Do you ever sit on the floor in your home?

If so, where and why?
Someone called me weird for sitting on the floor by my backdoor when it's sunny but windy outside. I don't have a comfy chair to easily move there and this is easy.
Just got me thinking about when else I sit on the floor and if others ever do it.
Other examples:
Eating dinner at the coffee table.
Watching TV with the sofa as a backrest.
Puzzles.
CraftingP291@reddit
I did it all the time, until I got too old to get back up again. I miss it.
Exact-Character313@reddit
All the time when playing with my dog
No-Daikon3645@reddit
No, simply because I get stuck and looked like a beached whale when I have to turn on my hands and knees and then find a handle to help me stand.
Many_Ad_4130@reddit
I have under floor heating - any more questions?
amillstone@reddit
Is it as expensive to run as it sounds?
Many_Ad_4130@reddit
You run it on a lower temperature than wall mounted radiators as you have a larger area.
We did change to an ASHP with our refurb last year and since we ripped the house apart we decided to go for the heat pump as our gas boiler was at its end of life and we would have needed a larger one anyway.
We run our UFH on 40C. A conventional gas boiler needs to heat up the water to 60-80C for radiator.
Savings per year is £400 so far and the PV panels go up in 4 weeks.
PastLanguage4066@reddit
Same. We have a crazily happy cat.
Ublot@reddit
Omg that must be amazing
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
I need this
GretalRabbit@reddit
Be warned, you will become a floor snob and will be disappointed in other people’s houses when you get cold feet.
Many_Ad_4130@reddit
I already am 😂
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
I'm already a bit of a floor snob and get disappointed with dirty floors and sad carpets and other people's houses.
Many_Ad_4130@reddit
It’s great and so nice to walk barefoot in winter and warming my bum reading a book.
Btw I think sitting on the floor is so earthing
Agile-Rock4248@reddit
Love sitting on the floor - I have chronic back pain and sometimes sitting or laying on the floor is better than the sofa. And yeah doing puzzles on the floor is good x
AshaNyx@reddit
Only time I do it is when I'm eating but I had an Asian ex who made it into a habit.
plantlady1-618@reddit
Yea I do, for puzzles, playing games, wrapping gifts etc. Not weird and very good to keep muscles working well as we age. Use it or lose it. You'll be the one able to still get out of your chair without assistance when you're 80.
Training-Ambition621@reddit
I sit almost exclusively with my legs crossed - on the bed, sofa, floor, its much more comfortable for my hips and back. And guessing its genetic as my dad was the same.
Flowers330@reddit
All the time, it's the biggest chair and it's everywhere!
Millietree@reddit
🤣🤣 Laughs in mid fifties
cheese_fancier@reddit
Exactly.
rebelallianxe@reddit
Ha yeah I'm 49 and thinking, 'well, I used to sit on the floor' 🫠
Whithorsematt@reddit
49 and sitting on the raptor right now.
dikicker@reddit
Also how are you supposed to do your Lego sets on the coffee table
FawnTi@reddit
Get a portable fold out lap tray. Now you can sit on your couch or your bed and do Lego!
liltrex94@reddit
The best part is it doesn't need to be in your home, the floor exists everywhere. I'll sit on the floor whenever it is necessary.
Responsible-Hat-679@reddit
This.
Safe-Professional556@reddit
Not so much now as I struggle to get back up, but still often sit on the stairs. When I was younger by the fire or radiator. Or to watch TV if the chair was in the wrong place or occupied.
Apprehensive-List794@reddit
I’ve been sight impaired from birth but we didn’t know until I was 19. I used to sight on the floor despite my glasses to watch TV, it’s the only way I could see it. Still is, but now I just watch shit on my laptop or use special glasses that look like surgeons glasses to watch the actual TV but those give me a migraine so I don’t use them often.
FaeWolf4@reddit
Yes it helps me feel grounded. When I'm really overwhelmed i starfish on the floor for a while. It helps to calm me.
MearaMearaOnTheWall@reddit
As a father of a toddler I'm constantly sat on the floor whether it's playing games with him, eating at his etc
Worldly_Wafer_6635@reddit
I love to lie on the carpet in my bedroom, paid good money, and I WILL enjoy it.
Lopsided_Snower@reddit
when I first moved in to my house and lived alone for the first time, I slept on the landing with a duvet a few times, just because there was no one to tell me not to - I was 43
Putrid_Promotion_841@reddit
It's a really liberating thing isn't it. I once spent a couple of hours just shouting swear words to myself. Then made myself stop because it was a little too enjoyable and habits can stick easily with me.
I made a point of sleeping in every room when I moved in (drew the line at the shed as it was winter)! The porch was cosy with a fan heater on though!
Fun-Meal-9839@reddit
When I moved into halls of residence for my final year the first thing I did was eat an entire Vienetta in one sitting. Just because I finally could.
here-but-not-present@reddit
I love this for you. Having space, money and time as an adult let's you reach new heights 😎🔥
GoldAndDogs@reddit
Why weren’t you allowed to eat a full one in your parents house? Strange thing to not allow surely.
