1440p Dlss Quality vs 4k perf/ultra perf

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade from a good 1440p va panel to 4k oled. I already have a 4k oled tv which I rarely use for gaming since it's too far from my bed and ui/text becomes small.
I'm wondering if the upgrade is worth it since my 5070 will prolly be only able to run 4k on pref/ultra perf. Does anyone who has both 1440p and 4k know which looks better in this case? I'm not looking to upgrade my graphic card, only my monitor

I use a 5070 with a 4K monitor. Most games I can run at 4K with DLSS and FGx2. The rare game I’ll drop to 1440p native or DLSS.

dlss performance on a 4k screen will look better

It will, but 4k dlss performance is also substantially more demanding than 1440p dlss quality.
4k dlss ultra performance will perform about the same as 1440 dlss quality, but the dlss ultra performance mode typically has quite alot of issues.

It ultimately boils down to render resolution. DLSS is pretty fantastic across the board, but the more actually rendered pixels it has to work with, the better it's always going to be. 4K Performance is a higher render resolution than 1440p Quality, even if only slightly. Ultra Performance would be a bit lower.

Try dldsr 4k on a 1440p. It's a good option to have. I play arc raiders and cyberpunk that way

I would honestly go with 1440, though not necessarily because of how it would look.
I’d be more concerned with headroom. At 1440p, you’d have room to lower DLSS quality to hit your preferred targets before having to lower graphics settings, but at 4K you’d already be as low as you can go with no leeway.

1440p native not max settings.

Come on, this is not a good trade. Foregoing DLSS quality is troll.

Why not DLSS balanced? DLSS balanced is a great trade off for 1440p when in a pinch. Why the swing from two extremes?

I can only help you so much by sharing my experience. I upgraded from a 32" 1440p IPS to a 32" 4K OLED using my 3070ti. Currently im playing KCD2 on Medium/High settings with dlss performance and it looks so good. So much better than 1440p quality (on a 32") in my eyes. I'm hitting 60fps stable (even in the most populated city) and i could push some more fps by lowering settings even more, but i like my lighting, shadows and textures on high.
I'm now considering upgrading to a 5070 to take advantage of newer DLSS + Frame Gen since i only play single player games.
