Are those old school LaZBoy-style recliners still a thing in your neck of the woods?

Feel like I haven't seen one of those recliners in ages.
They did take up room but were plenty comfortable-- are people still using or buying them or have they gone out if style or been replaced by something else ?
CorrectCondition9458@reddit
I have a lazy boy store that advertises on tv. Usually right after dinner time.
Pomeranian18@reddit
Yes, they're popular. Look up La-Z-Boy site. They sell a lot of them.
thatswacyo@reddit
But La-Z-Boy doesn't sell the style that OP is asking about anymore. All their models are really slimmed down compared to the older style.
Suppafly@reddit
This, they still have a few bigger ones, but they aren't anything like the ones in the past that were huge and over stuffed. There are tons of cheaper furniture makers that make the huge overstuffed ones though and they are much cheaper than the lazboy ones.
herehaveaname2@reddit
I've been in one of their showrooms recently - in person, items like this still look huge and overstuffed.
https://www.la-z-boy.com/p/living-room/recliners/rocking-recliners/jasper-rocking-recliner/R-010709?coverId=LB206474
thatswacyo@reddit
I guess they do a better job making them look slimmer. The one in that link you sent looks pretty sleek compared to the old ones I'm thinking of.
herehaveaname2@reddit
The computer screen takes away a few pounds - in person, they're still giant overstuffed monstrosities.
But take that with a grain of salt, as I had a really bad experience with the company, their warranty, and the product. Won't buy again.
Astrazigniferi@reddit
The one my butt is currently parked in is only a few years old and is definitely the traditional overstuffed grandpa recliner. It was my 38th birthday present to myself.

I think every furniture store I've been in that sells multiple brands sells at least some La-Z-Boy products. In most of them, there's an entire room of them; finding it in a new store is almost a game.
Suppafly@reddit
Big recliners are still a thing, but actual LaZBoy ones also come in narrower and smaller form factors.
LetterheadClassic306@reddit
oh they're definitely still a thing just updated a lot. my dad just got one of those power lift recliners and it's way sleeker than the old puffy ones from the 90s. the modern versions have usb ports, memory foam, and take up less floor space honestly. wall hugger recliners are what most people buy now since they only need a few inches from the wall. if your wife isn't sold on the look, check out rocking recliners - they blend in more like regular furniture but still have that comfort.
818488899414@reddit
I have two in my living room...
Sad_Sympathy_9432@reddit
I love my laZboy recliner. I’m a very small woman so I bought a small model (might have said it was a ladies model). It’s not leather - it is a soft cloth. Perfect size for me. I do know some other people that own them. One is leather with big buttons but he’s thinking of getting a new one. His cat scratched his up badly
Amazing-Tadpole4558@reddit
Yes! I took two from my parents when I got married. I still have one and I LOVE it. Has lasted almost 17 years at this point.
dh1971@reddit
Yes, recliners are still very common.
El_Polio_Loco@reddit
Recliners, yes, but what about the big Lay-z-boy ones like these?
https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/comments/150j2jh/bifl_lazboy_recliner/
The styles have definitely changed.
BigPapaJava@reddit
Lay-z-boy is a company/brand name known for making good recliners. They make tons of styles of recliners under that name besides the big puffy one in the pic, so I don’t know if saying “the Lay-z-boy recliners” are communicating as clearly what they have in their head as they think.
But yeah… that style’s still pretty popular. It’s dated, but it’s easy to find, super comfortable, and tons of people have them in their homes if they have the room.
Fappy_as_a_Clam@reddit
My in-laws have two
QuietObserver75@reddit
Yes they're right on the top of their web page.
Zappagrrl02@reddit
We just bought one of these a couple years ago for my mom after she had major surgery
Appropriate-Food1757@reddit
Old people still like them. My mom has a pair
Alarming_Bell_4745@reddit
I have one. It was in my roomie's storage for a few years, given to us by their sister. Comfy af
cranberry_spike@reddit
They're definitely still common.
eugenesbluegenes@reddit
Pretty common, yes.
michigan2345@reddit
Very common
FerricDonkey@reddit
I use one as my computer chair.
dh1971@reddit
Yes those are very common.