Worldly_Wafer_6635@reddit
Did you see the price of Vienetta back in the day.
Sorry we didn't all grow up rich. 😉
StereotypicallBarbie@reddit
We only had that at Christmas.
Worldly_Wafer_6635@reddit
We only got it when it was in a deal with a bargain bucket.
Fun-Meal-9839@reddit
Yes. The bargain bucket. If memory serves, this might be what introduced me to Vienetta.
Fun-Meal-9839@reddit
😄
Fun-Meal-9839@reddit
The way I was raised, we were very big on sharing (believe me when I got out into the really world I realised this wasn't as normal as I thought it was)
No one would eat a family sized anything without offering (especially my parents so I just followed in their steps).
The funny thing is , as the 'growing boy' of the house I probably ate 90% of whatever snacks came into the house. Just not in one sitting.
Worldly_Wafer_6635@reddit
There was 4 of us, it was a game of thrones to see who could drink the most cans of Coke.
Lopsided_Snower@reddit
What’s a game thrones in this context, I’ve not read the book or seen the series?
Worldly_Wafer_6635@reddit
I wasn't anticipating a line of my question on my comment. I haven;t watched or read it.
But it was a ruthless battle to the death.
Lopsided_Snower@reddit
Haha amazing =)
Worldly_Wafer_6635@reddit
Your back must have been in great shape!
C0nnectionTerminat3d@reddit
recently bought a rug for my bedroom (we have wooden floors) for this reason. Words can’t describe how excited i am to have carpet time.
Worldly_Wafer_6635@reddit
you need a lunchable, capri sun, fruit wind-up and a nap!
0100000101101000@reddit
Those paper straws have ruined capri sun
Worldly_Wafer_6635@reddit
They come with paper straws no!?!?!?
Hell to the no no no
fothergillfuckup@reddit
No, it's just you.
hengehanger@reddit
I used to, all the time. These days it just a little too hard to get up again though...
originallyale@reddit
Every day! Mostly the living room, but also bedrooms and kitchen, in the spring/summer the garden too! Usually because I want to play with my dogs or just need floor time to stretch my legs and back out. I’m definitely a floor dweller!
Herlock-Sholme5@reddit
Nope, i’d struggle to get back up again, wish I could still do it but not possible anymore.
SkipsH@reddit
I sit on the stairs sometimes, does that count?
regulator202@reddit
Yeah the stairs are a good spot
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
A specific spot on the stairs? Top, bottom or middle? Is there a window?
MelodicAd2213@reddit
It’s not at the bottom, it’s not at the top. But this is the place where I always stop
Bells9831@reddit
Lol. Thank you dr. Seuss :)
MelodicAd2213@reddit
I thought it was Kermit the frog and his nephew Robin
Bells9831@reddit
Lol. Not sure. It just sounded Seuss-ian to me
Not_A_Toaster_0000@reddit
I got a hint of Grand Old Duke of York
SkipsH@reddit
Halfway down, no window but I can see out. Sometimes I just feel like sitting halfway down.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
I just went and did it. Realised while I was sat there that I also do this sometimes.
Left-Yak-1090@reddit
Check out Mr Moneybags here, with his stairs in his house to a second floor. Some of us poors dont have the luxury of a second storey, smh my head
(/s just in case)
velos85@reddit
Yes, and lay on the floor. It's so good to help reset your body.
WitchyRedhead86@reddit
It’s so grounding isn’t it?
regulator202@reddit
Literally
blinky84@reddit
When I start feeling mentally crap I notice it in my body just being sore.
I always feel better after rolling around on the floor for a while, just stretching in ways that feel good. Some of it is yoga-type poses, but that's coincidence rather than design. It's not yoga. It's just moving my body in ways that feel needed.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
I also sometimes lay on the floor. It's nice to see your house from a different perspective .
SpectreSingh89@reddit
Being brought up in an Indian fam of course I sit on the floor often: breakfast, TV and playing with kids.
CalmStomach3@reddit
I do this too, happy i'm no the only one
kbrown05515@reddit
Yup. To play with my doggo
Rosy-Lee-1974@reddit
I have a bad knee so no. It would be very difficult for me to get up.
Artistic-Cream6921@reddit
I'll fucking sit wherever I fucking want to in my own fucking house thank you very fucking much!
PublixEnemynumberone@reddit
Dominate the floor!
BigBunneh@reddit
Always! Living room floor watching telly with the dog. Sitting in the hall with my back to the radiator if I'm talking to my wife in her study. They're the two usual spots, I rarely watch TV sitting in a chair.
Specialist-Top-406@reddit
I sit on the floor all the time, and sometimes I even sit on furniture cross legged to imitate sitting on the floor.
I hate sitting in chairs that are too stiff, I’ll always choose the floor.
If I feel stiff or restrained, I’ll sit on the floor.
87catmama@reddit
Yes, I have a toddler so I spend a lot of time sitting on the living room floor doing puzzles or playing tic tac toe or whatever.
