Now we see that we are even worst. Welcome in Romania = depresion nation. Get better as well Denmark and leave this graph. Be a positive example.
Awkward-Noise1964@reddit
Its bad and its only going to get worse. We literally tried to give a slap to current rulling class by voting for someone thats kinda crazy (in a sense that he speaks about energy and stuff) for president, and gor slapped back with canceled elections, nothing we can do anymore. If you go to protest you wont get media cover, or if you get any its going to classift you as either extremists or pro Russia, they got this "big bad" they can invoke to disperse any opposition... Its not like Russia is not a real threat, but its a very convinient situation for people on power too.
Sudden_Succotash_612@reddit
in all fairness you should not cut off your hand if your leg is bleeding.
that's how voting for the insane dude seems to me.
if that dude gets presidency and aur gets leadership inside government we're in for a bad time.
Awkward-Noise1964@reddit
If you want an analogy, you need to get fever to kill viruses... We already had a non-aur government (the gov elections were over before presidency), also the presidency is not as big as gov for us, it would have been just a good symbolic signal that they cant and should not do whatever they please or they WILL be replaced... But the reality is they wont, even if they lose, that is the message transmitted and the reality.
Now the issues that got us to the point where he almost won are not addressed, the aur and crazy dude as president at the same time is more realistic now than it was before. We are not cleaning up, we are just swiping the dirt under the rug and at some point we wont be able to do it anymore.
All you need to do is look at whats been done until now, its worse and worse and we somehow try to justify how its good the old guys that rule us for like 36 years is a good thing....
Sudden_Succotash_612@reddit
i fully agree with you but usually i'm voting with the belief that even one baby step ahead is better than nothing. in my view voting with aur/crazy dude would be a setback, not only politically but their 'values' are shit (i studied crazy dude for a few hours, at one point he said cancer treatment with chemotherapy was a sin or not needed. as someone that had family go through that i was instantly repulsed).Β
as such i probably would have voted ciolacu between those two or neither.

Here inflation and loss of buying power is so strong some supermarkets reduced opening hours because nobody buys anymore.
Adventurous_Year9991@reddit
What supermarket? Auchan? Carrefour? Buy what from Carrefour? 10 X the value of cheese?
Talithea@reddit
Profi actually. One of the supermarkets moved closing time from 12 AM to 10 PM, and the other closes at 9 PM βofficiouslyβ despite having 10 PM closing time.
A local Carrefour express or how it is called cut 2 hours of opening times.
Only hypermarkets are still doing well, but because of retail volume.
andreysc7@reddit
good ... some base products are overpriced anyway. They prefer to close rather than dropping the price
EdliA@reddit
You probably shouldn't have increased VAT and other taxes to cover for the reckless public spending. It's easy to blame the supermarkets because the final price is what's easy to notice.
RedditorKain@reddit
See, here's the deal - the problem with the reckless public spending is that people imagine public sector employees are over-paid and the system is over-staffed. Statistics show that Romania has one of the smaller public sectors in the EU and one of the worst paid ones (as a percentage of GDP) and about average as a percentage of total public spending.
So where's the money, you may ask... - "Investment programs" that were financed with loans, primarily, which are the main piggy-bank of the politically connected elite. - A chronic understaffing, inadequacy and downright corruption of the fiscal administration which leads to exceedingly low collections of taxes and dues from companies, especially large ones. - Public order & military pensions. (In spite of the rhetorhic of "boo, special pensions", magistrates, while very well paid and with very solid pensions, are few in number. Most other types of special pensions (politicians, diplomats, aviators, etc) are a fucking rounding error in the grand scheme of things. The bulk of the money for special pensions go to ex-police, ex-military and, especially, ex-intelligence operatives.
The low hanging fruit was to raise VAT, fuck over the poorest in society, fuck over average public sector employees, basically fuck everyone who isn't part of the holders of capital. Reforms in other areas are hampered by interest groups which transcend party lines.
gentle_pirate23@reddit
That's true. They should have cut from the unconstitutional special "pensions" magistrates get, some are ranging in thousands of euros per month, if not hundred thousand. But rather than cut that, because it needs to go to the magistrates that get that money to sign it off, the government preferred to cut scholarships for less fortunate families, medical leave for women, and increase VAT, and due to the oil crisis, they threatened to remove the price cap on gas. They had done it by March 31st, but extended that until March 31st, 2027; I have a feeling they will remove price caps on gas before 2027.
Talithea@reddit
They raised the price enough to set the normal price as a discount if you have the supermarketβs app.
Bulletfb@reddit
??? Where the fuck are you?

