Anyone ever seen this in a truck gun, mud dobber I’m guessing. Mk18 got lucky I saw it. Normally rides muzzle down in passenger seat crack. 2nd pic is larva

Add that to the list of reasons why a truck gun can be a bad idea!
Correct-Sail-9642@reddit
Whoa wait a dang old minute sir, That is my user name on a couple other platforms. Okay maybe more like dating apps and an old email account but still. I know its not super original but If we are both Mountainman88, depending on the reason behind the 88 we could be on the same mountain possibly. And there is only so many men on this particular mountain. There may be some sort of overlap in territory, I can only think of three logical reasons behind the 88 and not the one so many of these liberal redditors love to assume about a simple two digit number at the end of my other account name. Hint, I get accused of being a nazi every once in a while for having 88 on my name and there is no convincing them otherwise apparently.
Mountain_Man_88@reddit
Lol are you the one who stole Mountain Man 88 elsewhere? I always try for just Mountain Man, then get creative with spaces, hyphens, and dashes, then try numbers. 88 is just the year that I was born. I get called a Nazi by idiots all the time too, but I refuse to forfeit my birthday to idiots or to Nazis.
Correct-Sail-9642@reddit
Love how my comment gets downvoted for god knows what reason. Perhaps it was mentioning liberals on reddit in any way, when really its just speaking the truth. Would be the only kind of person seeing two numbers 88 and making accusations of being a nazi, who tf else would assume that and further who else would go out of their way to accuse the person of being a nazi then after a simple explanation behind the number 88 and stating I hate nazis more than they do still get called a nazi anyway. Where people get it from I dunno but its stupid as hell. Why would I put some lame dog whistle number in the alphabet code in my user name if I was a nazi? the fact that you too get called a nazi speaks for itself. tons of birth year 88s, highway 88 residents or other reasons. Where I stay there are like a hundred businesses with 88 in their name. 88 this or 88 that, 88 Love is one of my favs. To be downvoted for even saying liberal redditors is hilarious, not like its an insult or something its just a fact. To find it distasteful to say that at all proves there are in fact liberals all over reddit why they find that to be worth a downvote is lame af. Not like I'm a nazi for making a simple statement like that. Silly people with silly convictions on the internet, lord help this era for it is full of soft asses & fools

I'd love to hear your list of reasons a truck gun is a bad idea...
Mountain_Man_88@reddit
A truck is not a safe. Most firearms that are stolen are stolen from vehicles. Most people do not need a rifle in their truck when they aren't in their truck. Most people who actually have use for a separate rifle in their truck live/work on a ranch and will use the rifle to dispatch varmints/predators, and they can just freely bring the rifle from their house to their truck as needed. The other class of people for whom truck guns make sense is cops. Cops tend to have a method of actually locking the gun up in their vehicle, and a thief would be pretty bold to try to steal a gun from a cop car.
Correct-Sail-9642@reddit
Well none of the qualifications for a truck gun require that it be left unattended in said truck while parked at home, nor does it need to be unlocked or unsecured or even visible inside the vehicle if it was broken into. In my case it is hidden behind an interior panel modified to flip downward with only a tug at the top, but 99% chance anybody breaking into my beater truck is going to think to pull off the interior plastic behind the seats looking for hidden weapons is highly unlikely, its just the rear interior panel of a single cab beater truck, normally the only thing back there is the cabin filters.
Also in my case I live rural in a near zero crime area and do ranch work and mountain activities for a living so it makes sense. Short of taking my whole truck with them the chances a thief ends up with my rifle are highly unlikely.
Having a long gun handy for me is rather important, half the time when doing some work in remote areas I keep it up front but when in town it is hidden away where no one would suspect it. Living in an area where nobody really breaks into cars like that is a major upside to begin with, but at least keeping it hidden away is still wise. You don't see alot of old cheap wood rifles used in criminal activity really either. If it ever went missing it would just be some lousy thiefs woods toy or a quick hundred bucks if anything.
Correct-Sail-9642@reddit
Also the law enforcement around here has no issues with locals having a rifle handy in their vehicle. Ive been stopped with it up front next to my person more than once and only one officer even mentioned it before letting me go with a "have a good day stay safe"

For hunting guns we always cover our muzzles in electrical tape. It works to completely seal a flash hider too if you don't plan to put a can on it ever. It has been proven to get blown off the muzzle by the approaching gas before the bullet even gets to it. All kinds of stuff can get in your bore, I had a complete stoppage on a bolt gun when so much blowing sand got in my muzzle (it was a day after a shot and I hadn't replaced the tape) that I wasn't able to chamber a round due to sand in the chamber. I had to return to camp to figure out a way to clean my barrel/chamber out.
In the winter you'll see a few cases a year of people getting snow in their guns (especially shotguns) and blowing their barrel apart on the first shot. I've had to poke a plug of snow out of my shotgun on several occasions. If you're not careful falling snow can even build up in a barrel and freeze (I've had it happen several times walking through snowy pine forests.
AccomplishedGap3571@reddit
you need to pick up a pack of latex "muzzle covers" from the drugstore
lanekrieger94@reddit
Wouldn't latex break down and become brittle over time? I just use a 3d printed cap, worst case if I have to start blasting it's like 1 cent worth of plastic.
Quw10@reddit
Unless you use something with decent heat resistance a 3D printed one will degrade too. At least in OPs case since it's a truck gun but like you said it'd be cheap to print another one.
lanekrieger94@reddit
I mean I use abs, which if I remember correctly is what the plastic interior of cars of made of.
roostersnuffed@reddit
Electric tape is commonly used to wrap the muzzle while hunting in the wet and rainy. Not a bad idea for OP.
Vato_Loco@reddit
Ahh yes the magnums

What am I supposed to be seeing here?

Clean your guns more
huseman94@reddit (OP)
It’s prolly been 2 weeks in the truck
TacosNGuns@reddit
If there’s a hole left unattended, it’s only a matter of time before a mud dobber fills it. Spent 3 hours removing mud from my RV furnace flue…
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
It’s a sign to shoot it more 🙂↕️
huseman94@reddit (OP)
I build out that 18” geissele and I’ve been running it since, I’m prolly 2k into the spr and the shorty hasn’t been getting the love she deserves
Correct-Avocado5426@reddit
This is why mine never leaves the safe.
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
🥲
Correct-Avocado5426@reddit
Don't worry, I kid. I put the CMMG converter in my AR this past weekend and went through about 200 rounds of 22lr for cheap.