Soggy_Detective_4737@reddit
Oh, all the time.
I'll occasionally scooch onto the sofa, but most of the time, I sit on the floor. I sit there and play with my grandson, sort through laundry, surround myself with veg to be prepped and use a footstool as the table. I'll sit on the floor of the conservatory and watch the birds, or in the porch to watch my grandson race his Poppa along the driveway.
Got family over, or visiting and there's a bunch of us? I'll sit on the floor and leave chairs for those who need them more.
Sutraner@reddit
Apparently I'm the odd one out for not doing it.
Only time I sit on the floor is if I'm vomiting down the loo. Not something I really enjoy doing
Eskarina_W@reddit
The only time I think I would sit on the floor is if I was making flat pack furniture. When I visit my sister however, I sit on the floor all the time because she has 2 kids under 3.
WarmCat_UK@reddit
Yeah I sit on the floor to play with my 2.5year-old. Sometimes sit on the floor because my cat likes me to also.
LavenderAndHoneybees@reddit
An obvious yes now because I have a toddler, but I've always been a 'floor person' --- I've disclaimed many times over the years to concerned people swearing they can squish up tighter on the sofa 'no no really, I'm a ✨️floor person✨️'. I learned how to do my makeup sat on the floor in front of the big mirror (and still do in hotel rooms), I like sitting on tiled floors in the summer where it's nice and cool, I wrap presents on the floor because there's more space and no midair for anything to fall into.
Floor person.
Kent_Tog@reddit
Not since I was 8.
Inner-Floor-5827@reddit
I don't think I have seen my stepdad sitting on a chair or sofa at home unless there are visitors. He always sits on the floor with his back to the couch. He eats sitting on the floor and so does my mum. My mum does sit on the couch, its only when she is eating she sits on the floor.
I don't sit on the floor. My backside would hurt as I'm flat as a board lol.
YetAnotherMia@reddit
I sit on the floor at my desk
AquarianViolist@reddit
I used to in my old house with carpets but it doesn’t feel right on hard floors!
bonshui@reddit
I sit on the floor leaning against my bed, looking out over the balcony
KeyOccasion5175@reddit
Yeah I naturally do lots of things on the floor upstairs (upstairs carpet down stairs hard flooring) I'll sort the washing, sit with the kids, Playing and that but I went without a rug in my living room for ages and when I finally got one I basically did everything sat on the floors for weeks, watched TV, chill on phone, crocheted a blanket down there just like ya know carpet time but when ever you want!
timbouk82@reddit
I spend more time laying on the floor in all rooms / areas of my house… Im more chill lay on the floor
irv81@reddit
I'll sometimes sit on either the living room floor or the kitchen floor with the dog
He seems to appreciate me getting down on the floor and being with him from time to time
Gullflyinghigh@reddit
Literally am whilst typing this. I wanted to stroke the cat, so sat down to do so.
here-but-not-present@reddit
As a kid, I pretty much LIVED on the floor entirely by choice. I loved it. Sitting, lying, sleeping, all of it.
As an adult, I spent a lot of time on the floor just reading, sitting with my dogs etc (they preferred the couch though!), but then I moved to an incredibly draughty, incredibly old cottage six years ago. I don't do it anywhere near as much nowadays, but I do love sitting on my front doorstep on a sunny day with a cuppa and my chickens.
clovenheart1066@reddit
Yes. We will just lie in the middle of the living room. Me and my daughter colour lying on our bellies. I lean against the settee.
IndividualCurious322@reddit
I sit on the floor near my bookshelf when I'm organizing and collating them.
chasimm3@reddit
When I get restless leg syndrome it helps to sit on the floor for some reason. Mainly because I can't twitch and stuff without bothering my partner on the sofa.
clearskinsis@reddit
yes it's comfortable to sit and lie on the floor
Asher-D@reddit
Only ever to play with the kids, otherwise, never.
SameCollege4578@reddit
I sit on the floor using the sofa as a backrest all the time. I've also been known to sit ON my back doorstep with the door open. The tiled floor is cool and refreshing. Don't know what's weird about it?
leah_amelia@reddit
I meditate and do yoga most days, so I'm often on the living room floor for that. We've got decent carpet so it's alright for the 15-20 minutes it takes to do it.
BeanOnAJourney@reddit
Of course I do, usually sitting room and conservatory, for many reasons including when i'm playing with my dog, when my dog has taken my seat on the settee, and sometimes just because I like sitting on the floor.
franki-pinks@reddit
Sounds really weird but I love laying on the floor with my legs up the wall so I’m at a 90 degree angle. I don’t know why but I find it so comfy. I’ve even fell asleep like it before with my headphones in listening to an audiobook lol
crickety-crack@reddit
I have a step, then a landing, then a set of stairs that lead upstairs. I sit with my legs against this wall on the landing :) I semi recently moved into a house for the first time in ages after living in flats forever. Super nice to just... Chill on your stairs!
franki-pinks@reddit
My husband will regularly kneel on the stairs and have his laptop on the landing and says it’s comfy.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
I relax in bed with my legs like that
SomeWomanFromEngland@reddit
That’s a great way to cool down in hot weather.
franki-pinks@reddit
Same all the time
champion_soundz@reddit
I work 10hr shifts and started doing this when I get home and it's blissful
Aggravating_Trade943@reddit
It's very good for you and your nervous system in particular! Would explain why you could relax so well. If you're interested in the benefits Google legs up the wall and rejoice in how healthy you must be
itsableeder@reddit
I regularly sit on the floor with my back against the sofa in the living room, or just lie on the rug. I also sit on the floor in my partner's office to talk to her fairly often.