Legend13CNS@reddit
They are, but I feel like slowly they're being replaced by the reclining couches. Older people I know have the same indestructible recliner they've had for decades, but younger people I know seem to be more interested in the aircraft carrier sized couches with reclining backs, cup holders, and charging ports. I know a few working on furnishing their first large living room they've ever had and they're all springing for the humongous L shaped couches instead of a classic couch and recliner setup.
codenameajax67@reddit
The only people I know who don't have them are too poor to afford them
schonleben@reddit
I don’t have one, just because I think they are ugly as all hell.
supremewuster@reddit (OP)
Thats just, like, your opinion
episcoqueer37@reddit
We managed to find an actual lay-z boy at a thrift store a couple of years ago for $25. One of the best furniture bargains we've found.
cranberry_spike@reddit
Ooh nice!
Aprils-Fool@reddit
I have an old wood and leather one that was in my husband’s family.
codenameajax67@reddit
Yes. That's pretty amazing.
Catfiche1970@reddit
You live in a big city but don't go to stores or peoples homes, I guess?
supremewuster@reddit (OP)
I do go to people's houses but they arent common here I never see them. I think maybe it is a regional thing
2013toyotacorrola@reddit
I’m almost certain it’s class thing.
supremewuster@reddit (OP)
bc they are so expensive ? Some are like $1500 or more !
notTheHeadOfHydra@reddit
I do feel like they are less common in apartments where space might be limited. If I lived in a bigger space I might have one but my living room is pretty small and seating is already a bit constrained when I have groups over. I just really don’t want to waste like a quarter of my living room on one seat, even if it’s super comfy.
Catfiche1970@reddit
Maybe those people just don't know how to relax! 😀
supremewuster@reddit (OP)
hahaha
mickeyanonymousse@reddit
no that’s seen like an old people furniture choice. I haven’t seen it in someone’s house in over a decade maybe 2.
vashtachordata@reddit
Same. I have no idea what’s happening in these comments.
One_Significance5354@reddit
Same same. Idk anyone who has one.
tcmits1@reddit
Whe re e do you live? They are more popular than ever particularly the electric ones. They literally cannot make them fast enough.
wieldymouse@reddit
We have one that seats 1.5 people or well, me and my dog or my wife and her dog.
devilscabinet@reddit
My wife and I each bought one last year. Mine is actually from La-Z-Boy one, even. We already have one in another part of the house.
HairyDadBear@reddit
Old school? They're still quite popular
Brennisth@reddit
Have one in my sunroom. :)
cryptoengineer@reddit
Sure. We bought an electric reclining sofa and chair just a few months ago. The latest feature seems to be built in USB ports for charging stuff.
Initial_Fill_2655@reddit
Yes, but many look a lot different than they used to.
Yourlilemogirl@reddit
I haven't seen one since the 90s but there IS a LaZBoy store in my town at least!

My husband has one he got from his best friend's grandpa. That thing is everyone's favorite chair in our house.
Ok_Helicopter2305@reddit
I got recliner and a couch recliner. They are awesome
Informal-Cobbler-546@reddit
My husband bought me one when I was pregnant and it lives in our bedroom. It was one of the few places I could sit and feel comfortable and it made breastfeeding a lot easier once my kid was here.
Saltpork545@reddit
Yes. You only have to go into a furniture store to see one.
If you live in a place with a Menards, check out the seasonal area where they put out couches. You will find them.
https://www.slumberland.com/collections/recliners/products/morrison-rocker-recliner-1
There you go.
enemydarksock@reddit
I swear all the men/dads in my family have recliners and that is their designated living room spot. My grandpa always had one and as he got older and lost mobility he switched to an electric one that could basically stand him up, and I’m sure my dad will do the same when he’s old lol.
famousanonamos@reddit
I have and actual Lay-z-boy recliner. It's awful. I have a bad back so we spent the money on what we thought was a good chair and the stuffing has broken down so fast. Also I've noticed the older people get, the more likely they are to have the chairs. My in-laws and mom have both replaced their main seating with recliners. My grandparents always had relcinders too.
Yeahboyeah@reddit
Yep, though the brands very. Wait til you get older or always feel more comfortable sitting with your feet up. Nice for a little quick nap, too.
Efficient-Panic3506@reddit
yeah they’re definitely still around, they’ve just… evolved a bit
you’ll see fewer of the giant overstuffed “dad chair” versions in younger homes, but reclining sectionals and sleeker recliners are everywhere now. same concept, just less visually loud
LA_Nail_Clippers@reddit
I'm in my mid 40s and no one I know has one yet, but I did have a friend mention how he was visiting his mom and tried hers and realized it feels really nice when you're old and aching so I have a feeling we'll start seeing those show up in our circle in the next decade or so.
Murky-Lunch-6413@reddit

I had 6 of them in our last house until we moved and downsized. I included them in the sale of the house. I'd bet they are still exactly where I left them.
supremewuster@reddit (OP)
Six!
