The forest boys are nearing 40, but still look great for their age.

God I had that set. It was the only full sets I had till I got older.
stellabarnum@reddit
⭐️ memories ⭐️
BigManWAGun@reddit
Step mom recently cleaned out a storage unit. Brought me a giant tub of 80s garage sale legos. My entire childhood in a plastic bin.
Seven22am@reddit
Oh man! Memory unlocked!
HairwayToStevenn@reddit
Same here! Loved this set
cortesoft@reddit
I don’t have this exact set, but I did have this castle one that I recently found again and built with my son. Had a blast!
hamburgler26@reddit
Yesss this is the one I had! Was always one of my favorites from back then, wish we'd kept it.
weltvonalex@reddit
Amazing set
MrPhister84@reddit
I still have that one as well! I rebuilt it a few years ago, but 2 days later my then 4 year old wrecked it. It is now mixed amongst all his other pieces/sets. Great memories with it as a kid though.
kingofthesofas@reddit
Seeing these guys brings a lot of memories. I had this exact set and I spent so much time a lone in my room with them inventing adventures with them. I didn't have a good childhood but these boys really helped me escape a lot of the stuff that was happening to me.
Seven22am@reddit
I hope being able to recognize that your childhood wasn’t so great means that your adulthood is significantly better. Glad these little guys were there for some good make believe along the way.
kingofthesofas@reddit
Thankfully yes my adulthood has been awesome and I have everything I wanted as a kid including being the dad I wish my dad was to Amazon children.
Seven22am@reddit
Amazon children are historically deprived. Food for you!!!
kingofthesofas@reddit
lol Auto correct got me. I mean to say Amazing.
Seven22am@reddit
Hahaaaa... yeah, that cracked me up. And I apparently wished you some food instead of some good.
Subject-Promise-4796@reddit
Just came to say this! My brother and I would make lego movies with our camcorder with this set!
Jupitersd2017@reddit
Wait are you also making Lego videos for Iran? 😂. I’m completely kidding. Those videos are pretty epic though
Subject-Promise-4796@reddit
I like to think my bro and I paved the way for the Iran videos 😂😜 Just playing but yes they are very epic!
Seven22am@reddit
That’s awesome! Were they “Prince of Thieves” themed?
Subject-Promise-4796@reddit
You know it! 🫶
mrtitkins@reddit
Same! What a beautiful blast from the past.
Curious_Ninja5952@reddit
Holy cow yes
Abagofcheese@reddit
Holy crap, I totally forgot about this! I got this set when I was about 5, it was my favorite!
Prestigious-Emu5277@reddit
Holy fuck me too. Totally had this set
spilltheblood@reddit
Same!!
HelicopterExact4621@reddit
Dude I had that set!
Murphy_Dropkick410@reddit
MrDilbert@reddit
TIGHT tights.
accuratesometimes@reddit
They were definitely Robin Hood and co
Jermine1269@reddit
Hey Blinkin!!!
Important_Tennis936@reddit
Did you say "Abe Lincoln?"
Ticky79@reddit
Did they have castles and horses and jousting sticks too?
Professional-Use7393@reddit
Oh! I had this one! And a couple of other varieties of it as well. Bought second hand so we could afford it ❤️
SleepyDoozer2@reddit
I would build and rebuild the castle playset to withstand attacks from these guys.
intensenerd@reddit
My absolute favorite set. Got it for Christmas when I was a kid. Then lost it in a house fire.
30 some odd years later I had adult money and got it off eBay. The only time I’ve teared up finishing a set.
OllieFromCairo@reddit
To this day, my favorite minifigs.
SevereDeparture739@reddit
God yes. And these
ForeverLopsided1006@reddit
That neon plastic hit so hard.
KingdomOfFawg@reddit
It literally looked like The Future.
KingdomOfFawg@reddit
Pre licensed IP Lego was great. Broader strokes allowed you to use your imagination more.
That was what they had over action figures.
Bulky_Yak_8626@reddit
I got this one for my 10th birthday, best gift ever!!
Battlescarred98@reddit
Hell yeah. Had that little dungeon thing in the center
Expensive-Froyo8687@reddit
I received this very set for my 9th birthday in 1989. Still have it!
That_Grim_Texan@reddit
Men, we're manly men,
We are the men in tight, tight, tights!
aliencardboard@reddit
What a great set. 🏹
Numerous_Team_2998@reddit
I have just rebuilt it using the parts I could find. I had so much fun!
Polochamps@reddit
I had this back in the 90s. This is the one where the back opens like a door, right?
LAffaire-est-Ketchup@reddit
This is awesome!! My parents didn’t believe in Lego sets so all of my saved Lego is the basic builder stuff. But I passed it on to my kids — even got them a Lego table (on clearance when The Hudson’s Bay store went out of business). They’re allowed cool Lego sets. And I buy them.
(I wasn’t allowed video games either)
mikeeperez@reddit
Yesterday, I was walking by a shop that had a Lego bonsai tree on display, and it made me think of this particular set and how regular brown Lego bricks were rare.