Sitting on the floor is great.
Tawoooo@reddit
i sit on the floor infront of the sofa rather than on the sofa
darkarcher9210@reddit
Sounds like you need to invest in a comfy chair
Fading-Ghost@reddit
I’ll sit down on the floor, back against a wall and play guitar for hours
fluffy_samoyed@reddit
Yes, because I have a dog and he's closer to the floor than he is the ceiling.
Youppi27@reddit
Yes. When the dog is due a talking to.
grunt56@reddit
On the floor in the front room with my back against the bottom of the sofa to play videogames
Chance_Way5601@reddit
My mrs is a Filipina. This means we sit on the floor at the coffee table, and we eat our meals with our hands mainly.
Fit-Case-7857@reddit
53, it’s harder than it used to be on my bum, but every night I find ten mins to sit on the room floor with my dogs, best 10 mins of my day
Fiercat99@reddit
Frequently, but mostly when playing with my dog, or sorting stuff out. I also lay on the path in my garden the other day playing with the aforementioned dog
iamsheena@reddit
All the time. Sometimes I just want to sit on a hard surface.
Clothes_Chair_Ghost@reddit
With my knees!? I’d never get back up!
Nervous-Trouble-4628@reddit
The only time I sit on the floor in my home is when I’ve fallen. Otherwise, it hurts my back.
liltrex94@reddit
I'll sit wherever I want. The floor is fine when I am doing something I need to do on the floor.
I will also do this outside of my home. If the floor is a better place to sit on, I will sit on it.
Aggressive_Library49@reddit
I rarely sat on a chair or sofa until arthritis hit. Now even getting down is a challenge, unless by accident.
MurderousButterfly@reddit
I sit on the floor and lot. Apparently its an autistic trait
Flashy-Ad-2367@reddit
All of the above.
It oddly, even though you are in the same room, gives a different perspective
Optimal_Tension9657@reddit
Yes, growing up my Dad would lay across the whole couch so my brother and I had to sit on the floor . It’s kinda automatic now if I go anywhere with only a few seats
GAZZAA42@reddit
Nope, if I sat on the floor I would have a hell of a job getting up again
Kakiwee@reddit
I got extra thick carpet and underlay so I make use of it.
Active-Strawberry-37@reddit
I do like sitting on my stairs and have a nice think
HarketSavoy@reddit
I used to but the comfort is long gone and then trying to get up is almost a struggle.
Goatsandducks@reddit
I sit on my floor a lot so does my partner. My friends always comment on it but I find it comfy.
usedqueentemptation@reddit
totally relatable, i do it too
abbieadeva@reddit
I used to always sit on the floor. Lean stains my sofa and put my feet up against the fireplace. I’ve rearranged the living room a bit now so I can’t sit like that anymore.
Only time I sit on the floor now is when I’m playing with my toddler but my back and knees don’t like it
glasshomonculous@reddit
Love it. I’m also in my late (very late) 30s so I enjoy the “get up from the floor without using your hands or knees” challenge that I put myself through.
Good way to monitor my mobility
meowcatpanda@reddit
I used to when I still could get back up off the floor 😂 floor is comfy!
TylerDarkness@reddit
Yes, I have kids. Lots of kid stuff involves sitting on the floor.
rikkiprince@reddit
Sure. All the time. Why not?
Society encourages an aversion to doing things they associate as being child-like. Sitting on the floor. Using your finger to trace the word you're reading. Playing games. Running around in a field. "Grow up", they say. "No", says I!
leftintheshaddows@reddit
I used to. But I fear I would have to live down there permanently if I tried now cause my back would not allow me to get back up.
stauer88@reddit
I've always sat on the floor.
Partly because of height and partly because of to many people in a room.
Growing up there were 6 of us but only 5 seats in the living room so my spot was always against the radiator with a book.
Now when I visit my parents there are extra spouses and grandchildren so I still sit on the floor.
Plus, I'm a short arse so if I'm sat with my back against the couch then my feet don't touch the floor. If I can't tuck my feet up because it's considered impolite then it's really uncomfortable and I'm much happier on the floor.
Another point is when I'm feeling quite stressed it can be a good way to ground myself.
Sitting on the floor for the win!
