Who's your local personal injury lawyer?
Posted by Apprehensive-Job3734@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 464 comments
I know everyplace in the US has a ton of them, but who's the one that dominates your local airwaves/billboards? Think Saul Goodman for ABQ or (IRL) Joumana Kayrouz in Detroit, Corey B Trotz in Memphis etc...
CupcakeSeaShanty@reddit
Was Cellino and Barnes (sigh). There was even a musical about how they broke up (no, really):
https://www.cellino-v-barnes.com
jsteele2793@reddit
I came for Cellino and Barnes lol!!!! Now all I can think of is Hurt in a car? Call William Mattar lolol
rottenbox@reddit
Buffalo? Or is it statewide? I'm outside Toronto and so get buffalo tv and man there are a lot of lawyer ads.
ElectricMayhem06@reddit
I'm in Buffalo, and you're right: Cellino Law and The Barnes Firm are still everywhere, with Cellino bragging about how their offices are in the Knox Mansion on Millionaire's Row. Then there's William Mattar, who's just obnoxious.
But don't forget about Hiller Comerford for injury/disability and Fiegel, Carr & Joyce for immigration/border issues.
rottenbox@reddit
And the older lady with bright hair for your sexual harrassment at the workplace needs.
I sometimes watch buffalo early morning tv since there isn't any live coverage until 6am in my area.
jsteele2793@reddit
Rochester, close enough!!!
CupcakeSeaShanty@reddit
They were based in Buffalo with offices statewide. The bulk of the memorable advertising on TV and billboards was in Western NY, but I do remember getting a chuckle seeing a bus station ad for them in Brooklyn.
ChupaMiCulo@reddit
They were(are?) also in Los Angeles.

CT - Goff Law Firm (Brooke Goff). Mike Tyson, Flavor Flav, Vanilla Ice and a bunch of other celebs/sports personalities have appeared on her billboards.

Her billboards don’t even make sense half the time.

She must be making money somehow lol

GooGooGajoob67@reddit
Real ones (old ones) remember Saiontz, Kirk & Miles.
PhysicsEagle@reddit
Dare I ask what happened to Miles?
SignificantApricot69@reddit
Was Miles the “Stephen L. Miles - Let’s Talk About it!” guy?
n0tmandatory@reddit
It was fairly short lived, but they even merged their catch phrases! “Let’s talk about it, because if you have a phone, you have a lawyer!”
My favorite was always Barry Glaser. “Don’t urinate on my leg and tell me it’s raining!”
In2TheMaelstrom@reddit
When I worked at the AT&T store in Towson Town Center we had Barry come in a couple times and he was definitely a character.
Tangentially related, we also often had Bishop Barry come in the store as well. Maybe not too closely related, but enough that I get to share this bit of nostalgia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AJFleIrQ1Y
absolut696@reddit
I have this random core memory of their dark and gloomy commercials with the flashing police lights, probably like 30+ years ago.
theniwokesoftly@reddit
My brother, as a child, asked my parents if we had a lawyer, since we had a phone.
plutopius@reddit
Haha I did that too when I was like 3! I vividly remember my mom spit out her drink laughing.
Funny thing, I ended up hiring them for a case I had last year. Used the web portal though. Wish I had called; def a missed opportunity.

tomcat_tweaker@reddit
Yeah, Misney and Tom Merriman are probably the best known. At first I hated Tom's new AI commercials, but I've grown to enjoy the sheer absurdity of them. The one where he's punching out the window of the semi is ridiculous and hilarious.

Craig Swapp and Associates. They have a huge law office on one of the busiest intersections in Boise, and ads galore on tv.
Repulsive_Repeat_337@reddit
For 50 years it was Sam Bernstein and his famous 1-800 CALL SAM commercials. Now he's retired and there are six or seven ambulance chasers wallpapering the town with billboards in a nauseating game of King of the Mountain.
Help1Ted@reddit
Morgan & Morgan.. I have a feeling this will be one of the top listed. I’m fairly sure he’s in every state, or close. But he’s actually in or I should say headquartered here in central Florida. I’ve known people who have worked there as long as I can remember.
No-Heat-436@reddit
They’re in Colorado. I’d still call The Strong Arm Frank Azar before anyone, though! Lol
MilaVaneela@reddit
Yeah, I even remember when it was Morgan, Colling and Gilbert years ago before he bought the other two out. Dude’s been around forever and the other one in central Florida that’s been here for ages is Steven A Bagen
Help1Ted@reddit
I was just thinking about when it was Morgan, Colling and Gilbert. I see Dan Newlin billboards all over as well.
MilaVaneela@reddit
Yeah, him too! I also just thought of Farah and Farah. Got several to choose from around here lol
basszameg@reddit
There’s also Bogin, Munns & Munns , who almost directly call out Morgan & Morgan in their ads. And even more locally is Rue & Ziffra.
MilaVaneela@reddit
OH MAN how could I forget Bogin, Munns and Munns?!
I’m not as familiar with Rue and Ziffra. But like I said earlier, I do see Farah and Farah a lot more.
basszameg@reddit
We definitely do not want for personal injury attorney options here in Florida! I can think of at least three other firms that haven't been mentioned.

