If they want to get Northern Epirus let them go and die for it
To be fair the Greek diaspora has done enough fighting and dying for the Greek cause. From the Filiki Eteria which started the Greek indpendence movement, to the Greeks massacred in Pontus and Smyrna caught in Turkish reprisals due to Greek expansionism, to the Greeks who lost their homes in Cyprus due to Greek pursuit of enosis.
How about the Greeks in Greece step up a little! Lol!
Filiki etaireia wasn't diaspora Greeks. They were meeting in the diaspora for survival reasons.
Xanthos was born in Patmos. Skoufas in Arta, Tsakalov in Ioannina.
The Anatolian Greeks weren diaspora either. They lived there for thousands of years went to Greek schools and spoke Greek at home.
Americans and Asutralains with Greek ancestry are none of these. They are losers stirring shit 10,000 miles away. If you want come back to Greece and fight.
It was literally founded in Odessa by Phariotes. How it cannot be the diaspora. Unless you are telling me that Constantinople should be Greek? Geez, who irredentist now?

Americans and Australians with Greek ancestry are none of these
None of what? Greeks from Northern Epirus or Asia Minor? I think alot are.
They can't even speak Greek besides Pastitsio, yaya and feta. They don't know anything about modern Greek history and Greek realities
To be fair the Greeks that share these views are usually Greeks that a born there. The older generation. The younger kids don't give a shit. They might be told to wave a flag on a parade to make their grandparents happy and afterwards they probably don't give it another thought. They wouldn't even be able to point to Northern Epirus on a map... they probably don't even realise it's not part of Greece.
I told you where the Filiki Etaireia were born. In Greece. None of them were 3rd generation immigrants. All were Greek born and fled to Odessa.
Almost all Greeks in Anatolia spoke Greek or Greek dialects. And those that spoke Turkish very rarely rebeleed because ethe vast majority has been turkified.
Don't stir up shit 10,000 miles away. I don't give Australia advice on how to handle Indonesia or China, you have zero things happening for you in Greece. If Turkey got into a war with Greece you'd be still in Australia. If Greeks get killed in a war with Albania you'd still be in Australia. You have nothing to lose, so don't stir up shit from the easy vantage point of living abroad with an Australian citizenship.
I'm not calling for irredentism, I'm just saying those in the diaspora calling for irredentism arnt 4th generation, they are usually born there.
In regard to you knowledge of Greek history please do some reading as it's insulting that someone who is from Greece can make such idiotic statement. And I say this is for your own good.
To make statement like those who spoke "Turkish rarely rebelled becuase they were Turkified". Like what does that mean? The population exchanges had nothing to do with what language anyone spoke or if they were Turkified. It was based on religion. It's actually mind-blowing that you as a Greek isnt aware of this.
Of those that were in the population exchange, almost all spoke Greek.
East Thrace Greeks, Constantinople Greeks, Smyrna Greek, East Pontus Greeks all spoke Greek. Only the tiny minority of Karamanlides and West Pontus (τουρκόφωνοι) didn't speak Greek. All in all would be less than 5%
Don't wag your finger if you don't know what you're talking about.
Far out mate, you go on a rant about how conservative the diaspora Greeks are but now spreading nationalistic nonsense.
All in all would be less than 5%
It would have been higher than 5%. The Karamanlides alone are often estimated at around 100,000 Turkish-speaking Orthodox Christians, which already gets you over 5% by themselves. And they weren’t the only ones.
Just like in Macedonia you had villages that spoke Slavic but identified as Greek, across Anatolia there were plenty of Orthodox communities whose everyday language was Turkish.
The vast majority of turkified Greeks today live in Turkey and identify as Turks. They even converted to Islam as to not pay taxes.
Only those who converted. Those that were Christian couldn't stay, even if they wanted too. This was the same with Greek speaking Muslims in Greece.
That isn’t my intention at all so I apologize if you take it that way, I just posted this cause I thought it was funny, but of course it’s the Balkans so it turns into a major controversy…
Truly this guy must be a Golden Dawn supporter or something. Shame. 99.9% of greeks in greece do not want to annex Northern Epirus or any other region on that matter. I reported him anyway.
Yet another inflammatory post for no reason, with a pic of an event that's not even taking place in the Balkans. As a Greek, I have to say most Greeks in the actual country of Greece don't claim those who are 17th generation immigrants in the USA and Australia. They are completely disconnected from the greek reality, current beliefs and generally the nation itself (despite the self-delusion they inflict upon themselves to think they 're somehow still Greek).
It means that these people are out of touch with the current reality of greece and they hold their conservative greatgrandparents backwards viewpoints and some traditions that's it.
dont think the diaspora has a stronger irredentist view than the those in Greece. Sure there is a minority that share this view, but this exists in Greece too.
The Greeks in the picture are probably Greeks from Northern Epirus or least their parents or grandparents.

