2026 poll finds majority of Turks consider Greece an "enemy country" - ranking it as third biggest enemy overall, only behind Israel & US. why do you think that is, and what do you think of the results?

see a lot of accounts on Twitter, from Greece, talking about how they would invade us, turn Hagia Sophia back into a church, and saying disgusting things about the honor of Turkish women… When I see that, I find myself becoming more radicalized. they’re making statements that resemble a Christian version of ISIS.
Lothronion@reddit
You write this as if there are no similar online statements by Turks. The real difference here though is that if a Turkish politician repeated these online statements on a public venue, they would be rewarded by an uptick in their popularity, while if a Greek politician did the exact same thing, they have just committed career suicide.
ZestycloseHat4990@reddit
People create false impressions over dushbacks on the Internet on both sides and this is creates a vicious circle of hate. The mentally challenged nationalistic stuff are just loud
bruhmanbruuh@reddit
Sure , while the Turkish accounts of twitter are perfectly normal , non nationalist and democrats.
Besides that , you still use Twitter? WTF, that place is AIDS
SOHONEYSAME@reddit (OP)
cope.😍😍
gk98s@reddit
This "Greece and Turkey being enemies" thing is nothing but online ultranationalists talking bs. They will never go to war and Greek and Turkish people are very friendly to each other irl 90% of the time
Lonely-Programmer123@reddit
The videos of beef beetween borderguards are funny tho.
Commercial_Law_1689@reddit
Dude honestly me(turk) and a greek friend were talking about this, if someone wised up and put coin operated loudspeakers for idiots to yell obscenities close to borders they'd make bank.
Fuzzy_Alg@reddit
Yesterday I was watching a Greece tour video and tourist bus driver got an argument with Greek uncle. It was as same as borderguad video.
BurgurluGenc031@reddit
there was a one video which is in middle of the night both side of border security soldiers were swearin to each other screamin sayin 'wtf u talking about there u dickheads' in their language which was a hilarous. They racin like in theatre whos gonna make loudest noise xd.
Ujemegaz@reddit
It means Greece has become weak. Should have been first place.
Starfalloss@reddit
And Albanian calling Greece weak is very ironic.
Ujemegaz@reddit
When confronting Turkey, we have been stronger than Greece.
Starfalloss@reddit
Yeah sure is this the same Albania that needs Greece to patrol their airspace? 😂
Warm-Abrocoma3306@reddit
feel free not to do so its actually the italians who patrol ha;f of the time too , you know follow nato orders its not like we asked you to patrol our skies , i bet turks can fill your position
SOHONEYSAME@reddit (OP)
if it was up to public, we wouldn't.
& yeah, ur "brothers" Turkey can do it, lol.
Warm-Abrocoma3306@reddit
yeah so our public dont want you either so stop mentioning it
Ujemegaz@reddit
Would you protect us if Turkey attacked 🤣
Starfalloss@reddit
I hope so
Dardanian_Mapping@reddit
Azerbaijan being voted by 20% as enemy is diabolical
smiley_x@reddit
No surprise there. Turkey considers everyone beyond its borders an enemy and will find all sorts of excuses why they need to be offensive. Nothing to see here.
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
I disagree. Turkiye wants to maintain Cyprus yes, but 10 years Turkiye has no political intention with Europe. Neither hostility, neither participation to EU, netiher an alliance. It tries to increase influence on Africa and Levant mostly.
New_Parking9991@reddit
10 years ago was coup i think, after that erdogan change, especially rhetoric and action. Turkish-libya memorandum, try drill in water in cyprus, many agressive moves. There is propaganda now for alliance with Israel because we make deal for defence system and training, but Azerbaijan buy weapons and accomodate Israel for oil and other .
No matter what Greece do, Erdogan will sell narrative for his motive.
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
Turkey has been invited to Libya by the Central government in order to provide security against the threat of Haftar. It has nothing to d owith Greece.
New_Parking9991@reddit
turkish-libya memorandum has to do with EEZ south of crete.
Signing such a deal and even being agressive about it ,it is a clear threat. To say it has nothing to do with Greece is absurd.
Arsimp33@reddit
It's a enemy country not enemy peoples

What is ABD?