OkTechnician4610@reddit
Yes often I sit by the door in the sun as well & sit on floor on patio. In house sometimes too our coffee table is low & I just sit on a cushion
NefariousnessFew8314@reddit
Literally sat on the floor right now. In my husband’s office room cos there’s no other chairs. But the floor is perfectly comfortable and I use the wall as a back rest.
doegrey@reddit
All the time, anywhere- I have pets!
It’s actually good for your health and flexibility to be able to sit on the floor and stand and if you can do it without using your hands (core strength) it’s even better!
Often people who don’t like sitting on the floor, don’t like it cause they don’t have the strength and flexibility to do so!
IAmDyspeptic@reddit
I tend not to sit on the floor, but I do sit on my stairs quite often. They're just by the back door so I'll sit there with the door open and watch the birds on my bird table.
destria@reddit
Basically all the time but I have a toddler so I'm always playing with him on the floor.
JuniorChubb@reddit
I do most.of the time. I find it comfy, also means at 50 I have no issues getting up off the floor as I am used to getting up from the floor.
Only downside for me is hard skin on ankles from where they rub on hard floor.
tiggergirluk76@reddit
I'm 50, and also regularly sit on the floor, but still have to do some undignified half roll to get on my knees to stand up properly.
JuniorChubb@reddit
My wife does that roll, I know it well!
missread4ever@reddit
I'm 65 and often sit on the floor, usually cross legged and reading the newspaper. I don't have any trouble getting up...yet
JuniorChubb@reddit
I swear it's like a cheat code for leg strength, stops you sitting still and the extra effort needed to get up keeps them strong.
From you said hopefully I got at least another 15 years of floor sitting.
Sharp_Budget_4416@reddit
Kitchen floor with my feet pointed at the fan heater. Closest thing I've found to standing in the sun in this country.

It your home sit where you want. As as the floor is clean I don’t see who could object.
Cybermanc@reddit
TV with sofa as a backrest. The dog isn't allowed up, I go down to his level for a cuddle while I watch TV.
SkeletorOnLSD@reddit
I sit on the floor when I'm feeding/watering my tarantulas. Much safer than keeping them on the shelf, a fall from that height would be fatal, and it's not worth taking the chance.
clo_fu@reddit
Being able to get up and down easily off the floor is a great indicator of your health and mobility as you age. Keep on floor sitting!
crqmaa@reddit
i used to sit on the floor to revise because i had a lot of space to lay my papers and stuff out
CraftyTadpole2488@reddit
I would start in one part of my room and by the end of my revision session I’d end up in a different part. Also if I’d start revision sitting on my bed, I’d always end up on the floor at some point

When i eat cereal I sit on the floor with my back against the sofa. Reminds me of when I was a small child, it makes me feel safe and it's a great comfort. I fucking love cereal man.
EvaKatz@reddit
I like it. Feels different.
Moomoocaboob@reddit
Reading this from the floor right now. In my kids bedroom sorting their old clothes. There’s a futon sofa bed next to me but the floor is preferable.
I also sit on the kitchen floor whilst waiting for the toast to pop.
Candrath@reddit
I don't often sit on the floor, but I do sometimes pull my blankets off the bed, roll out a camping mat and sleep down there.
Started doing it so I'd only have to heat one room. Made a thing of it because I'm an adult and I can do what I want.
Fun-Meal-9839@reddit
No, I'll catch a chill and be sick for days 😔
misswaggoner@reddit
We have a Juliette balcony, the sun shines in for a few hours and I bought a big bean bag and now sit with open doors when it’s sunny. It’s lovely
Aphr0dite19@reddit
No, because my 50-something menopausal body would lock in place and I wouldn’t be able to get up! But my kids and their dad are floor dwellers, I guess there’s more room to spread out.
Behavingdark@reddit
I have always loved sitting with my legs crossed like when I was at school , but now I have problems with my back and legs 😞 enjoy every minute of it regardless of what anyone thinks .

I often sit on my front doorstep, sometimes the front lawn. It's always lovely and warm, if I have time I'll have my morning coffee and sit there! Big hedge so it's nice and private (mostly). Kid regularly plays on the front lawn or front of our house (it's a big, three way windy path, kids love riding along it).
Thankfully building a new shed next, so I'll have somewhere to store any furniture I do get over winter!

I used to sit on the floor all the time. I recently moved house and I've noticed I don't do it any more
Bells9831@reddit
Sometimes to sit at the coffee table. I like sitting on the floor cross-legged sometimes. I like to believe it has some benefit...if nothing else than to remind of my childhood lol
Petrosinella94@reddit
Yeah to sit with the cat
dbltax@reddit
No, because dog hair.
No matter how much you vacuum, it's there.
Accomplished-Pen-69@reddit
The last time I was able to sit crossed legged on the floor was as a child. Now when I do sit on the floor its a ever changing pose, lean back, side lean, other side lean and back. 😆
williamsdb@reddit
Only if my granddaughter make me to play some game with her!
ohsaycanyourock@reddit
Sitting on the floor leaning back against the sofa is weirdly comfy. Sometimes you just want a firmer seat!