The pandemic happened - it killed all the populus energy. The attention of the people was taken away from Justice and the important stuff, to all sort of pandemic-born populist characters, conspiracy theories, and paper nationalism, which was exploited very well by the Kremlin. And while everyone was busy bitching about masks and vaccines, the maggots won, reversing everything we achieved in the past 2 decades. The economy is in this current state because the maggot that was in control in 2016, was at the prison door for corruption, which meant he couldn't become prime minister, and purged his way through prime ministers, trying to find the perfect puppet that would let him rule from the shadows, while trying to change the law to decriminalize the thing he was condemned for. He went to jail in the end, but in the process, he removed Kovesi and set in motion the end of the Anti-Corruption Directorate, and because a bunch of better-prepared people were purged, the party fell in the hands the people who before that used to serve them tea and wipe their butt - a bunch of imbeciles, who wouldn't be able to budget their own grocery bill, let alone a nation during the pandemic. The inflation was left to run out of control after the pandemic, because the ruling party was worried that any measure designed to reduce it would affect their chances to win the next elections, so for 2 years they did nothing, and ran things on borrowed time and money.
gentle_pirate23@reddit
They only got the small maggots, the big fat pigs stayed in power. Unfortunately, it was just some low level idiots in power that got thrown under the bus to pretend we're actually fighting corruption, the corrupt system and local barons are still in power, nothing changed, they just learned to lie a little better.
When real cases started popping up on the justice department desk, they fired the guy in charge and got some fat fuck from DIICOT in charge, who proceeded to throw away cases prosecutors were sure would land with convictions. There was a documentary by Recorder that really riled people up, there were protests, but the isolationists russo-philes kind of hijacked that and made it about their Messiah. At least that is how I see it, Romanian here.
Petrica55@reddit
After big daddy Dragnea went to jail the trumpist rhetoric he introduced to Romanian politics was used to manufacture AUR, our right wing populist party that conveniently took over the anti-system outrage while discarding the elements that would actually threaten the politicians of the "system". This void in public political conscience was then used to basically capture the whole justice system
andreysc7@reddit
we don't have enough prison cells for all of them. The justice system is fucked up .. it worked for a tiny amount of time but these assholes are everywhere . We still have lots of cases which, we are 100% sure, will be delayed so much that nobody will get imprisoned. The country is rotten, from top to bottom
inflamesc@reddit

Monk19999@reddit
We can thank the major party that has been the majority in the government for the last 20 years for that which also destroyed our education system leaving most of Romania in a state of functional illiteracy so they can continue using misinformation and propaganda (from the communism era) to control the frustrated low income/middle classes to keep voting for them.
Until yesterday we had a man, Ilie Bolojan as the prime-minister of Romania which kinda closed the money faucet for several wise-boys, mostly party members of the PSD (the so called socialists)... so they allied with the right wing extremists to take him down which they did actually. :) This country is lost to a gang of thieves.

Truth be told, everything is getting worse everyday. Few of us want to make a change for the good, but most still live like in a wild west movie. I struggle almost everyday trying to convince my parents to stop watching dumb new channels (i'm talking about you, RomaniaTV) with little to no success. When shit hit the fan, the prime minister told us to buckle up: bad times are coming (yeah, thanks for the heads up). Low salaries, high expenses, barrely can afford a decent car without getting a loan and paying it almost double in 5 years when it'll be worth as much as a small bag of roasted sunflower seeds. Rents are expensive, buying your own place is a joke (if you don't mind paying your bank 500-600⬠every month for the next 30 years - that is the minimum income. Most people slowly turn into apes, dumb people have the right to vote based on what they see on tv or tiktok. Education and studies are for weak people; if you make 10k⬠a month, you are the king of the shithole. Few people truly care about the future of this country, rest of them don't give two flying ducks. As one of our beloved politicians said, "i don't give a shit about the country's budget deficit". Great point, pretzle king!

The numbers for inflation were cooked so that we can get the euro. I don't hate that got the euro, i like it actually, and support it, but it was blatantly obvious.
They cooked the inflation rate - first they added some public services with disproportionate weight to the inflation basket, and then they temporary decreased the price of those services drastically. Realistically we are in the same order as Romania.

You gotta live the little nafo fanboys downvoting a pro-EU but realistic comment. Things were always expensive and we had a good run betwen 2000 and 2020. In the last 5-6 years we regressed quite a bit, starting with the COVID money printing. Not that it's wrong to print money in a crisis, but you have to make sure they go to people in some way. Basic good prices outpaced median incomes quite a bit, but little minded kids prefer to play "our three months of government were better than your three months of government". With governments lasting three month you all failed, without exception.

It's the generalised corruption, and the people who are too dumb and keep falling for the propaganda, it's only getting worse.

Every year my 1850 euro wage loses 170 euros worth of buying power, I lose more in a year than other balkan countries grow in 2.

Idk if Romania has something going on special but i suppose its because of the oil prices. %9 for monthly is an unreasonable number
Ainudor@reddit
no, it's not news and not because of oil prices, we have been leading in inflation for over a year afaik. It's because of corruption, dedicated co tracts, outright theft by our majority ruling class.
FrostyBelt6819@reddit
Now that i check the chart again, it says compared to March 2025, i thought it was monthly which i was shocked.
Ainudor@reddit
Romania is full of surprises, come visit sometimes. We are nice and friendly because our ruling class is a common enemy, just don't move here :))

Bulgaria not being on the bottom of corruption/inflation charts is not something I thought I'd live to see
pdonchev@reddit
Because the numbers for inflation were cooker do that we can get the euro. I don't hate that got the euro, i like it actually, and support it, but it was blatantly obvious.
They cooked the inflation rate - first they added some public services with disproportionate weight to the inflation basket, and then they temporary decreased the price of those services drastically. Realistically we are in the same order as Romania.