Greatgrandarents!? Hahaha what are they 2 years old? You think anyone with that distant of a connection to Greece even cares (if they are old enough too)?
First of all the biggest and first greek immigration wave happened up until 1924 and yes as you can see there are teens in the picture, so they could certainly be 4th generation immigrants. They are most likely from Northern Epirus I agree. Also, the only people that share that view are few far right lutanics. About traditions and viewpoints some of them pass from older generation to the other especially in closed immigrant communities
First of all the biggest and first greek immigration wave happened up until 1924
Hmmm I dont know if any Greeks that came that eary are still holding onto any form of Greek identity and therefore hold any political view. Atleast where I live all the Greeks arrived between 1950's and early 1970's.
Also, the only people that share that view in greece are few far right lutanics.
It's not an insignificant amount though. Far right parties like Ελληνική Λύση and the new Spartans party, still get representation in Greek parliament.
It is insignificant in terms of absolute numbers and a potential offensive war. The people who voted for the party you mentioned are 4.44% of the voters who are already only \~52% of the total population. This mathematically means that the people who voted for this party are 2.3% of the total population, therefore about 235,498 people. In terms of a country, this is a pretty small group.
Now, if you take into account the demographics of this group, these are mostly old people. Do you believe that if SOMEHOW the actual governing party decided that the view of these 235K people is correct, they wouldn't know that these people are not the ones that will actually go fight? In order to have a war, you need to be able to draft people. Right now young greeks don't even want to go to their 12-month army consignment in peaceful times where they only make beds and peel potatoes. Who would actually fight?
I don't know what your point is here. I'm not saying that the irredentist view is widespread in Greece, I'm saying it forms a small minority, just like it does the diaspora. To say it doesn't exist in Greece and only exists in the diaspora is a lie. And to say it is widespread in the diaspora is also a lie.
You seem to think that every Greek in the diaspora share these views, they don't.

Do you still have an irredentist problem in spain or has it died by now. For example in northern epirus despite what they would lead you to believe there is no movement (from either side).
We don't have irredentism but we do have separatism. Separatists aren't as enthusiastic rn but they still have huge influence. Unionist parties such as PSOE (left) or PP (right) constantly concede on separatist laws that disproportionately benefit Catalonia or Basque Country in exchange for their congress votes.

I hate to break it to you, but most Northern Epirotes don’t give a shit about reintegration to Greece anymore. Maybe my mum‘s hometown of Himara might be interested, but not the villages around Himara and certainly not Vuno (which is Edi Rama‘s village in fact). Are there attempts or fringe opinions? Sure. But I, like most Northern Epirotes, am not in favour because an independence war against Albania would split entire families. Plus, the Albanian Army would have been reinforced with Italian and Turkish Army reinforcements and many Northern Epirotes would actually fight for Albania instead of the revolutionaries whereas many would fight as well. Essentially, you would see cousins, brothers and spouses who loved one another suddenly start killing each other in the name of Greece. And for what? To pay twice the amount in taxes in Greece if „liberated“? Or to actually have to engage the Albanian or Italian or Turkish Armies on our own soil? Bear in mind, back under Hoxha, most boomer and Gen X Northern Epirotes served Albania. So I can guarantee you there will be Northern Epirotes who enlist in the Albanian Army.
Most Greeks are very naive. Many lies have been said about Northern Epirus.