My cat is currently lying in the sunny patch by the back door absolutely loving life - if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me 😆
boudicas_shield@reddit
I very often lie on the floor when we're watching films. Our couch is not really all that comfortable (and we're not at a place where we can really afford a new one), and the very comfortable chair that I bought for myself is usually occupied by my cat. (I do sometimes sit in it, anyway, but it depends on how much energy I have to deal with the offended cat who spends the entire time pointedly trying to reclaim his seat and foist me out of it).
Useful_Hawk_1470@reddit
I spend more time on the floor than on chairs. I can understand if you have difficulty getting back up after sitting down on the floor but for all other people I don’t get why you wouldn’t
Intrepid_Bearz@reddit
I’m old. If I sit on the floor, call help as I’m not getting back up by myself 😩
messedup73@reddit
I used to but since my shoulders and back have got messed up can no longer .When my kids were younger used to always sit on the floor near my front door to keep an eye on them playing often reading a book or ended up drinking wine in the evenings with the other mums on light summer nights.
HeverAfter@reddit
You do you. Life is too short for this.
RoutineCloud5993@reddit
Every single day. Can't interact with a baby as easily from a chair
Haunting_Cell_8876@reddit
Yeah! I sit on the floor and play guitar. Sometimes when I'm extra comfortable I even lay down.
Sad-Peace@reddit
I sit on my living room floor a lot as my sofa is quite low so I can lean on it
WulfyGeo@reddit
I have a small balcony. So sometimes I open the doors wide and sit or lie on the floor just inside
Vamperstein-Bex@reddit
pretty much daily! to watch my portable DVD player, do various crafts, because I'm bored, to tired to stand up after exercising, play with my nans cat, there's no where else to sit, there's lots of good reasons to sit on the floor!
reader270@reddit
Yep, I sit on the floor sometimes when the cats are prowling around and they go round me in circles, head butting me. It’s oddly pleasant.
WanderWomble@reddit
I sat on the floor this morning to open my birthday presents 😆
Objective_Result2530@reddit
To talk to the dog
herwiththepurplehair@reddit
I used to but if I do it now the dog jumps on me and he is quite heavy
Margotkittie@reddit
No, but I did as a kid all the time. These days it's too much effort to get my fat, old, out of shape ass back up off the floor.
pixelunicorns@reddit
I sit on the floor sometimes during tense moments of video games. Partly habit from being a kid but also my sofa is way to heavy to move closer.
I also sit by my backdoor to enjoy sun or rain without being in it. And I always sit on the floor if I'm organising something. Just put all the contents on the floor with me in the middle, creating sorted piles.
After thinking about it I clearly sit on the floor alot. Maybe I don't need my chairs so much.
PiskieW@reddit
If my two cats are sitting in 'my' seat - of course!
pm_me_your_amphibian@reddit
I’m sat on the stairs with a coffee right now. I don’t sit on the tiled floors to be fair but everywhere carpeted is game
ahmeouni@reddit
I'm sitting on the floor of my home office right now cause I can't stand being in my computer chair any longer
chuill@reddit
This whole thread hurts my knees 🥹
Namerakable@reddit
I sit on the floor when I'm organising and cleaning. It helps to have everything laid out on the floor.
I've been given looks for doing the same thing at work when I'm organising papers.
finishmyleg@reddit
Becuase my dog is useless and won't come up on the sofa for hugs.
Original_Bad_3416@reddit
I do like sitting on the floor as the sofa as back rest, it frees up the sofa for when I have guests once a year
tumshy@reddit
Yes and I have a memory foam rug so it’s extra squishy!
Broken_Lampshade@reddit
I sit on the floor to eat my tea. Being the youngest meant all the seats in the living room were taken, and even though my older siblings aren't there anymore the habit stuck
tom-mart@reddit
Yes, mostly when I wrestle with my dog, often when I pretend to exercise.
Kyber92@reddit
I have a 2 year old so yes, all the time
JubileeFist@reddit
I used to have to sit on the floor when I smoked - no idea where this habit came from, but would sit on the floor with my back up against the sofa and ashtray beside me on the floor while I smoked.
I have a habit of sitting in front of the fire whenever I need to do something eg. sort out my bag, fix something, etc. I assume that comes from years living in a cold af house.
sexy_bellsprout@reddit
I have a small beanbag, so sometimes I lean that against the wall or bed. But actually just sitting on my yoga mat in the middle of the floor can be really comfy for a little bit. I also like lying on floor to crunch my back 👌
CommissionFair1999@reddit
Either on the lounge floor to play with my toddler, or the floor of the kitchen when I want a minute to myself 😅
NeedleworkerNew2746@reddit
lol same gurl
Draenogg@reddit
I bought a kapok folding floor cushion specifically for this purpose. There's a spot under the dining room window which gets all the spring sunshine so it's my preferred reading spot between January and March, and it's much comfier with some padding between me and the carpet.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
I think I should treat myself to one of these.
blinky84@reddit
If you don't have space for a big folding floor cushion, look at a zafu meditation cushion. I love mine.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
Oooh, much more budget friendly too.
