When I was 'transitioned' away from DEC in 1993, they allowed us to take our 'desktop' and software with us. I left with a fully loaded MV2-GPX and 19in Sony monitor, with a license for every DEC product (CSC pak). A few weeks later got a long term contract and made a boat load of $$ using this machine. Later upgraded to a 3100/76 with expansion pizza box and kept going. Still doing VMS support today on AXP and Itanic.

Tell us that that DEC is still in your garage and you are doing some vintage computing fun.

Years ago I actually had a monitor that size. It weighed a ton and must have used a lot of energy every time I turned it on.

Every time I turn on my Power Mac quad-G5 I feel like that scene in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation when he turns on the christmas lights and the electricity meter goes crazy and they have to start another power plant.

Hahaha! I remembered that movie. Years ago I bought a Xerox Phaser solid ink printer. I was a mistake because those ink blocks that were made out of wax were not cheap. But it printed beautifully on any paper; color was super saturated. It had to be left on all the time as the ink needed to be in a liquid state, and if it's turned off, it becomes solid and needs to be warmed up again. But during the warm-up process, it would dump a lot of it into the waste tray. When it printed, it was using 1,000 watts of power, but during standby mode, it was using maybe 100. Nevertheless, it was like using an iron full time.

My dad has had a Xerox Phaser laser jet printer for a long time now. It’s been very reliable.

When the head(s) clog, it uses a lot of ink blocks to clear it. I really liked mine. Generic inks were really cheap (and more so now)

My favorite subgenre of these 80s computer ads is how the model is posed in a way that makes him or her look like they have no idea how to use even use a computer. 'Let's put the mouse on the left of the keyboard but use it with your right hand' Probably for just done in the name of photo composition but a relic of an era where few people used computers.