I was a huge fan of this series and the pirates. I so wanted the Black Seas Barracuda. I used to ogle the display cases at Service Merchandise for as long as my parents would allow.
DarinCN@reddit
Anyone was into pirate legos?
Petraaki@reddit
Nope, too poor. Those sets were spendy! I feel the same way about the pirate skip some people feel about that big aircraft carrier
JessBx05@reddit
My brother had a pirate ship from memory 🙂
Daytonewheel@reddit
With the cannons that actually shot the small barrel legos. I heard they changed them shortly afterwards due to being “dangerous “
FradinRyth@reddit
They did. I had a couple of the spring powered dangerous ones and a bunch I'd the weak af sad ones.
acommentator@reddit
dang I shoulda been born a couple years earlier
burf@reddit
I was a big fan of combining the pirate and medieval Lego, personally
infamousbugg@reddit
I had the smaller pirate boat and various other pirate themed kits, as well as the forest people. My cousin had the big pirate boat, I wanted that set so bad, but the smaller one was cool too.
wynnduffyisking@reddit
Oh man the day I got the big pirate ship set was a significant milestone in my young life.
Darkspiff73@reddit
Very much so. I had the big two mast pirate ship, the small imperial one, the fort and some other little sets.
I loved the pirate line.
hotcapicola@reddit
I loved using the body for the big pirate ship for a spaceship
ObjectiveStandard635@reddit
Ow yes (also this one), but also pirate.
Sam_Boundy1984@reddit
I had this! I just completely forgot that I did! 😮
BCircle907@reddit
This has taken me back to being a kid. I spent hours playing with this set.
whyneedaname77@reddit
I liked this and didn't like it.
This felt like the change for Legos being Legos to it being collections.
Some of them were cool.
But it made Legos get away from creating whatever you wanted with them and create specific things.
whats_for_lunch@reddit
Bro. I wish I still had mine. So many memories
blue-marmot@reddit
Original astronauts
el_pinko_grande@reddit
Man, how the fuck have you kept those helmets intact? The chin pieces would always snap on mine.
blue-marmot@reddit
Because I have so many, these are the survivors
MightyCaseyStruckOut@reddit
I bet these are worth some decent money. The prices paid for some minifigs is ridiculous.
NDMagoo@reddit
Damn, the Lego Saddam Hussein I built must be worth a fortune by now. ;)
blue-marmot@reddit
Red - pilot White - explorer Yellow - scientist Blue - security Black - intelligence
Affectionate-Yak5280@reddit
Black must have uncovered some serious shit then went off to start Blacktron 👽
Szeth_Vallano@reddit
The Blacktron sets were so cool.
I loved the black/neon green color scheme.
mcfetrja@reddit
Message Intercept Base was probably the peak of my toy getting career. Nothing since had hit as hard, and to be honest I’d be equally excited to get it again.
blue-marmot@reddit
Were the the bad guys? I played them like a mercenary space pirate faction.
sfxer001@reddit
I still have this set
SarcasticYetHopeful@reddit
Knights and outlaws were so awesome. Allowed for more creativity than the “branded” sets now.
WossHoss@reddit
I had this set and it was sweet.
StatesmanDemosthenes@reddit
I remember this set!!!
Individual_Cow7365@reddit
Nice. I still have that set
Dreamingofapastlife@reddit
I still have this set, too! Complete with instructions. It gives me so much joy!
EBN_Drummer@reddit
I didn't have of the theme sets. I had mostly vehicles. I've been giving them to my son as prizes. One of the pieces from an airplane set broke and i learned Lego will send you replacements free of charge.
Hammerhandle@reddit
Saving this image so I know how to rebuild it!
BlackestHerring@reddit
I totally wanted that
vinciblechunk@reddit
Way less bromine yellowing than I would have expected
hanshotfirst2233@reddit
I have the most gigantic box of Legos from the 80s that my brother and I collected. Then you add all the Legos we got my kids when they were growing up. I’m not sure how much money all this would be worth today but it’s a giant tote. Lots of memories made with those Legos over 40 years
jun00b@reddit
Core memory unlocked for me. My allowance was 2 dollars a week and sets like this were out of reach for my budget.
However, we had a K-Mart go out of business and for several weeks they were selling off all inventory. Each week they added steeper discounts. I got this one, or maybe a similar one slightly bigger, at something crazy like 90% off. One of my most exciting purchases as a kid.
After that I regularly bought the tiny sets that were in the same world to add onto it. Loved the treasure chests and coins.
mcfetrja@reddit
Similar, but Blacktron from Sears Surplus.
Physical-Implement74@reddit
This was my first Lego set! Also had a tiny boat with 2 pirates
disinaccurate@reddit
I miss when stuff was unique and not everything was IP-licensed to hell and back.
