Crazy how this seems to show that the EU values Ukrainian grain more than Arabic lives. And that they're perfectly happy to import goods and services from occupied Palestine but Ukraine is one step too far
kwonza@reddit
I’m more entertained how this week old news article is getting spammed on various sub non-stop.

Vite Putin out

Zelenskyy recently rekindled the fire with a few tweets last night, that could be it
SongFeisty8759@reddit
This was your only take away from this....?
GianfrancoZoey@reddit
I mean it's pretty blatant, years of genocide, occupation, and the worst crimes imaginable by Israel and the EU do nothing, but buy some stolen grain and suddenly they have an issue
It's not really saying anything we don't already know, of course blocs only really care about their own interests and there's not really anyone left pretending otherwise
ADP_God@reddit
This argument only works if you have totally one sided logic. Israel was attacked, and has faced aggression for years. It's a complex, nuanced issue, despite what this sub would prefer you to believe. Ukraine is not complex, they were also attacked. So it's easy for the EU to stand against Russian aggression, but they're not so dogmatic as to agree with the naive view that Israel is simply at war for no reason. But of course, this will be downvoted to hell because this sub has a hard on for hating Jews and has no belief that they deserve the right to self defence or self determination.

"Israel was attacked, and has faced aggression for years"
This argument only works if you pretend Israel was created on empty lands.
There were people, Israel came in, started a war, pushed the people out and is cleansing the land ever since. Israel has never just "been attacked". The very creation of Israel was a war, and to this day the people they displaced have no rights. Then people like you come and say "and if they dont say thank you, Israel will take more, and thats good". Evil shit.
Russia took control of Russian-speaking territories after people who overthrew the elected government started bombing them for not saying thank you.
stonkmarxist@reddit
Your argument only works if you ignore the ICJ ruling that Israel is in breach of the convention of racial segregation and apartheid, that the EU itself recognises the ongoing Israeli occupation as illegal, the annexation of East Jerusalem as illegal and the settlements as illegal.
None of the above is related to October 7th, all of it has been ongoing well before then, all of it has been happily ignored by the EU when it should be massively sanctioning Israel for literally all of it.
Zellgun@reddit
Antisemitism gets rightly moderated and removed in this sub. Criticising the criminal actions of Israel is not antisemitism and you know that well enough. Israel being constantly attacked has nothing to do with Judaism and everything to do with how they treat Palestinians and their neighbours but I know it’s easier to demonize people by trying to label them antisemitic
GianfrancoZoey@reddit
Conflating criticism of Israel with criticism of Jewish people is incredibly antisemitic, you should delete this immediately.
There are many wonderful Jewish people who abhor the evil that is Zionism and the violence that it necessitates. The idea that in order for Jews to be safe their needs to be an apartheid colony that murders with impunity is extremely offensive

“Don’t care about Arab lives”
Remind me how many Arab refugees / asylum seekers the EU has taken in
WallyWestJest@reddit
Remind me how many European countries partake in the US led global “security” architecture? How many of these countries have active roles in contributing to and supporting the destruction of these refugees’ home countries, and the extraction of their natural resources? How many of these European countries are a part of the same machinery that enforces the marketization of the rest of the world? How many of these European countries have and continue to directly benefit from being good obedient lapdogs to the US?
How many of these European countries are experiencing the same dilemmas of: backsliding institutions, increasing austerity measures, and inadequate population replacement?
How many of those European countries have had “Europe needs to be for Europeans” or “Foreigners must assimilate to Western ‘values’ and European ‘culture,’ rapidly become mainstream public sentiment over the last 2-3 decades? How many of these countries have also adopted hardline islamophobia, despite the fact that they don’t have significant muslim populations, refugees or otherwise? How many of these countries have adopted vitriolic attitudes towards immigration/immigrants, but still heavily rely on the very systems that create the conditions that they supposedly hate?
Europeans are no different than Americans. You create the conditions that cause the things you claim to despise, but you also refuse to self reflect regarding your role in the matter. You refuse to stop doing imperialist shit, but then cry about the consequences of your imperialist actions. You have no interest in correcting the problems that you created. you just want to stop having those problems become inconveniences to you, real or imagined.

The refugee system is not optional for countries.
Awdrgyjilpnj@reddit
Huh?
Diz7@reddit
You say that like buying the grain isn't supporting genocide in Ukraine.
Pyrric_Endeavour@reddit
Ah trust you to distract from Ukraine's concerns.
gonna-see-riverman@reddit
Ironic, Ukraine recently made it nearly illegal to criticize the holy cow (under the guise of fighting antisemitism). So.. Lock Zelenski up! Lock Zelenski up! Joking. It's not that fun when you're on the receiving end of their crimes for once, and it goes to show how dangerous such laws are.
cmrd_msr@reddit
It's manipulative to call grain grown in new territories stolen.
It was grown by the same farmers who grew it before 2022. And the same farmers who received the money for it before 2022.
It's clear that Ukraine has nothing to do with the harvest of, say, 2025.
ledankmememaster@reddit
Would you say the same if Ukraine occupied, say, an area with an oil refinery in Russia and then pumped that straight through the newly repaired pipeline to Hungary?
cmrd_msr@reddit
The refinery is occupied. The oil is stolen (if it's ours) or not stolen (if it was imported).
I'm in favor of clear and unambiguous terminology.
ledankmememaster@reddit
Say the oil rig is in that same area. By that logic there wouldn't be a fundamental difference for you between the oil rig/refinery occupied by Ukraine and the crops/farm occupied by Russia and both wouldn't be considered stolen?
In both cases you use the natural resources of the occupied land.
cmrd_msr@reddit
If it was produced under occupation, it certainly wasn't stolen.
American proxies have been pumping and selling oil in occupied Syrian territory for decades. Europe, it seems, had no ethical issues with buying it.
Pyrric_Endeavour@reddit
Well I mean Russia stole the territories.
Also we'll need a citation on the same people growing the grain.
HockeyHocki@reddit
Hold up...if Ukraine are claiming it's not just stolen territory but 'stolen grain' the onus is on them to prove the farmers have had their farms taken, not for us to disprove it.
cmrd_msr@reddit
Links to Russian press won't work here.
There are many interviews with farmers from the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. Their work is difficult, especially during military operations. The problem is well-known.
However, the government is trying to help. At a minimum, fuel is cheaper than it was before 2022. So is seed.
Ropetrick6@reddit
You mean to tell me that Israel, a right-wing, supremacist, and expansionist state that is engaging in land theft against innocent civilians, is collaborating with Russia, a right-wing, supremacist, and expansionist state that is engaging in land theft against innocent civilians? Next you're going to tell me that water makes things wet, or some other inconceivable absurdity like that!
SongFeisty8759@reddit
I guess this is where Israeli and Russian interests overlap. Russia has a vested interest in making sure the payment for the grain doesn't get to Ukraine.. Israel has a vested interest in making sure it doesn't get to Palestinians. Both of them entirely failing in not being arseholes for just a few days.