GateDeep3282@reddit
Home theater room.
zoppaTheDim@reddit
They got replaced by couches with multiple recliners built into them.
I want to say this happened about twenty years ago or so. The singular reclining chair is only seen as the old guy chair.
NastyNightingale@reddit
I work at a major national furniture store and can confirm that recliners exist in a variety of styles, including LaZ Boy style.
Adorable_Dust3799@reddit
My dad bought a 2nd in 2021 and i grabbed it when he passed. My sis has the other one. When you cant sleep laying down for whatever reason they're lifesavers.
qu33nof5pad35@reddit
Yes. All of my friends have one in their house.
Aggressive_FIamingo@reddit
I work a lot with a pretty mid midwestern furniture store, and recliners are one of their biggest sellers. Especially those lift chair recliners, old people love those.
moonchic333@reddit
I think a lot of people have reclining sectional style couches now. Recliners are still very popular though and I think as people age they appreciate them more. I know of several older people who prefer to sleep in recliners. It’s an affordable option if you can’t afford one of those lift beds.
Kittalia@reddit
Still common but I saw a lot fewer of them when I was in my early 20s. They aren't very practical if you plan on moving every year or two and live in a small apartment, and the comfort is a lot more important for older adult.
Horizontal_Bob@reddit
Yeah.
They’re just leather now
Some have electric recline function
Some tilt forward to help seniors get up
Still a thing
Entiox@reddit
Given that a new LaZBoy store just opened up across the street from where I work I'm going to guess they're still fairly popular.
CheesE4Every1@reddit
Yeah. My dad's old one is still at my mom's in my uncle's game room.
mr_lockwork@reddit
Very common, not my personal taste, but plenty of people have them.
allaboutmojitos@reddit
I still have one in perfect condition from 1991 lol
It was used in the kids nursery for 10 years, then it went into the home office. It’s now being used in the grandbaby nursery.
Anyway- idk anyone who has one in their family room or out in the public spaces of their home, but we have a LaZBoy showroom/store in our town, so someone must be buying them!!
Foxy_locksy1704@reddit
I live down the street from an actual lay-Z boy store. They are always busy, went in there just to look around because they are having a huge sale. They absolutely still make the kind of chair op is asking about. My boyfriend sat in one and decided that’s the one he wants when we get rid of the one we currently have.
Jaqen-Atavuli@reddit
We have 2 and a matching couch. After Thanksgiving lunch nap in one is 10 outta 10
Brave_Mess_3155@reddit
Like most things, they aren't as good as they used to be. They no longer make any that are long enough for guys over 6 foot 2, but we wound up getting a couple anyway for my elderly grandparents and they would break and come apart as bout every three months.
venus_arises@reddit
I'm sitting in one right now....
judgingA-holes@reddit
I think it may be regional. If you live in an apartment in the city then you probably don't have a lot of room for something like a lazy boy.
glamm808@reddit
I'm sitting in one right now. Didn't really want it, but I broke my back and need a fusion in two places and the chair is the only thing comfortable other than my bed. It is ridiculously huge, though
Responsible-View-804@reddit
They’re not everywhere?
IAmBaconsaur@reddit
I literally just went to a regional furniture store to buy a recliner. It’s not a La-Z-Boy but we sat in a couple as we were looking for the right one.
Serious-Mongoose-387@reddit
i don’t have one but i have no idea what my neighbors have.
Apprehensive-Lock751@reddit
Just bought one last month.
GrimroseGhost@reddit
They’re definitely still popular. We got a new one a few years ago. I usually see them in old people’s houses as opposed to younger/middle aged people’s houses.
Inspi@reddit
I've always had at least one. Even when I was a broke college student.
CycadelicSparkles@reddit
I have one. It's awesome.
michigan2345@reddit
I have the steel re-enforced Lazy Boy, extra wide. My dog and I enjoy it everyday and it handles both of us with ease. Also has ports for charging and buttons for reclining three different parts of it. 10 year warranty.
captainstormy@reddit
What kind of alternative reality are you living in? Pretty much everyone I know has at least one, often one per adult in their home.
The first piece of good new furniture I bought for myself after college was a big comfy recliner.
Wawhi180@reddit
Not a laZBoy, but my husband HAD to have a recliner. I hate the thing and wish we could get rid of it in favor of another couch or loveseat to provide more seating, but alas it's not to be
Pkrudeboy@reddit
It’s the one piece of furniture that a lot of men won’t budge on. We’ll let you take the reins on the rest of the aesthetics, but you have to fit it in somewhere.
bigedthebad@reddit
I have one, so does my wife. They are comfortable and the only manufacturer I've found that makes a chair for tall people (I'm 6' 6").