Young_Owl99@reddit
I think we hate everyone. If Azerbaijan is %20 then we are suspicious against everyone.
SOHONEYSAME@reddit (OP)
Azeri ranking is (probably) cause of Israel.
Young_Owl99@reddit
Regardless the amount of “enemy” votes are way too much for every country. Even for the ones that they are not the majority.
Greek_Bodybuilder995@reddit
Neck-and-neck with Iran, Russia in 5th place, Germany and Italy seen more like allies rather than enemies...
THE PERSIANS CAN'T BEAT US
P.S. 20.5% of Turks think Azerbaijan as an enemy. What the fuck?!!!
Young_Owl99@reddit
Really tho wtf
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
It wasnt like that 5-10 years ago but Greek alliance with France and Israel changed things.
Lumpy-Tone-4653@reddit
France doesnt seem as hated here tho,
Also the agreement with israel is not an aliance
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
The thing is, people believe Greece intentionally do these in order to realize their plans on Turkey. So they believe Greece is the one organizing all these, they wait the right moment to act according to their plans.
Lumpy-Tone-4653@reddit
Cant blame them, greeks control the banks, greeks control the media, greeks control the weather, greeks control the EU,Greeks control Israel and Greeks control the USA (sometimes we control the casinos too).
We just do that sometimes
Dazzling_Mission7604@reddit
You make it sound crazy, but Greece is in an alliance with Israel, which has threatened Turkey. Furthermore, Greece has armed the islands against Turkey and constantly blocks Turkey's entry into EU initiatives. When you add the fact that some Greeks online constantly talk about seizing Turkish land, it is only natural that Turks would see Greece as a threat.
Lumpy-Tone-4653@reddit
To nswer to your questions honestly:
No there is no "alliance" with israel, itd just an agreement that gives greece israeli tecnology in exhange for greece to train israeli pilots.Neither greece, nor cyprud are by any means obligated to help israel militarily ,it was a mostly shitty realpolitik move instead of a zionist pivot, that move may have been even averted if it wasnt for the dusputes in the agean between greece and turkey. Also Greece is in no place to theaten militsrily a country 8times its population ,10 times its suze , over double its military and also a NATO ally.A supposed war between greece and turkey is just a populist doomsday secnario that both goverments try to legitimise.Greece has many times been the biggest supporter for turkey joinning the EU ,in hopes of ficing the relations and cooperation between the two ,of course there are always the "if"s in those supportive speaches, that basically condemn all of erdogams legacy.greeks online saying they wamma annex turksih land is not a serious reason for tensions, such irredentist views are mere folk-tales today in greece ,bot meant to be replicated in real geopolitics with no serious party or candidate advocating for such a disastorous policy. As a greek to this day i see no change of greeks towards turks so it might be less of greeks changing rhetoric and more of turks changing viewpoints.
Abigail_Blyg@reddit
OP, you might be the most insufferable and jobless person on this entire sub. Good job.
oldyellowcab@reddit
Quite the contrary. Majority of the Turkish people like Greeks as their neighbors.

Early-Show2886@reddit
The moderators should really step in here; there are so many posts about Turkey and Greece every day. Why don't you create a separate subreddit where you can discuss these two countries? I think this is unfair to other Balkan countries. This is practically spam.
Lumpy-Tone-4653@reddit

bluecoldwhiskey@reddit
Interestenigly , Russia is not on the top 3 considering history .
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
It wasnt even #5 10 years ago
DifficultTitle831@reddit
I wonder who they've asked and received 20% enemy response on Azerbaijan. No way that graph is correct.
dcdemirarslan@reddit
Kurds or Arabs most likely
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
Arabs don't hate Azerbaijan at all. I knew lots of Turkish Arabs and most of them supported Erdoğan's aid to Karabagh
dcdemirarslan@reddit
Anti Israel rethoric makes Azerbaijan look less favorable in the recent times.
Additional-Penalty97@reddit
To be fair if you put the most peaceful Turk in this sub for over a month he will come out an ultranationalist
It is still fascinating to see what other people think of the things you have before thought differently though
riquelm@reddit
I wouldn't like to be in Ćevap jok
Organic_Contract_172@reddit
20.5% consider Azerbaijan an enemy? What is this?
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
The poll is heavily distorted. Only Kurds and Salafis hate Azerbaijan in Turkey.
0a_boy0@reddit
Probably mainly because you made an agreement type of thing with israel.
Lumpy-Tone-4653@reddit
We ger thwir tecnology and in exhange we train their their airforce...
While i dont want to have the chold-killing militias getting educated here, we also trained libyan generals back in the day.
Its more of a shitty realpolitik type move rather than a geniune zionist pivot
Starfalloss@reddit
Good to see the feelings are mutual ;)
DinDon1001@reddit
Actually they are not. The average Greek couldn't care less and the educated Greek understands we are more or less....the same.
Now thats a diferrent story when it comes to ultranationalists. Those we definately don't like. Including the Greek fat, crooked nose, dark skinned, self-proclaimed descendants of Perklis 😂
How about we focus for once on our shitshow?!
Iron_Axios@reddit
Except that one is historically justified and one is not...
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
This is Osman Nevres was a Turkishman of Jewish origin. He was journalist working for Turkish Intelligence Service an Ittihad Terakki Party. He changed his name to Hasan Tahsin and went to İzmir for a mission.
Ottoman Empire lost WW1 and Greeks were saying "My ancestors lived on this land before yours, so I can take it over and expulse your people" just like Zionists are doing currently. Zionists also say "This region was Judea but Romans exiled us and brought Arabs here, Arabs are the real invaders we're just taking back our land!" "This land is ours... I can take it back and ethnically cleanse your people!!" ...
On 15 May 1919, Greek troops landed on İzmir by their ships. Greeks of İzmir were in the streets with flags in their hands. Everybody was joyful, a priest blessed Greek soldiers in the ports of İzmir and people were around them chanting.
Hasan Tahsin was in the crowd, he took his pistol and shouted "Death to the invaders!" and killed 2 Greek soldiers called Basile Delaris ve Jorj Papakostos. He attacked a regiment of soldiers all alone and got shot to death.
Greeks who came to the region for establishing Megali Idea and send Turks back to Mongolia got send back to Greece in 1923 and 1955, their plans were directed to theirselves.
"They planned, but Allah also planned. And Allah is the best of planners." Al Anfal, 30

It increased after Greece went into an alliance with Israel. Greece used to have a much higher approval rate.
sxg3434@reddit
Who made this shit bro? No Turk ever would choose Greece over Armenia trust me.
BagComprehensive79@reddit
I mean since Israil seeing Turkey as next “Target” and Greece becoming an alliance with them, is this really surprising?