PurpleOctopus6789@reddit
Of course. Why wouldn't I? It's clean, I don't wear shoes. I stretch on my floor, why wouldn't I sit on it? there's something peaceful about lying down on the floor next to my cats for a few minutes on a sunny day. Sitting down on a floor to work with my laptop is a nice change form a chair.
Anyone who judges you for that is the weird one.
I will quite literally sit anywhere on the floor, i don't care. I find it odd when people refuse to sit on the floor like it's some big faux pas.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
Id sit down anywhere too. Recently sat on the floor at a bus stop that has no seats.
PurpleOctopus6789@reddit
This. If I am wearing my clothes on public transport they get washed immediately when I get home, so it makes no difference if I sit on the ground or dusty floor as long as it's not raining.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
Another reason rain sucks
snarkmaiden5@reddit
All the time. I think its fairly normal.
Especially in summer, it feels cooler down there, I sit by the door and get a nice breeze
mister_meaner7@reddit
Yes all the time, a week last Thursday our new suite arrived, I can’t get comfortable on it at all. Might just be the worst £12,000 I spent in a while. Where as my carpet is super thick it has a great underlay and it’s a lot more comfortable.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
12k? Mind sharing a link as I'm curious.
Tried jumping around on it to try and soften it a bit?
sambxiv@reddit
Right now yes because the delivery of my sofa today has been pushed back to Monday. So we have no seating in the living room.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
This question must have pissed you off a bit
Plodo99@reddit
Only when eating pizza in the living room
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
Interesting. Only pizza?
Illustrious-Air-7777@reddit
I sit on the floor because no matter how wrecked you get you can’t fall off it. Or that was my excuse in my teens. Now, in my sixties it’s sometimes a case of sit down or fall down, so I will sit anywhere rather than faint. Yes I get funny looks but it generates less attention than suddenly passing out.
Sensitive-Issue84@reddit
I'm 60. I sat on the floor until it started to hurt my back a few years ago. I would still if my dog wasn't such an ass when I get down there. He thinks I'm playing dog and won't stop licking my face. Lol! I used to sit in front of the couch and watch TV also sat on my stairs in the sun when I could to relax.
AlternativeAd1984@reddit
Yes, have a 9mo baby and we do lots of floor time. Got a big foam mat in place of a rug to save your knees kneeling down all the time!
Remote-Field4624@reddit
I'm disabled to a degree so no. But if your posture and sitting position is ok well everyone can stfu really
Adult me see less but honestly is alot of women I was around did more than men by a long shot.
As long your on a valid place which I feel you are I'd be ok with it.
And if I wasn't or was like why I'd ask you and if you said is very comfortable for me I'd be like well hell yes.
I used too myself here and there. ...
Away-Ad4393@reddit
Yes all the time, I always have but have no real explanation for it except I like it 😊
Manifestival1@reddit
All the time since I got kittens 😸
Smeeble09@reddit
Yes, wrapping presents, sorting things, or playing games/Lego with my kids.
Sometimes I'll grab a cushion and lay down on the floor just to stretch out.
yourefunny@reddit
I have to because I have young kids but as a 37 year old with fucked knees and a bad back. I do not enjoy it!!
glytxh@reddit
My day starts by sitting on the kitchen floor drinking my tea while my cat eats her breakfast.
Shes very adamant about this routine.
I also still build my Lego sets sitting on the floor with a little table. It’s kinda cosy.
I’ll often paint on the floor. It’s the biggest flat space in my home to lay a large canvas on.
It’s a no shoes household, so my floors are always relatively clean.
Bright-Energy-7417@reddit
Yes, working on something that needs space to lay things out, even listening to music and sorting through CDs. Or very obviously for workouts, the EVA floor panels for those are deliberately a comfortable surface.
inhindsite@reddit
I often lie on the floor next to the fire with my head propped up against the sofa on wintery days.
SignNotInUse@reddit
Yes. Theres a sunny spot in the living room that has the best cool breeze.
modigafox2000@reddit
I would do, but my kids insist the floor is lava
LeftSaidTed@reddit
In winter I would sit up against the radiator, which had the added plus of being joined by a cat when I had them
Experiment328095@reddit
I do! I’ve got huge floor cushions and we always eat dinner at the coffee table Japanese style 😂
instantiator@reddit
Sometimes I sit on the floor so the cats know I am guarding the cat flap* while they eat.
*It's chip activated and the hench neighbour cat can't get in but they don't seem to believe me when I explain that
Chopsticks_Charlie@reddit
I randomly squat around certain places but I think that's just the Eastern European in me tbf
PurpleOctopus6789@reddit
but do you squat the right way?
Chopsticks_Charlie@reddit
Arms on the knees
PurpleOctopus6789@reddit
but heels on or off the floor? that's the important part.
Chopsticks_Charlie@reddit
Nahh I can't do heel down, usually on the ball of my foot
PyramidHeadSmokeWeed@reddit
Not Eastern European but I'll quite often squat in my kitchen while I'm eating something...