They are rather poorly made though, all wood instead of metal frames. Mine has broken three times, twice a cheap plastic part that moves the footrest and just recently, the head rest snapped when I leaned back too hard.
If you're normal sized, buy something else.
Bluemonogi@reddit
I am sitting in just such a recliner right now. I did not buy it. My in-laws dumped it off on us one day. I was mad because it is so big and they did not ask if we wanted it but now it is the place I sit the most.
MilkstacheMustache@reddit
This is wild. Like of course I'm aware that people have them but I don't know anyone who has one, and it's genuinely delightful to see some people say just the opposite.
BidRevolutionary945@reddit
Recliners are popular for sure. My husband has an electric lift one. I had a reclining love seat ages ago. You don't have to get a lazy boy....there are plenty of other brands out there.
minnick27@reddit
I had a shitty little chair in my mancave (a tiny spare bedroom) that I recently replaced with a recliner. I didn't account for the reclining part of it in my measurements. It sits a foot and a half off the wall and basically takes up half of the room. I don't really need to get around it, but it looks ridiculous when I walk into the room.
Lucky-Remote-5842@reddit
They're still very popular, you just don't see them in Instagram or Pinterest homes because they're more functional than stylish.
SteampunkRobin@reddit
We have a modern version with buttons instead of a lever, and it tilts forward when needed so my 95 year old mother can stand up from it.
KevinDean4599@reddit
A lot of people who want something a bit more stylish tend to get large L shaped sofas for watching TV. recliners are still popular. especially with old people. go to any retirement community like Sun City and you'll find at least one in almost every home.
El_Polio_Loco@reddit
Kindof
The stand alone plush plaid recliner is certainly less in style than it once was.
Recliner couches seem to be more acceptable.
But some form of recliner is still commonplace I think.
Wonderful_Shower_793@reddit
My XH bought one 14 years ago and took it with him when we split. It’s still going strong. Personally, I prefer the recliners that look more like regular chairs, but my kids broke them after 8+ years. I wanted to have it reupholstered and the broken foot rest replaced, but for some reason I don’t remember, that didn’t happen and we got rid of them. I’d rebuy the same ones now that the kids are older but they’re a LOT more expensive now.
Unusual_Memory3133@reddit
We have a two seat reclining leather couch but not a LaZBoy
AcrobaticTrouble3563@reddit
So double lazyboy. Recliner 2.0.
pinniped90@reddit
We have a reclining couch but not that manufacturer.
But yes it's still a widely available brand.
Laylasita@reddit

BipolarSolarMolar@reddit

Common_Tiger1526@reddit
Yes, but to be fair my neck of the woods happens to be about 20 minutes from laZboy's world headquarters
themistycrystal@reddit
Yes, the recliner I'm currently lazing in is one I use every day. It sits across the room from my husband's recliner.
betterbetterthings@reddit
Yes we saw them in LaZBoy store when we bought our sofa last year. Their sofas are nice, not reclining. Although they had reclining sofas too
We have two recliners from Art Van before it out of business. We don’t use them much but they are nice. One us also rocking
freeski919@reddit
I inherited my dad's brown leather La-Z-Boy when he passed away. It goes with nothing in our house, but it sits in our sunroom anyhow, where I'll sit and bask in the warm sun on a spring Sunday morning.
AtheneSchmidt@reddit
Yes. The ikea couch broke last year, and my family decided to replace it with recliners. All three of us got our own, and while they are all a dark red instead of the tan or green they always seem to be on TV, they are basically the same Lazy Boy that every lazy dad in a sitcom or TV show owns. And they are very comfortable.
Consistent_Damage885@reddit
I don't know off hand know someone who doesn't have a recliner. I love mine.
Sea-Bill78@reddit
Looks like they reported a 3.8% revenue increase in their quarterly earnings so they are definitely a thing and selling.
MPord@reddit
I still have one but I want to replace it with a much smaller one since this one is much too big for me.
roastedandflipped@reddit
Common and there are small ones for apartments
pikkdogs@reddit
We buy them for each baby that we have. A comfortable rocker is a must.
Aggressive_tako@reddit
I bought one when pregnant with baby #2. Much better than a traditional rocking chair or glider, even if it is less esthetic in a nursery.
-RedRocket-@reddit
I associate them with previous generations and eras. They are peak 1980s boomer suburbia.
tmckearney@reddit