It's not about privilege. Sure having free time can help. But it''s about what you prioritize in life and how you think about change.
There has been an uninterrupted continuity of Greek presence in the area of modern Southern Albania since around the 25th century BC, when the Proto-Greek tribes were forming the West Proto-Greeks and the East Proto-Greeks, the former being the Proto-Abantes and Proto-Dorians, the latter the Proto-Aeolians, Proto-Ionians and Proto-Achaeans. And it seems, at least according to linguist and expert on the matter, Michael B. Sakellariou, that the Proto-Abantes would actually spread as far as today's Central Albania. I personally even speculate that the term "Abantes" and "Albanians" may be related. Now whether one might call a 45-centuries-long residence as “indigenous” or not is a different story, but if they are not, then the same applies for the Albanians, being in the area for as long a time.
You can keep exaggerating it but the reality is quite close to your exaggeration.
Im native to the balkans ,did you ever visit your relatives in Pontus??or they all settled in Epirus after 1920s??
What Ilyrian🤣🤣all those ancient civilisation were wiped out and ,only Greeks and Macedonians decided to pick those ancient names after 1500years of being called Roman 🤣🤣Im not that delulu like you
Don’t reject your identity brother ! The word Albanian comes from the Illyrian tribe , Albanoi , why are you shy to admit the glory ? 💪🏻
We are brothers 🤗
Did you know Illyrians sound like i-lyra like the Ancient Greek music instrument ? ( some Turkish nationalists might say it’s coming from the Turkish lira currency but don’t believe those lies )
It proves that Greeks and Albanians were always brothers 🇦🇱❤️🇺🇾

Greeks want to invade Albania, Macedonia and Turkey. No surprise that their fantasies of ethnic cleansing on the Turks is heavier than their European counterparts.
I didn't know it was from New York. But they have their relatives in Greece am I right? Turks in Europe visit their country every year, stay with their relatives, even vote.
American Greeks left nearly 100 years ago and have no touch with Greece , all they know about Greece is Hollywood movies and 3-4 Greek words that they throw in when speaking English
Germany is way closer and the turkish cohorts you speak about left relatively recently. Most of the Greeks who left for Australia or USA were between 1800s-1960s. They have zero actual connection to Greeks in Greece, apart from distant family members who many a time don't even know them. Very different situations.
I assure you, Greeks don't want any of that. All we want is a functional country and many of us wish the army was abolished in the general area of all the countries you mentioned so we can finally live peacefully.
If you say so... But let me notify you. Most people in Turkey recognize Greece's approchement with France and Israel as a preparation for "Something bigger" presumably something bigger against them you know...
Most people in Turkey recognize Greece's approchement with France and Israel as a preparation for "Something bigger" presumably something bigger against them you know...
That's their problem.
They can:
- see the reality (Greece doesnt want anything from Turkey),
-live in fear
-visit a shrink to resolve the fear and realize that our everyday struggles and hardships are caused by our fellow countrymen and our own government.
You 're confusing what our fucking government does to what the people want. I 'm talking about the people. I like your example of Israel because the only greeks I know who are supporting Israel are literally crazy 70 year olds with on foot in the pit of dementia.
Truly not. These guys are descendants probably of old more conservative immigrants in New York from Epirus that still hold on to these illusions. Also, nobody in greece except few far right people don't even want or imagine invading another country. And we are not the ones threatening annexation in the Aegean nowdays.

ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
Whole of Epirus belongs to Albania
pitogyros@reddit
Don’t forget the autochthonous Tehran , Rome and Munich 🦅👐👐👐🥵🥵🥵🥳🥳✊✊🐣
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
No no what really belongs to us and you know it very well ,are you from Pontus??
pitogyros@reddit
I am from Pontus , Arabia , Ethiopia and I got some distant relatives in Kabul in Afghanistan ( probably due to Alexander the Great conquest 💪🏻 )
I did a dna test and I got 0% Greek but I know that’s lie and I am 512% Greek 💪🏻 🇬🇷
And you ? Are you from neighbouring Azerbaijan? ❤️🤗
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
You can keep exaggerating it but the reality is quite close to your exaggeration. Im native to the balkans ,did you ever visit your relatives in Pontus??or they all settled in Epirus after 1920s??
pitogyros@reddit
Of course you are native Illyrian Balkaner , I see it on your username , only a true Illyrian can be thick 🍆🥵
Sadly no my relatives didn’t settle in Epirus but deep inside I wish they so maybe I could get some autochthonous Illyrian eagles in my gene pool :( 🦅
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
What Ilyrian🤣🤣all those ancient civilisation were wiped out and ,only Greeks and Macedonians decided to pick those ancient names after 1500years of being called Roman 🤣🤣Im not that delulu like you
pitogyros@reddit
Don’t reject your identity brother ! The word Albanian comes from the Illyrian tribe , Albanoi , why are you shy to admit the glory ? 💪🏻
We are brothers 🤗
Did you know Illyrians sound like i-lyra like the Ancient Greek music instrument ? ( some Turkish nationalists might say it’s coming from the Turkish lira currency but don’t believe those lies )
It proves that Greeks and Albanians were always brothers 🇦🇱❤️🇺🇾

Lol, they are ready to call themselves indigenous even right there, in USA 😂
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
Greeks want to invade Albania, Macedonia and Turkey. No surprise that their fantasies of ethnic cleansing on the Turks is heavier than their European counterparts.
pitogyros@reddit
Yes because some Greco American banner , 150% of Greeks wanna invade everyone ! 😂
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
I didn't know it was from New York. But they have their relatives in Greece am I right? Turks in Europe visit their country every year, stay with their relatives, even vote.
pitogyros@reddit
American Greeks left nearly 100 years ago and have no touch with Greece , all they know about Greece is Hollywood movies and 3-4 Greek words that they throw in when speaking English
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
Oh sorry I didn't know that. I thought it was like the Turkish community in Germany
merdeauxfraises@reddit
Germany is way closer and the turkish cohorts you speak about left relatively recently. Most of the Greeks who left for Australia or USA were between 1800s-1960s. They have zero actual connection to Greeks in Greece, apart from distant family members who many a time don't even know them. Very different situations.
pitogyros@reddit
American Greeks are same case with Australian Greeks , the only Greek communities who keep in touch with homeland is the ones in Europe
merdeauxfraises@reddit
I assure you, Greeks don't want any of that. All we want is a functional country and many of us wish the army was abolished in the general area of all the countries you mentioned so we can finally live peacefully.
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
If you say so... But let me notify you. Most people in Turkey recognize Greece's approchement with France and Israel as a preparation for "Something bigger" presumably something bigger against them you know...
SatisfactionSpecial2@reddit
Titanius_Angelsmyth@reddit
That's their problem.
They can:
- see the reality (Greece doesnt want anything from Turkey),
-live in fear
-visit a shrink to resolve the fear and realize that our everyday struggles and hardships are caused by our fellow countrymen and our own government.
Their lives, their choice!
merdeauxfraises@reddit
You 're confusing what our fucking government does to what the people want. I 'm talking about the people. I like your example of Israel because the only greeks I know who are supporting Israel are literally crazy 70 year olds with on foot in the pit of dementia.
Dependent_Guard903@reddit
Truly not. These guys are descendants probably of old more conservative immigrants in New York from Epirus that still hold on to these illusions. Also, nobody in greece except few far right people don't even want or imagine invading another country. And we are not the ones threatening annexation in the Aegean nowdays.
SatisfactionSpecial2@reddit
lol bruh
According_Tax8778@reddit
It was promised to Greeks 10 thousand years ago.
Lothronion@reddit
Who would be the Greek Abraham? Japheth?
CapitalScarcity5573@reddit

Don't worry, Greece. We can always unite and bring back the Eastern Roman Empire
JumpApprehensive9949@reddit
Indigenous Greeks= paleo Balkan = Albanians

pitogyros@reddit
It’s true , I’m from Mecca , Arabia and I pretend to be Greek , but deep inside me I know I am original ancient Albanian in soul ( true Greek ) 👐💪🏻