Lol we really do! I see so many I’m basically immune to it
FloridianMichigander@reddit
Dan Newlin .. a forehead so big they have to expand billboards to fit it all.

It's Greenberg & Bederman, The Cochran Firm, or Saiontz & Kirk (if you have a phone, you have a lawyer). I don't really watch TV much anymore so I'm not sure what the ads are constantly out there.
Funny story - back when I was in college, I would work for a temp company during summer and winter breaks. One job I had was at an engineering firm called Greenhorne & O'Mara and I was filling in for the receptionist who was on vacation. I answered the phone "Greenberg & Bederman" because their ads were EVERYWHERE back then. With temp work, you're not guaranteed to stay at an assignment even if they tell you you're going to be there a week. After one day, I was told I was no longer needed and I'm sure it was because I answered the phone wrong LOL!

I remember the firm that broke up! In the early 2000s all the commercials were for Sinez, Kirk and Miles then like 10 years later a separate commercial for just Sinez and Kirk. Later there was one for the (first name I don't remember) Miles law firm. It was definitely the same guys!

Weird_Squirrel_8382@reddit
A lot of Americans watch sports though, that's why I could pick Blake Maislin out of a lineup. I wonder if every team has "an official law firm sponsor"
sgtapone87@reddit
I watch a ton of sports. I think maybe it’s a Washington thing; as in we have civilized laws about that as opposed to…well, Ohio.
Weird_Squirrel_8382@reddit
Washington's civilized rules don't look all that different from Ohio's. Both are modeled on guidance from the American Bar Association ](https://www.americanbar.org/groups/professional_responsibility/publications/model_rules_of_professional_conduct/rule_7_2_advertising/). Looks like in 2021 Washington updated Rule 7 to address things like texting potential clients. The lack of TV ads is probably just because people up there don't like it.
Weird_Squirrel_8382@reddit
Now you have me curious! Ohio definitely has ambulance chasers. I had a mailbox full of flyers when I left the hospital after getting hit by a car.
claudiatiedemann@reddit
I drive past dozens of these billboards every day to and from work. Hard to miss them when they rarely change. I also listen to the radio while commuting and they play these same ads over and over.
CupcakeSeaShanty@reddit
It depends. I grew up in and around NYC and couldn't name a single one. Move across the state to Buffalo, and these lawyers are basically memes, with one notable practice having an off-Broadway musical produced by 30-somethings about it.
My guess is that mid-size cities are large enough to support these practices, but small enough to make advertising and sponsorships relatively cheap.

amazingtaters@reddit
I can think of several Chicago personal injury attorneys off the top of my head after having lived here less than a year. There's TOPDOG, Allen Law Group (the guy who's always wearing a fedora for some reason), and Lerner and Rowe. I know I'm leaving one out that's in the burbs somewhere and uses his middle/highschool aged son and daughter in all of his ads.
I feel like they go softer on the ads then other places I've lived though. No one is bringing Darryl "The Hammer" Isaacs level shenanigans to our TV screens.
IainwithanI@reddit
WBEZ did a Curious City story on this. I don’t recall much, but they attributed the I-80 signs to attorneys afraid they’ll lose out to others. There are a lot of workplace injuries in that area. I wish I could remember if they said why lawyers don’t advertise in the rest of Chicagoland.

I posted about Cellino & Barnes then obviously the split up and everything then realized I haven't seen a personal injury attorney in a while. I almost never watch television anymore to see any commercials.
vegasnative@reddit
We have a guy named Glen Lerner who is apparently totally hated by the state bar association. He used to have a bunch of stupid billboards with the slogan “The Heavy Hitter” and they made him take them all down because “the” implies he’s the only heavy hitter.
He switched to “A Heavy Hitter” for awhile, but now he uses “One Call, That’s All” and has teamed up with another dope who has a bunch of AI ads where he’s a superhero.
Weird_Squirrel_8382@reddit
That is so funny that the bar association was like "heavy hitter is a definable enough term that we can penalize someone for saying he's THE heavy hitter."

Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, it was Vrdolyak. I actually knew the family growing up, and they're all scummy POS. There's a reason they almost went under when a few of them were charged with felonies a few years ago (don't remember if any of them got jailtime tho). They were also the types to throw their money around to get you to feel beholden to them, and they mainly did that in the local youth sports teams and similar organizations that rely heavily on fundraising.
