Importing an e bike from China

Hey everyone, I am seeking advice from anyone who has imported an e-bike directly from China. What sites did you use, and how was your experience?
I have come across platforms like Alibaba, AliExpress, and even some direct manufacturer websites, but I am not sure which is the safest or most reliable option, especially for a single purchase.
If you have done this before, was it worth it, and what should I watch out for in terms of quality, shipping, or scams?
Any guidance or lessons learned would really help. Thanks!

Hello! I locate in Wuxi China, a city with very mature ebike industry. Personally I have worked in auto parts industry around 20 years but now thinking to startup some buz in ebike area. If you have common opinion or interest pls further contact me

Sure

Mostly, Alibaba normally favors bulk orders, so it’s less ideal for single e-bike purchases. On the other hand, AliExpress or verified manufacturer sites may be safer for single items. Always check reviews, warranty terms, and shipping clarity to avoid quality or customs issues.

Thanks,, I'll check on AliExpress

i purchase items on aliexpress all the time, takes longer than amazon but often times a lot cheaper. quality same as amazon as it's the same items. returns are none existent they either refund you money and let you keep the money or they ghost you and you have to go through aliexpress arbitrator.

Thankfully, I've never had to do a return with AliExpress. And I never order things from AliExpress that Amazon has because of exactly what you say...shipping time. The Amazon items are usually higher cost, but not that much higher.

here is an example. i bought this router on aliexpress for $120 after coupon, when same router sells on amazon for $180. another thing i don't like about aliexpress is a million emails with order tracking, literally each new location you get an email. so from order till arrival i'll have about 20 emails for same item.

Yeah, they always have Time delay but unfortunately they will deliver at a cheaper price

Yeah AliExpress emails the hell outta ya. Temu does it too, but not with tracking. I think you can shut it off, but I never bothered to. It isn't something that really bothers me all that much. I am well aware of how to use the 'delete' button.
As to the router (or anything else), put it in your Amazon 'saved for later' list and often you'll get a price reduction from time to time.

But the good thing with them is that most times they do deliver

A good company that one,, I'm sure they do deliver

1 hour ago, at the time of writing this, someone posted "Local shops won’t work on my e-bike" - about a bike bought on Amazon, but they're unable to find someone to work on the bike. All the local bike shops refuse to work on a simple thing like changing a tire.
Importing a bike directly from China will give you the same problems. If you are prepared to fix the bike yourself, fine. If not - buy from a brand that is supported in your area.

For me I'm glad we have a nearby workshop that fix them perfectly with less fees

Are you confident in your own abilities to maintain and repair the bike? You'll be your own mechanic, but if you're a gearhead and monkeywrencher already, or willing to learn home e-bike repair without running the risk of lost income while the bike is down (such as if you use the bike for commuting to work or for gig work), that should be ok.

I have used AliExpress to import items from China before with no problems. Shipping is quite slow however. But that was expected. I have not imported an ebike however.

It seems better if you're items really reached to your destination

Depending on where you are located, why would you do this? If you are in North America it will take 6+ weeks to get it and if there is anything wrong, another 6 weeks for parts. If it breaks where will you get it fixed? Are the batteries genuine and high quality? You can do it but it is risky, just be prepared for the worst case scenario.