... right next to my dining table.
Chopsticks_Charlie@reddit
Rolling a spliff I normally squat next to the coffee table as well
BalthazarOfTheOrions@reddit
All the time. Mostly because I'm with my children, or if my wife wants to eat in the living room (I prefer eating by a table) I'll sit on the floor so I don't make a mess on the sofa. I hate any kind of food mess on where I'm meant to sit, like the sofa or the bed.
Sm00thBrain300@reddit
Always! Usually with kids or dog cuddled up in my lap.
Gluebagger@reddit
gaming with the kids on the rug sitting
ldn-ldn@reddit
I spend a lot of time on the floor in general because I play with my cat a lot.
StanleyChuckles@reddit
All the time, my cats claim every seat I want.
Gothywinelady@reddit
I usually sit on the floor to put my shoes on. Not sure what I'll do when I'm too old.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
You'll end up with one of those giant shoe horns
Horrobla@reddit
All the time! We used to eat dinner with the backdoor open in the summer as kids and I still do this. I live with my father in law now and the floors are tiled so I don’t do it there but I prefer it over the sofas at my mums house
Rasty_lv@reddit
Sometimes, while gaming in living room. Sitting on floor and leaning against sofa is sometimes more comfortable
FletcherDervish@reddit
Yes, on a big cushion, usually when gaming, with the dogs all lying next to me as it's the best position in front of the telly, with the sofa as a backrest. And there's a warm spot when the heating is on too.
ConflictOfEvidence@reddit
I think this is an age thing. 20s - all the time, 40s - never.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
Oh no, my 40s are looming
bjb13@reddit
I’m 73 and still do it. I guess I’m just young at heart.
DameKumquat@reddit
Lounge floor sometimes. It's got underfloor heating.
Ancient-Awareness115@reddit
I am older and have muscle issues, my body hates me if I sit on the floor
poshbakerloo@reddit
I sometimes sit on my lounge carpet, it's got a good pile so it's very soft
Petrichor_ness@reddit
If I come into my living room and the (6 seater corner) sofa is occupied by my four dogs, it's easier to just sit on the floor.
Inevitable, one will then jump down to sit next to me and I'll hop up and take their spot...sucker!
Fancy-Professor-7113@reddit
I sit on the floor all the time, I especially like to sit on the floor with my back on the radiator when I'm cold.
fanatic_tarantula@reddit
Id try and probably not be able to get back up
WitchyRedhead86@reddit
I love sitting on the floor. Just wish we had a less hard floor and better newer carpets.
I love lying on soft carpets to stretch out and doing reading, art or crafting.
It’s not weird at all.
b135702@reddit
I eat dinner at my coffee table sitting on the floor! I do have a dining table but I just prefer the coffee table, it's near my speakers, window, and TV.
Decent-Cattle-332@reddit (OP)
I also have a dining table that has it's own TV but the living room carpet is decent.
itsheadfelloff@reddit
Yes but only in one specific place. I also struggle to sit cross legged for anything over 5 mins which also limits me.
ParisLondon56@reddit
Yes or others homes, especially when there is a big group of us. I dont like standing as I end up looming over them, plus my back likes the hardfloor over sofas at times.
Wooden-Bookkeeper473@reddit
Yeah got a nice thick rug and love to sit on it.
Most_Kiwi3141@reddit
Definitely. And use it as a giant table for drawing.
OrangeBeast01@reddit
You've taken it to heart what this person said. Weird just means out of the ordinary, which it is, and is not a bad thing.
Mizfit1991@reddit
I usually sit on the floor when playing the Xbox. A hangover from my teenage years.
I also like to sit on it with my dog cuddled in next to me.
nineteenthly@reddit
I used to a lot more than I do now, but I do sit on a gym ball a fair bit.
ilikecocktails@reddit
Yeah on the bedroom floor in front of the mirror when I’m doing my hair and makeup. That’s about it
Amazing-Visual-2919@reddit
Used to when I was younger. Now the sofa wins.
man-flu@reddit
I would offer a "No you're weird" back to them
To be with the kids, dog, and sometimes just because it feels right
zipitdirtbag@reddit
I sometimes sit on my back doorstep which is about one inch high and about one foot square. Just to sit for a few minutes in the garden.
Balanced-Order@reddit
I wfh and that’s how I generally work.
-WigglyLine-@reddit
You sit on floor, 50 euro fine!
EACH TIME!
Kezly@reddit
Yes, but I'm playing with the cat. If I didn't have a cat I probably wouldn't sit on the floor.
No_Worth_2271@reddit
i often kneel on the floor onto the sofa when i'm using my phone, idk why, it's just comfy
murrayflew@reddit
All the time, I love the floor.
_kapitan@reddit
no but i think i like the sort of person you are
MysticDolphin@reddit
All the time. I do have dogs though and I often get on the floor just to play with them.
But even with no dogs around I find it comfortable to sit on the floor with back against the wall pushing with my legs to keep my spine straight. Always feels like I’m stretching out the stiffness from being at a desk all day.
