Where is the best place to buy whey protein these days?

Used to buy big 2.5kg bags of whey powder from Myprotein, but they seem to have changed to odd bag sizes now, and increased their prices.
Any advice on what's a good place to buy it from?

Can’t stand the constant DFS-style sales of myprotein, bulk powders, the protein works etc. No matter how much they’re ‘discounting’ them, they almost always end up at the same price which is expensive /kg.
I bought PBN off amazon for years, it was good quality and a fair price but they seem to have disappeared recently 😭

Just checked and you are correct they have changed their sizes. I always buy from myprotein, I wait for a good sale and buy like 10kg.
My last order was 5kg for £70. (May 2025)
I have also bought Myprotein 2.5kg for £35 from Costco but I have not seen them there recently.
I have tried some of the cheap Amazon whey, but they taste like concrete.
I do wanna hear if anyone got any good recommendations otherwise I’ll just buy the Lidl protein shake it’s something like 35g for £1.

I'm wondering if they are using odd sizes like 900g because the portions line up with US sizings (2lbs ish)

I'm wondering if the price has gone up for all whey at the moment

I saw an article that demand is up due to people on fat jabs being told to supplement protein. Didn't fact check it. But prices are definitely up across the board

That would be annoying if true, as they are essentially taking an easy shortcut whereas people who lift weights don't.

Prices have gone whey up lately

🙄

I can't remember why but I think you might be right. Vague recollection of reading/hearing that

Maybe something to do with the Hormuz blockade, as I think I read it's affecting fertiliser which is use to grow stuff to feed cows.
I might be completely wrong tho 😂

I've actually found the Amazon stuff to be decent tasting tbh.
Out of stock at the moment though.
Super-Nuntendo@reddit (OP)
Interesting. What's the name of the one on Amazon you are talking about?

I use bulk, its probably not cheapest but it doesnt muck up my stomach
Digidigdig@reddit
Yeah I’ve used bulk powder for a while now no problem. Tho I find their bars do upset my guts.
They are a bit like DFS as they always seem to have a sale on.
EverybodySayin@reddit
Don't necessarily wanna go for the cheap brands anyway, they're normally not the best of quality and have stuff like soy protein in there which doesn't agree with a lot of peoples' stomachs.

Some guy at work who retired recently was a protein fiend and used to gas us out.
His were so bad that you could taste it in the air when stood outside with him which is utterly insane.
He got the train to work and I asked him whether he subjected other passengers to his aroma, he just laughed...
EverybodySayin@reddit
Some people don't tolerate it very well and get the most horrific gas, as you've experienced second hand.
Super-Nuntendo@reddit (OP)
That's why I settled on mp, as they were a good balance between price and quality. But they've gone and changed it all up now.
EverybodySayin@reddit
Bulk or MP are my two go-to brands. There's been a price hike across the board in recent years with whey protein unfortunately.
Thalamic_Cub@reddit
Exactly, or the dreaded pea protein 🤢

B&M do 1kg muscle moose for £14.99 in good amount of flavours. Good macros and tastes pretty decent.
Agitated_Ad_361@reddit
Couldn’t stand the taste of the sweeteners in those ones personally, otherwise they’d have been a good option for me.
eikerir@reddit
I just shop around for the best deal whenever I have to buy again.
My last purchase was about 6kg of Grenade Whey from Discount Dragon for around £50.
deadliftbear@reddit
I’ve been buying from The Protein Works for years, but they also have made some unfortunate decisions on flavours and pricing. That said, it drinks and digests well.
Fit-Bedroom-7645@reddit
Mostly keep a few in my eBay watchlist and wait for them to either have a sale or offer a discount
BarSalt970@reddit
I go to Holland & Barrett and buy Optimum Nutrition when its on offer. Best protein
Riqitch@reddit
In terms of supermarkets, I've only ever tried Aldi's and Lidl's own brands, Lidl's better but I can't remember how big the bag was. Deffo not a kilo, same for Aldi's.
Maybe try Holland and Barrett?
In terms of online, Per4m has a large range of flavours but haven't tried that brand yet. Still in my MyProtein phase
genxerrr@reddit
I don't know about the "best" but I've been using Peak Supps for unflavoured for years.
