensive.
Alpha_Hellhound@reddit
This is exactly the reason. If a drug exists that doesn't work as well, but is manufactured by a big company, the FDA will ban and make illegal anything that competes with it.

Legalize heroin....
$100 worth of heroin in a legal market, cost over 5 million in this market (it comes from a flower grown by the sun)...
So for every $100 worth a junky gets, he should really be getting 5million dollars worth....
Then he could live like some white collar person with an oxy prescription ... Not a lot of collateral damage.
Laurenslagniappe@reddit
Idk there are regulated opiates, if this were to be regulated you would probably have to get a prescription and then be prescribed something cleaner.
dlham11@reddit
Because, the government wants control. That’s it.
It’s not about harm reduction. Just simply control. Always has been.
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
Because the government will always try to expand their power and control.
Remember that the FDA did not used to determine what was a prescription drug and what was OTC. The drug companies used to make that determination based on risk assessments. A more risky mediation was prescription, less risky was OTC.
And that's how it should be. I remember when things like Zyrtec and Claritin were prescription only. Now, with literally no change to the formula, they're available OTC. Nothing changed, they never should have required a prescription.