Fixyblue@reddit
They had so many cool sets before everything (well, almost everything) just became franchise stuff. I loved Legos because you could kind of tell there were stories with their sets but it was left to you to come up with them. I'm '83 but I swear I"m the oldest man I know lol.
A_Stones_throw@reddit
I had that same set, was actually my first big build at age 8 back in like 1991. I remember I wanted more space sets, so I took the tower corner pieces, made them into an octagon shaped silo, put fins on it and used an Mtron octagon cover as a nose cone made it a rocket
Cap4011@reddit
I got this set for my birthday as a kid and I still remember my uncles joke when I opened it. "Looks like the developers got to Sherwood Forest"
Interesting_Divide69@reddit
goated set
-32768@reddit
I had a similar one, Forest Hideout 40567, I think I got it for my birthday in 1993.
wynnduffyisking@reddit
I had that one too!
JusDeCacahuete@reddit
That’s my jam! I loved it so much. Older brothers had the knights, younger bro had the wolf guys.
frecklemimus79@reddit
I love that the old set instructions are online. I still have enuf sets from some lines that I can kludge together ones I never owned, like the big black castle.
RhodySeth@reddit
Heck yeah, I had that one. Still have it in a tub downstairs somewhere.
capthazelwoodsflask@reddit
I'll always be a member of the Black Falcons, the superior castle faction
I really wish that they made castle pieces. I also wish that my brother didn't sell all of our legos years ago without telling me.
User_Says_What@reddit
Look what they took from us.
cortesoft@reddit
They took yours? I still have mine!
ronchee1@reddit
GW_Jefferson@reddit
Always awesome
BlueBomber13@reddit
Oh my god I was just thinking of these sets the other day!!!
Educational-Tie00@reddit
Loved these sets as a kid
SouthEastPAjames@reddit
Loved the forestmen…..bought an updated version of one of the forest sets from a few years ago, for my son, knowing I had the original at my mom’s house. I should do a side by side comparison of the two……
redditisahive2023@reddit
I always wanted that set
JasJoeGo@reddit
These were my favorites!
Archivarianne@reddit
I had this set. One of my biggest regrets is it got given away. I am filled with genuine joy that you have it. This is, to my humble opinion , the best lego set ever made.
Atillion@reddit
Your mother was a squirrel, and your father smelled of boisonberries!
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
Luckily plastic is immortal...
Significant-Kale-463@reddit
I loved that set
prodigaldummy@reddit
I freaking LOVED that set. That one and the pirate themed one were next level.
Ent_Trip_Newer@reddit
I still have my legos and duplos from the 80's.
anOvenofWitches@reddit
We called them “Castle Legos” and I had this exact set!
DystopianHeckscape@reddit
Had this exact set! While pieces went missing what was left was turned over to my nephew in a huge cache of assorted legos.
Adrasteia-One@reddit
These were the best.
slayercdr@reddit
I'm making my own, at 500x the size.
gravityhomer@reddit
I had 4 of these sets, the one with the rock that lifted was so cool to me. I combined them into one giant forest build one summer. Of course I don't have pictures because nobody did that.
HighSeasArchivist@reddit
You should be able to get it here. If nothing else Lego employees are super Lego nerds, and I'm sure would be glad to help.
josh_inya@reddit
Yoooooooo
ChezShea@reddit
I have a few of these sets and I still love them. I always pretended it was a mix of Men In Tights and Monty Python.
Cool-Profession-730@reddit
I have this set but its now in pieces mixed in with other sets . I wish I still had the plans .
jerseydevil51@reddit
https://www.lego.com/en-us/builder-app
They're all online and of course, there's an app for that.
epcot_1982@reddit
I had the one with the rope bridge over the stream. Absolutely loved this set
Curious-Antelope6171@reddit
I forgot about this one
HostilePile@reddit
Nice set I haven't had this set actually together for a long time. Mine don't look this good. They've had a rough life, and definitely look like they are approaching 40.
tribbleorlfl@reddit
That was my favorite Lego set of all time!
St_Sally_Struthers@reddit
The GOAT years for Lego
Specific-Library-312@reddit
And you actually got a lot of pieces for the money. I swear half the cost is licensing fees now.
Express-Cow190@reddit
Damn I think I had that set. I remember mine had a secret door.
OldJames47@reddit
I HAD THAT SET!
pentax10@reddit
Oh man, I had this set...
NeroWasNormal3768@reddit
Thanks for the smile.......man times were good.......at least I get to put together my kids Legos. Not the same though.
QuietNene@reddit
There’s a great Lego museum in Bilund Denmark that has all these OG sets. Sets you remember like yesterday even though you haven’t thought about them in 40 years. It’s seriously the closest thing you can get to ancestral memory outside of the Dune universe.
Li-RM35M4419@reddit
See that guy Nate on YouTube make the life size Knights Castle? Looks pretty cool
Ronthelodger@reddit
Always wanted that set! Looks really cool
Turbomattk@reddit
My favorite series
its_raining_scotch@reddit
Just seeing old Legos sparks a sense of wellbeing in me.
